Trump to meet with sponsor of Arizona 'birther bill'

Trump has even less of a chance to get the GOP nomination than does Palin, or Huckabee,
or even Fred Thompson, and he ain't running....
There just aren't enough republicans ignorant enouth to vote in a sure loser.
The world watched with amusement as we elected GWB, they won't stand around laughing while we make the same mistake again. They learned that it isn't funny when a clown gets promoted to ringmaster....

Wong Kim Ark was found to be a citizen, not a natural born citizen in it's ruling.
The relevant part of that ruling to our discussion is that the Supreme Court recognized the lack of a legal definition for the term, natural born citizen." It clarified that, "some authorities go further, and include as citizens children born within the jurisdiction, without reference to the citizenship of their parents. As to this class, there have been doubts..." The court also pointed out that U.S. v Kim Wong Ark was not going to define it, "For the purposes of this case, it is not necessary to solve these doubts."

The term has never been defined. But we've now how two presidents without two U.S. citizen parents. The precedent has defined the term.

The reason natural born citizen was added to the presidential clause is because the founders wanted their future presidents to have sole allegiance for the US and no allegiances to other countries. The only exceptions were the first few presidents who were grandfathered in. Natural Born Citizen was a higher level of citizenship, born to two U.S. parents was the founders intent.
You're right when you say "natural born citizen" is a "higher level of citizenship" than the first few presidents -- that doesn't mean it's a "higher level of citizenship" because it requires two U.S. citizen parents, it's higher because the first few presidents were naturalized Americans and the Founders wanted the president to be born in the U.S. At the time of the first few elections, there were no natural born U.S. citizens over the age of 34.

or even Fred Thompson, and he ain't running....
....

Not to derail the thread here but whatever happened to Fred Thompson? At one point he was going to be the Republican's Golden Boy then he just kind of vanished.

I did like the photo sessions of Fred and his lovely younger wife though. She looked like she had a great personality.

I tell you what happened to Fred Thompson. He was in the TV program "The Good Wife" the other night. Amazing, how much Reps/cons badmouth Hollywood, but are so quick to accept them when they represent them (Reagan, Thompson) - even Palin, she sure didn't mind her daughter "Dancing with the Stars" - kinda hypocritical if you ask me.

Why??? just because you say so???? :lamo What a joke! :lamo

because Trump has way too much baggage.....his words will be used to taunt him, and deservedly so.
I hope he does run. It may well be the funniest part of politics ever.

Let's see... a businessman will never be president, but a guy who sat in front of a racist for 20-years, and hung with terrorists, and is a business and economic illiterate is presidential caliber? Oi.

Trump has played this brilliantly, smashing his fist down the throats of the press for failing to do their job. It's a question that should be asked. Obama should prove he is born here... Hell... even Chris Matthews has asked repeatedly.

And Trump would squash Obama like a bug. Trump has an idea of how the world and business works. Obama? He's a proven incompetent with no experience in the real world... unless... ROTFLOL... running a little rag at Harvard qualifies.

.

Whereas Trump's experience consists of running business after business into the ground. Honestly, if forced to choose, I'd go with the unproven as opposed to the proven failure.

Because, fortunately, the extremists who go for Palin/Trump are fewer than the other Republicans, who have already suffered enough shame with the likes of GW Bush to be fooled into picking someone because they are a celebrity!

Governor Brewer vetoed the bill:

"I never imagined being presented with a bill that could require candidates for President of the greatest and most powerful nation on earth to submit their 'early baptismal or circumcision certificates' among other records to the Arizona Secretary of State," the governor wrote in a letter addressed to the Arizona House speaker.

Vetoed 'birther bill' prompts talk of GOP divide - CNN.com

Good to see that there are some members of the GOP who recognize that "birthers" are but an insane fringe element of their party, and that they are trying to distance themselves from them.

Trump has lied so many times, it is hard to keep track. So far as Obama is concerned, it would be foolish to ask anyone to prove that he was born in a certain place, The only way you know that is from your parents testimonials. My child was born when we were on an overseas assignment, and brought we brought her back when she was one month old, the only reason that she knows she was born in and overseas location is because we told her so. So, accusing anyone about deceit in regard to his birthplace is plain stupid.

That is probably the most sound statement in this whole thread!

Surely you had to get a birth certificate. We had to for our daughter born in Italy when I was in the Army, and she was still advised to get a certificate of citizenship.

Because the American voters will not vote for someone with a New Yooork personality. Rude, abrasive, bombastic, blowhard, self serving, boorish, yada, yada, yada.

You can't be born a natural born U.S. citizen if your birth status was governed by the British Nationality Act of 1948. He was not born with sole allegiance to the U.S. as the founders intended their president to be.

Read INA law of 1952 and current INA law on the matter. I'll just give you the short skinny...

He is eligible to be President of the United States because he never swore an oath to neither the British crown nor it's Kenya colony. Moreover, Kenya ceased being a British colony somewhere around 1984. Still further, our own INA law specifically states that the only way a U.S. citizen loses his U.S. citizenship is if he/she does something of his/her own accord to lose it.

If you're born here to atleast one U.S. citizen parent, you are a native (natural born) citizen of this land according to INA law.

I understand what you are saying and you are right. Birth certificate does not tell everything. I was born on an island in the Danube where my parents worked for one of the royals, but my birth certificate shows birth place as the village 40 miles away where my parents lived, and the only reason that I know that I was born on that island is because my parents told me so.
