Media Matters to launch campaign of "guerrilla warfare and sabotage" against Fox News

Re: Media Matters to launch campaign of "guerrilla warfare and sabotage" against Fox

Guess what? That's one person.

Please tell me, how the hell does one person suddenly represent all liberals?

Senator Rockefeller (D) Wants FCC To Stop FOX News

Sharpton Wants FCC To Ban Limbaugh

Joe Biden, FOX, MSNBC, and the Impulse to Censorship

Liberal Groups Lobby FCC To Police Talk Radio, Cable News

and i shudder to think what would happen if i went searching for Democrats missing the days of the "Fairness" Doctrine.

Re: Media Matters to launch campaign of "guerrilla warfare and sabotage" against Fox

Eox News is a tough nut to crack. They don't seem to have ever lied about anything or failed to retract anything they were wrong about.

I suppose we'll discover that when Liberals come out in defense of Fox News and their right to free speech. So far the support seems to be thin.

Re: Media Matters to launch campaign of "guerrilla warfare and sabotage" against Fox

Are conservatives trying to "shut down" liberals? You serious? ACORN? You telling me that wasn't shut down because of it's campaign to get people voting for Obama? Have you even begun to read the attacks against NPR? That's quite a hilarious statement you made there.

The day conservatives aren't attacking liberals is the day that conservatism or liberalism dies.

---

*Edit to add:

And the fact that you associate Fox News with conservatism is also sad. Why would you want to associate with such an unethical entity?

*Edited to add again:

Also, your link says "law professor", not liberal. Someone thinks the obvious, that Fox News is misleading, useless garbage that airs programs that are labeled as "news" is misleading and that makes him liberal? My guess is he has a brain... if that makes him liberal we'll take him.

The difference is that the groups you mentioned were receiving public money. If they are not taxpayer subsidized no one really cares.

Re: Media Matters to launch campaign of "guerrilla warfare and sabotage" against Fox

This is not a war on free press and speech. Each news org is using their freedom of press and speech.

The United States Constitution can be read here, I suggest you read it ASAP because it seems that you desperately need to.

But it is a war on free speech and not a war of ideas and opinions.

That was made clear in their statement.

"Media Matters, Brock said, is assembling opposition research files not only on Fox’s top executives but on a series of midlevel officials. It has hired an activist who has led a successful campaign to press advertisers to avoid Glenn Beck’s show. The group is assembling a legal team to help people who have clashed with Fox to file lawsuits for defamation, invasion of privacy or other causes. And it has hired two experienced reporters, Joe Strupp and Alexander Zaitchik, to dig into Fox’s operation to help assemble a book on the network, due out in 2012 from Vintage/Anchor. (In the interest of full disclosure, Media Matters last month also issued a report criticizing “Fox and Friends” co-host Steve Doocy’s criticism of this reporter’s blog.)

This is quite clearly a vendetta and designed to tie up Fox News and their staff in the courts. The Left, as their history indicates, has always supported censorship and the restriction of ideas and have justified it through a variety of explanations and rationalizations. This is just another sad example.

Every clear thinking American should not let this stand. Once one set of opinions becomes verboten, yours will probably be next.

Eox News is a tough nut to crack. They don't seem to have ever lied about anything or failed to retract anything they were wrong about.

Which part of Fox News are you referring to?

One of their commentators or newscasters?

Re: Media Matters to launch campaign of "guerrilla warfare and sabotage" against Fox

Attack on the free press? I dont consider Fox News part of the free press. To be a free press, the for one should not have a political agenda that they constantly push openly while claiming the opposite. Fox News is the mouth piece of the GOP pure and simple.

Attack on freedom of speech? Well sadly in the US "freedom of speech" also means freedom of responsibility for spreading lies and miss-information. It use to be that media out-lets that were considered serious, were called on their lax reporting. Now days, Fox News gets away with pretty much anything.. may it be the anti-education attacks their anchors make or the out right crazy conspiracy crap they pull. Nancy Grace not believing Fox News own weather man that the radiation coming from Japan was minimal on the west coast of the US.... really takes the top spot for me at the moment.. what an idiot of a woman. But sadly it is not the only example of their anchors with college degrees playing people with no high school education.

Sorry but Fox News dug this hole they are in, and the fact that Media Matters has the balls to call them (and other media outlets too) on their miss-information, lies and propaganda should be applauded rather than scowled on. Someone has to keep the media in check, especially the serial liars and propaganda stations.
:lamo:lamo:lamo:lamo
Nancy Grace is on HLN not Fox. Are you another one who bashes Fox without even watching it? Do you get all your info from Media Matters and Huffpo? They are just 2 orgs. who are being paid by George Soros to try and take FOX down.
Aren't you the least bit curious about what all the fuss is? Try watching and form your own opinion instead of taking someone elses word for it.

I don't think he was being sarcastic. :)

He really doesn't have a clue, Barb.

Earlier on another thread he was equally critical of Fox News but when asked for specific name he couldn't respond. All he he knows is that Fox News is the enemy and must be silenced.

He trusts the BBC.

Actually journolist had over 400 members, or maybe it was 700. All liberals and most of them journalists or involved in the media somehow.

Their are many opinions being broadcast all day on Fox News and from a variety of sources yet the complaint is always against the generic "Fox News". So far it seems, according to that web site cited earlier, it is Steve Doucey who is the biggest threat at Fox. Do any of these people ever get specific about what bothers them?

Are you saying BBC trashes Fox too?

I really don't understand people wanting to silence fox. It's the only channel that is conservative. Do they really want to be spoonfed the news from one side of the aisle? What would come next? News that only gets aired after the approval of the WH? News that does not hold our government accountable. I thought that was what free press was about. Not news media that carries the water for Washington.

Apparently the BBC didn't want Fox News in the UK at one time but later said they did.

The BBC is also notoriously anti American and there are many web sites dedicated to BBC Bias. The BBC is the British equivalent of NPR.

I have come out in defense of Fox News right to free speech, Glenn Beck's right to free speech and against silencing conservatives.

Re: Media Matters to launch campaign of "guerrilla warfare and sabotage" against Fox

They should be investigated by the IRS and have their status stripped at a bare minimum. I don't mind them being activists, but not behind the non-veil-veil of a 501c3.

Exemption Requirements - Section 501(c)(3) Organizations

To be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, an organization must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3), and none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual. In addition, it may not be an action organization, i.e., it may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.

Organizations described in section 501(c)(3) are commonly referred to as charitable organizations. Organizations described in section 501(c)(3), other than testing for public safety organizations, are eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions in accordance with Code section 170.

The organization must not be organized or operated for the benefit of private interests, and no part of a section 501(c)(3) organization's net earnings may inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual. If the organization engages in an excess benefit transaction with a person having substantial influence over the organization, an excise tax may be imposed on the person and any organization managers agreeing to the transaction.

Section 501(c)(3) organizations are restricted in how much political and legislative (lobbying) activities they may conduct. For a detailed discussion, see Political and Lobbying Activities. For more information about lobbying activities by charities, see the article Lobbying Issues; for more information about political activities of charities, see the FY-2002 CPE topic Election Year Issues.

Smells of desperation.

It also smells of King George Soros, the first.

actually, as measured by his sourcing, he trusts media matters to give him the straight scoop :).

Re: Media Matters to launch campaign of "guerrilla warfare and sabotage" against Fox

It seems interesting to me that nobody ever seems to be able to point to specific incidents of Fox News lying. They do seem very willing to apologize when wrong. Just tell me what they lied about.

You're forgetting the second rule of PR: never actually, factually lie. Convince people of a total untruth, that's fine. Factual lies destroy credibility. The subject audience need merely believe it true for the contract to be considered executed.

Zackly. And I have no problem with people squawking about Schumers "extreme" comment.

I don't like all this messaging crap.

Annnnd, where in the 1st Amendment does it stipulate that?

It's a damn good thing for CNN and MSNBC that that is the case.

So we agree there's a problem.

Now lets get together and demand more truth in News!

Ok, sure. Don't watch the ****ing channel if you don't like it! I hope you're not one those guys that buys into crap like Rolling Stone's article about the killings in Afghanistan.

I also think we should demand that charitable organizations who skip out on billions in taxes every year, because of their tax exempt status lose that status, if they engage in partisan political activity. Whatcha' think?

Why are you so upset about the American people demanding more truth from their news outlets?

Does the truth frighten you for some reason?

Why do you assume I'm talking about any particular outlet?

Hmmm?
