Glenn Beck: Japan Earthquake Might Be A 'Message' From God (AUDIO)

You and Glenn Beck are both welcomed to have stupid beliefs. Don't expect us to not make fun of the fact that you clearly have no idea what a tectonic plate is or how they work. I call the beliefs stupid because they're uneducated. They're mythological explanations for real scientifically explainable events. Earthquakes happen today for the same reason they happened 6 thousand years and 500 millions years ago. They don't happen because fairies are angry at you. They don't happen because Zeus wants to smite us. They happen for the reason reasons they've been happening before human beings were even on this planet. When you hide behind religion to defend your own stupidity you look mighty dishonest in the eyes of those you're defending yourself against. Being religious is no excuse for being a ****ing moron.

You are entitled to your opinion, but not the name calling. You have no right to ridicule people for their beliefs and, depending on the situation, can be held criminally liable for what you say. If you don't want to believe in a deity, that's fine with me. While I disagree, I'm not going to call you a **** moron or stupid. But, that's the difference between conservatism and liberalism. Conservatism seeks to bestow freedom while liberalism seeks to force conformity. Conservatism seeks to educate and convince, liberalism (and you) seek to force compliance through ridicule or legislation. We've chosen our sides and I like where I stand.

What turned me off permanently was when he dressed up like Moses. That did it for me. No more Beck, ever again. He's under-educated, hopelessly goofy and fringe, big time.

You have no right to ridicule people for their beliefs ...

Stupid ideas should be called stupid ideas. Maybe it shouldn't be put as forcefully as Hatuey did, but I'd rather people be more blunt about stuff than allow people to walk around and say stuff like "God was behind 9/11 because we don't have morals" and then not be able to call their ideas what they are.

Also, your holier than thou crap (while trying to act modest) is sickening. Your definitions of conservatism and liberalism are laughable. You essentially ridicule liberalism while complaining about others ridiculing beliefs.

From what I've seen, both sides use conformity to adopt their own agendas. You simply believe conservatives bestow freedom because they push your values.

If someone's beliefs are stupid, you have every right to ridicule them for it. Keep them to yourself if you don't want people to criticize them. When Beck puts his values on TV, he should know he's going to get criticized when he says stupid ****.

He dressed up like Moses?

liblady, are you a Christian?

He dressed up like Moses?

I presume. Dunno for sure. Turned on the tube and saw him wearing a robe, holding a staff, jabbering on about being a truth-teller, and instantly changed the channel. The guy is Doofus Six, in my book.

You are entitled to your opinion,

It's not an opinion. It's a fact. Earthquakes have a scientific explanation behind them.

but not the name calling. You have no right to ridicule people for their beliefs

Of course I do. It's called the first amendment.

and, depending on the situation, can be held criminally liable for what you say.

Really? Under which situation can you be held criminally liable for calling somebody a complete idiot?

If you don't want to believe in a deity, that's fine with me. While I disagree, I'm not going to call you a **** moron or stupid.

I'm not calling you or Beck morons because you believe in a diety. I'm calling Beck a moron for suggesting that earthquakes are a manifestation of your diety when in reality there is a logical explanation behind them and no need for a faith based one.

But, that's the difference between conservatism and liberalism. Conservatism seeks to bestow freedom while liberalism seeks to force conformity. If you believe that an ideology which supports legislation against gay marriage, faith based initiatives and promotes academic ignorance is seeking to educate and 'bestow freedom' you're much worse than Glenn Beck is. Why don't you do us both a favor, I'll prove to you that my opinion on why the earthquake happen is not an opinion but a fact, and you show me that your beliefs about why the earthquake happened are actually supported by any kind of evidence. Deal?

When was this?

EDIT: Nevermind. I found it.

If you don't really know what he was dressed as and you don't really know why or what he was talking about, how did you come to the conclusion to never watch him? You're against people being dramatic or what? You'd rather him just sit and talk like other hosts?

P.S. He wasn't dressed as Moses, but as YODA. LOL!

Well let's compare. I'm a registered republican. I believe that Obama was born in Hawaii. I know that he was raised in Indonesia, by his step father and mother, but we sent to live with this maternal grandparents around the age of 10, who also lived in Hawaii. I know that his father was from Kenya. I know that Obama is, according to family a third generation muslim (by birth) according to his Aunt Sarah an I quote "And I quote "There's three generations of Muslims in the family,"Auntie Sarah interjected, from the kitchen. She wiped her hand and came over to join us. "The religion of your birth is Islam, George, because that is the religion of your father's side of the family. You know, you're a third-generation Muslim in our eyes."

Page 107 ~ Homeland by George Hussein Obama
......................

Anything else?

I wouldn't say Obama is a first, second, third, or whatever generation Muslim... You are either Muslim or you are not... You're either Christian or you are not. You are never a first, second, third, etc. Christian...

Where did anyone call the ideas stupid? I'm pretty sure everyone jumped straight on the "He's stupid" band wagon.

Also, your holier than thou crap (while trying to act modest) is sickening. Your definitions of conservatism and liberalism are laughable. You essentially ridicule liberalism while complaining about others ridiculing beliefs.

That post wasn't intended to portray a holier than though sentiment. Rather, I was trying to convey that the proper decorum is more appropriate to the debate.

I know people who live in Japan and thankfully they are safe along with his dad and guess what their are some Christians that live in Japan as well as Buddhist, people who follow Shinto and other religions. They also gave us Martial arts, manga/Anime, and they are the most awesome people that I know its people like the fundamentalist Christians that make me hate Christians thought not all of you are that bad to people who disagrees with you.

Why do people blame god just because Japan is on a fault line? Its just how the earth moved to were it was know thank you very much and I hate how most people think this is Karma for Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor for shame on people who seem to forget the atom bomb that we drop on Hiroshima, and Nagasaki. Actually learn something about history other than stupid talking points and the Holocaust never happen talking points.

Also I somehow born an Christian even thought I am an atheist? o_O

Maybe we should make all the fundie Christians live on the fault lines... then they can believe they are being punished by God every time a quakes hits...

The people making disparaging comments about the man ought to feel ashamed of themselves. Glenn Beck has had a rough life and slowly gone insane over the years. Shame on FOX NEWS for profiting off of mental illness, and shame on the people railing against him for treating him like a neurotypical individual. This man needs help, and when FOX allows him to wallow in his paranoid delusions it only allows his condition to degenerate.

At least he is making money...

If you believe that an ideology which supports legislation against gay marriage, faith based initiatives and promotes academic ignorance is seeking to educate and 'bestow freedom' you're much worse than Glenn Beck is.

Now we are getting into more issues than just religion...but the down and dirty is this: Many conservatives wish to end the government's recognition of marriage all together. This would end the long standing violations of the First Amendment created by regulating the religous ceremony/institution. I'd like to hear how faith based initiatives don't promote freedom and I wonder how you get that conservatives promote acadmeic ignorance when it is democrats that control the worst school districts in America.

Why don't you do us both a favor, I'll prove to you that my opinion on why the earthquake happen is not an opinion but a fact, and you show me that your beliefs about why the earthquake happened are actually supported by any kind of evidence. Deal?

I don't think you get how God made the world. The existence of a scientific explanation does not preclude the existence of God. You can't win the argument, in my mind, because God created the heavens, earth AND SCIENCE. Just because it happened and we could predict it doesn't mean it wasn't set forth by God (knowing what would transpire) years, decades, centuries or millennia ago.

I'd say the reason the Japanese are calm compared to those in Katrina and Haiti is because they're prepared, they know they live on a fault line, and they know they're at risk of tsunamis, so they have plans, the government has plans, and every one is more-or-less as prepared as you can get.

Absolutely. I am so impressed by the way the population has stepped up during this catastrophe. They're calm, stoic in the face of great loss, work urgently to help each other, and I haven't seen a single person running down the street with a flat-screen tv. They work together like a well-oiled machine. I admire the hell out of them.

Don't really understand why saying it "might" be a message from God
is all that controversial. Typical Huffington Post crapola. Trying to make something out of nothing.

It "might" be lots of things. Evil space monkies "might" have done it. The thing is, we know what did it.

P.S. He wasn't dressed as Moses, but as YODA. LOL!
he's nucking futs. yoda doesn't dress like that or have a staff like that. ever.

that is why Beck fails.

You mean Yoda didn't look like a colourblind, middle-aged Gandalf?

I don't think he's crazy; he's just using crap like this to get attention.
I've often thought the same about the people who create all of these Glenn Beck threads. :)

Your facts don't contradict my beliefs.

It's the other way around. Your beliefs are trying to contradict the facts. The fact is an earthquake happens because of an articulable process occurring along the tectonic plates. Your beliefs are trying to say God made that happen.

No, you don't get off that easy. Bullying is a criminally liable offense, calling somebody an idiot is not. It's actually protected speech.

The fact that you're sitting here trying to argue that your belief in God's role in earthquakes does not contradict the facts about the causes of an earthquake is all I need to prove that Republicans and the right wing of America as a whole have an agenda to promote ignorance. You're a member of the ideology who compares pedophilia to homosexuality. You're a member of the ideology that says God created the Bible in 6 days. You're a member of the ideology who is seeking to introduce religion into the classroom. You're a member of the ideology who seeks to argue that men who owned slaves wanted to abolish slavery. Really, the answer on how the right promotes ignorance is long. Which example would you like me to discuss?
I don't think you get how God made the world.

Because your God doesn't exist. Get used to it.

The existence of a scientific explanation does not preclude the existence of God.

When you claim your God does X and then be ready to back that up. It's a claim based on the reality without any evidence supporting it.

You can't win the argument, in my mind, because God created the heavens, earth AND SCIENCE. Just because it happened and we could predict it doesn't mean it wasn't set forth by God (knowing what would transpire) years, decades, centuries or millennia ago.

Quit hiding behind your religion and your obvious ideological reshuffling. If you think God caused the earthquake, bring some evidence. Otherwise, your belief is stupid and has no more validity than saying that fairies split the fault lines and caused the earthqauke. End of story.

This post is why no one takes you seriously.

If God controls everything, how can a major natural event such as this earthquake be anything other than his doing? Some look at it as a message, others as a lesson, others as senseless...regardless of how people view the event, one thing is clear; God allowed it to happen and His reason(s) cannot be known with 100% certainty in this life.

So, is Glenn Beck right? Well, maybe...but we can't know if he's right or wrong. He is entitled to his opinion and does not deserve ridicule for his religoius beliefs.

This constant assertion that every natural disaster is somehow an expression of God's wrath is bad theology. The Bible speaks to human suffering. Its called "time and chance" in Ecclesiastes 9:11. Many good and bad things occur to people regardless of whether they are good or evil. As Jesus explained, God lets it rain on both the just and the unjust (Matthew 5:45). In fact, in Luke 13:4-5 Christ refers to a specific contemporary tragedy ". . . Those eighteen on whom the tower of Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish" (Luke 13:4-5).

The lesson of every natural disaster and human tragedy is not that the other guy sinned (he did... and so did you), its that life is short. The end will come without notice, like a "thief in the night". Remember, no one gets off this planet alive, so you best be worried more about your treasures in heaven than your 401(k).

Luke 21:34 "Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap"
