remember, you gotta be nice to public employee unions....

....cause if you're not, they'll hurt you.

yeesh. what an amazing sense of entitlement these people have; they Really Do Think that they are Owed ever-increasing benefits from the taxpayer.

State Sens. Joe Leibham and Glenn Grothman said they are among as many as 18 Republican senators who received a death threat following their votes to eliminate most collective bargaining powers for public workers...

"This is another example of the anger which is being spewed by the government unions," Grothman said. "This has been all about intimidating … Republican legislators into bowing to the public unions, and it has only steeled our resolve."

Grothman said he is hesitant to completely disregard the threat given the volatile atmosphere in Madison. A note shoved under his door Wednesday night said, "The only good Republican is a dead Republican."..

Leibham, of Sheboygan, said the threat came to him via e-mail as well, and his staff contacted police at the Capitol and in Madison.

The letter tells lawmakers to "make your peace with God as soon as possible and say goodbye to your loved ones," warning they will be killed "due to your actions in the last eight weeks."

The letter, which is signed, says the writer is working with a group of people and knows where the legislators live. It says legislators may be shot in their homes or killed with bombs placed at locations they frequent.

"We feel that you and the people that support the dictator have to die," the letter reads. "If you and your goonies feel that it's necessary to strip the rights of 300,000 people and ruin their lives, making them unable to feed, clothe, and provide the necessities to their families and themselves then We Will 'get rid of' (in which I mean kill) you."..

hey, remember when all those violent, racist tea partiers lost the fight over Obamacare, so they wrecked the capital, called for a taxpayer strike, and then started to threatening to bomb buildings full of people?

yeah. me neither.

i especially like that they are targeting them in their homes. you stay classy, there, public unions ;)

I seriously doubt these thugs even live in Wisconsin. That's the sad part. Wisconsin getting a bad name because of all the scum being bused in by the likes of Trumka.

That sounds like baseless rhetoric to me. Who are the scum, Barb????

I can't believe the politicians are surprised by this. We've all seen videos of the kind of people they were dealing with.

This is just some of that civility and "tone" we've been hearing about in Washington D.C. It must be spreading to other parts of the country now.[/sarc]

Violence against Democrats after Healthcare Bill

The House Democratic leader, Steny Hoyer of Maryland, said that at least 10 House members were concerned for their personal safety, and a number reported their offices had been vandalised...One caller to the office of Bart Stupak, a Democrat who voted for the legislation, said: "I hope you bleed ... [get] cancer and die." A fax to his office carried a picture of a gallows with "Bart (SS) Stupak" on it and a noose attached.

It happens anytime a controversial bill is passed.

Well sometimes its reported by the media.....and sometimes its a Republican or Conservative receiving the threats.....

.

But...the media reported this...yes, even the 'liberal' media reported this. We all know that Republicans are receiving death threats over this...

These people are genuinely afraid for their ability to earn a living. Is anyone really surprised by this kind of reaction? Not saying it's right or wrong... just unsurprising. People react that way when they're afraid.

how are they afraid for their ability to earn a living? this bill saves union jobs.

no, i'm sure that they were made instead by the furious CSPAN lobby that has been denied it's Wisconsin Senate Coverage the past three weeks

They're afraid for their ability to earn a living? Really? If you're right, then they're obviously way too stupid to be teaching our kids.

Who's to say the Rethugs aren't sending them to each other, so their claims of receiving threats are honest?

I think you're referring to anybody who uses money to buy influence in the government.

As for unions, while I hate the effectiveness with which they bribe elected officials -- and, for that matter, the effectiveness with which elected officials are bribed in general -- I'm angrier at state governments who negate legal binding agreements with the force of law.

What's the point of having an agreement if the other party can simply change the rules and screw you whenever it's politically expedient for them?

so i take that as a no?

That's just a smear against public employee unions. You take a threatening letter by an anonymous nutjob and assign blame to all opponents of the recent anti-union legislative action. It's just guilt by association.

Political violence is wrong and should be condemned. The letter represented a form of political violence. And, this libelous opening post represents a form of political violence. I condemn the author of the threatening letter and I condemn cpwill for his false and malicious post.

But the right wing freak show is all atwitter about a recent letter, excerpted below, which identifies the history of collective bargaining in five decades of peaceful labor relations and that Scott Walker did not run on highly constraining collective bargaining in his gubernatorial campaign and then goes on to say:

… In the event that you cannot support this effort to save collective bargaining, please be advised that the undersigned will publicly and formally boycott the goods and services provided by your company. However, if you join us, we will do everything in our power to publicly celebrate your partnership in the fight to preserve the right of public employees to be heard at the bargaining table. Wisconsin’s public employee unions serve to protect and promote equality and fairness in the workplace. We hope you will stand with us and publicly share that ideal. …

— letter, from executive Director of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association to Tom Ellis, President, Marshall & Ilsley Corporation¹

Here's a forum member's take on it.

Personally, this is a valid form of direct political advocacy. There's nothing wrong with withholding your patronage for businesses whose politics are contrary to your own. Conservative groups and liberal groups and groups in between all use the boycotts to express their displeasure with a business or public entity.

cpwill and others in the right wing freak show want to distort that legitimate, public political expression into a kind of extortion. It's just more malevolence from repeat offenders.

Hey look, they caught one of 'em.
News that the state Justice Department has identified one suspect in connection with death threats sent to Republican state senators comes as at least a minor relief to Sen. Glenn Grothman (R-West Bend).

Snip

The suspect admitted to writing two e-mails, threatening to kill Gov. Scott Walker and members of the Senate, according to a press release from the department. Grothman told Patch that he was among those who received a threat.

"The Division of Criminal Investigation takes these kind of threats seriously and will follow through with the investigation and prosecution whenever possible," DCI Administrator Ed Wall said in the release.

"I and the group of people that are working with me have decided that we've had enough," one of the threatening e-mails read. "We feel that you and your Republican dictators have to die."

The message then went on to say the "group" planned to shoot the senators, and plant bombs in various locations, such as their homes and cars.

"If you and your goonies feel that it's necessary to strip the rights of 300,000 people and ruin their lives, making them unable to feed, clothe and provide the necessities to their families and themselves then we will 'get rid of' (in which I mean kill) the eight of you," the e-mail continued. "Please understand that this does not include the heroic senator that risked everything to go aganist what you and your goonies wanted him to do."

The second message was much shorter, and stated:

"(Expletive) you, (expletive). I am formally requesting to see the 30,000 e-mails you have gotten making you comply with the open records law. I assure you that none of them are in support of you or anything that you or your staff stand for. Your staff members have now been added to the hit list as well as those of the other Senate members we have threatened. Please advise them of the impending danger leading to their deaths."
