Gov Christie suspends union members for fake calling out sick

Ths issue here is your silly attempt to justify the behavior of a petulant group of children that just happen to be Union Members.

You should pick up your flag and attempt to deal with the issues. It makes you look so much more informed.

It pretty much was, you just never realized it. When you work for the government, the government can do to you what it damn well pleases, period. Unfair? debateable. you still work for them, so they can do to you whatever they want, as far as your job is concerned. Period.

Boy are you in the dark on this one. It does not work that way. The contract mandates certain procedures and certain rights for the accused.

When I worked for a SoCal city, if an employee faked a sick day instead of asking for a personal day, I had the right to fire them on the spot. Once, I did just that. A fellow called in sick during a flood emergency, when the city's pumping stations were in danger of being closed down by inundation (no public water, yo)... and he went to a baseball game.

Fired the asshole. Filled his job within days.

Yes, public entities take employee fraud very seriously.

you know what's funny? people of all stripes play hooky everyday.

really? i don't. in fact i work for the government and if i tried that my boss could legally throw me in jail.

Really, now can you realistically tell if a person is sick or not? What kind of possible convincing evidence could they have?

they were on public television at a union rally.

Dems see it as a political ploy. Me too Reps see it the way Burry sees it.

If they are too sick to show up for work they dang well better not show up on a camera outside of thier home that same day protesting. Because if you are well enough to go outside to a protest you're damn well feeling good enough to come into work.

Just like Reagan did; break, break, break the public unions. do not let them get away with this crap.

Three union workers who called out sick to attend a labor rally at the New Jersey Statehouse last week have been suspended.

The move comes a day after Gov. Christie told NBC New York in an interview that "people who call in sick better be sick." Christie issued his warning ahead of another labor rally that drew thousands on Thursday...

The county said the workers were among 14 in the department who called out sick; officials alleged that 174 developmentally disabled adults who depend on the county's services ended up "waiting for buses that never came."

"These employees are being suspended without pay based on the fact that we have evidence to prove that they were not home sick as they had claimed," said Lillian Burry, a county official.

The union representing the workers, the Communications Workers of America(CWA) put out a statement through its District One calling this a "politically-motivated attack on public workers who perform vital services."..

State Sen. Joe Kyrillos (R-Monmouth), who first complained of a "sick-out," applauded officials for the suspension, noting some workers were "caught on camera" at last week's rally. He wants officials to keep reviewing video to see "if others were absent without proper excuse."..

Christie isn't making this as a stance or act against UNIONS

He's making it as a stand or act against people who are LYING about being out sick.

Two very different things - get your facts straight.

so he's comintmiting agreession againstthose who committ fraud

but he's going after unions members

Not much different than it was a 150 years ago when blacks were slaves to the plantation owners.

Yes, amazingly comparable...

Remember all those stories of Slaves being paid tens of thousands a year, having full medical/dental/vision insurance, a retirement plan, and accural of sick and annual leave while typically working in good working conditions for roughly 40 hours a week with two days off and where "punishment" is usually being "written up" or at most suspended from having to work for a few days rather than having your back whipped or being removed from your family?

Yep. Not much different than slaves.

For ****s sake...people sometimes boggle my mind.

really? i don't. in fact i work for the government and if i tried that my boss could legally throw me in jail.

true dat, if most of these people lived under our rules, brother, their fuzzy little heads would explode!

Yeah!!!!! Get big government out of our lives. Right. Of course now Jabba the Guv is going to want to see your stool sample if you claim to have been ill. Jabba the Guv wants to be our mommy. Cute.

Really? This is what has passed for debate? Calling the Governer fat because scumbag union workers faked a sick day?

They all should have been fired.

And all this time I thought you believed making fun of politicians by giving them amusing nicknames was clever.

Which is your way of saying that you have no contractual language of any kind to use to prove anything. You claim that these people should be disciplined but you can show no real language to demonstrate that they did anything illegal or in violation of their contract.

Typical.

No more typical of you "claiming" something illegal was done, with nothing to back it up ..

Funny, then, that 'union' issues are what made these people decide to dog out of work.

no, the governor is just going after people who would engage in criminal activity in order to exert a disproportionate amount of control over the political process

Ah, so you agree with lying and calling in sick to go party?

If they wanted to not work and attend the rally, they need to have either taken a personal day, or state that they were not coming in for personal reasons. As far as I know, that is completely acceptable. I may not like Christie, but I support this action.

I think for the benefit of those not working in the public sector you should explain what a "personal day" is.

Okay, dude. Whatever you say. While he's at it, why not make it a landslide and kick some old ladies down stairs? :2razz:

Troubador equates union workers with little old ladies? I assume that's just based on their work habits. For leisure activities they're quite fit and able.

Most people have taken sick days when they aren't sick, and usually not for anything as noble and justifiable as a union rally. It just makes Christie look like a bellicose thug badgering people who work for a living because he thinks he can get away with it.

He acted within his authority (as far as I know). That's not the same as "did nothing wrong."

You're just digging your hole deeper. So, you lie and take sick days when you're not and want to assume everyone does. Sorry, not everyone does. And attending a union rally is not noble.

The idea that a grown adult must justify time taken from the job because they have runny poop or a fever is something akin to childhood. Of course, that is exactly the type of relationship the right wing wants for workers and employers. They cannot bring back slavery or serfdom so paternalism is the next best thing.

More progressive employers have rejected the medieval "sick day" concept in favor of simply time away from work based on a contractual reward for time served on the job or a matter of an agreed upon contract clause.

Sorry, but we not talking about grown men. We're talking about adolescents who lie to take off sick leave for other activities. There were people who worked for me whom I trusted and ones I didn't trust. I wouldn't trust you at all.

Yes, I read the article. And it fails to contain the exact language in question.

Really scratching there. You've back a loser--liars and cheats aren't respected outside unions--and you're trying to save face.

You lie.

Either prove it or apologize for your lie.

I wont hold my breath.

You want to hold your breath? Its your funeral.

Does the term....... MESSIAH ...... mean anything to you?
