Well, goddamn! We need some serious knife control, now. Background checks and psycho-analysis for anyone wanting to purchase an, "assault", knife for starters. If that doesn't work, we'll need to look into a much broader knife regulation, or even knife ban.

The knife-wielding madman who killed four people during a day-long rampage of stabbings, carjackings and hit-and-runs was nabbed in Times Square moments after he knifed a straphanger.

"They had to die," Maksim Gelman, 23, confessed after being tackled by two transit cops and an off-duty detective about 9 a.m. yesterday, sources said.

Obviously. I mean, he killed almost as many people as the Arizona guy, so obviously we need knife control.

After all, no one really NEEDS a knife with more than 3" blade do they? And if they can't PROVE they need a 4" knife and a 3" won't do, well that's their problem.

(/irony).

OOPS... you know, I think it is already illegal to carry a big knife in NYC...

Gawk, sometimes news is just news, you know? It doesn't have to be a stepping-stone to promote a polical agenda.

The mere fact that it's possible to kill several people with a knife doesn't make it comparable to a purposely-designed weapon of modern warfare. Your sarcasm is ludicrous - you might as well ridicule attempts to control nuclear warheads by talking about children blowing off their fingers with illegal fireworks.

Yes, but fourteen other people were injured in that shooting, including Rep. Giffords. It could have just as easily been 20 fatalities as 6 dead and 14 wounded. These are weapons of modern warfare specifically designed to kill large numbers of people. The gun lobby needs to get real and show some respect for the intelligence of the American people - your toys are not worth other people's lives, so start dealing honestly with folks who want assurances that they're not going to be facing a bunch of psychos armed to the teeth just so NRA members can play Rambo on the weekends. Come up with ideas for how to resolve differences on the issue, don't just pretend like whatever you feel like is 100% how it must be and everyone else should just shut up. You have a right to a gun, and everyone else has a right not to have their communities turn into Baghdad just so Ted Nugent can get his jollies. Work with people to reconcile conflicting rights and they will all be secure.

Too bad his stepdad didn't have a gun handy. No one dead except the bad guy.

Or if the bad guy had a gun, "Too bad his stepdad didn't have a gun and was faster on the draw." If the bad guy had a vest, "Too bad his stepdad didn't have a gun, was faster on the draw, and had armor-piercing rounds." If the bad guy had a gatling gun, "Too bad his stepdad didn't have a grenade launcher." Here's a radical idea from way out in the blue - how about instead of pursuing Mutually Assured Destruction in our communities, we exercise common sense? I mean, if you're willing to concede that you're not going to be targeted by Terminators any time soon, and really have no legitimate use for an AK-47. Maybe that's a tad saner than militarizing everyday life just so some antisocial paranoids can play toy soldier in the Michigan wilderness.

Or that subway guy who tackled him. The hoplophobes ignored my thread. this one wont get much play either.

Hoplophobe: irrational fear of firearms.

I think a fear of firearms is about the most rational fear you could have.
