MSNBC mocks Obama and his ever present teleprompter

what is this fasination with teleprompters? Public speakers all use suh divices. From note cards to written speeches, none of this is new.

The real question is, who writes the majority of his speeches? If I'm not mistaken, I believe Reagan did write a very significant portion, if not the majority, of his own speeches. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Yes, in fact, his speech writers begged and pleaded with him to take the phrase "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!" out of his speech, and he refused. He was known to change their speeches so much you couldn't recognize them when he was done.

You are wrong. Reagan only wrote a few of his speeches.

Yes. Every president gives the ideas they want to get across but their writers make it sound good.

I can't find much data to prove either way. All I found was that Nixon wrote 19 out of 20 that were his own personal speeches (discounting oval office, joint-session of congress, and S.O.U. speeches). JFK also wrote many of his own speeches.

I don't doubt Clinton wrote many of his own speeches, but he still had a speechwriter. Reagan and Clinton seemed to have a primary, singular speechwriter that did most of the work. Most of the others had multiple speechwriters. George W. Bush had the most (something like 5 or 6).

I'm very sure that Reagan wrote many of his own speeches. How much? I have no idea. And I'm having trouble locating reliable information.

Reagan didn't write his most famous speech.
"Tear Down this Wall" (Speech Writer Peter Robinson Remembers Reagan's Historic Address)
He didn't write most of his speeches. He had a large staff of speechwriters working for him.

I don't think that really proves anything. I'm not asserting that Reagan wrote speeches without editorial advice. I'm saying that I'm sure he wrote the majority of the content of many of his speeches. Perhaps not the majority but a significant amount. I just can't find any hard data that proves either way.

Reagan was no different than any other president. They all used speechwriters, except maybe Lincoln.

Perhaps. I can't say I know. But, all of them used speech writers to some degree. But, what exact claim are you making (he reads someone's else's ideas, handled so to speak) and do you have any evidence to support that claim?

There is a difference between a speechwriter and an editor. I don't like to repeat myself, so I won't. But I've already responded to your argument. See previous post.

Like I said, I looked but can't find any evidence that proves my or my opponent's argument. And as I said earlier, there's a difference between a speechwriter and an editor, and I never said Reagan had no speechwriters.
