MSNBC mocks Obama and his ever present teleprompter

So what are you trying to say now? Reagan used editors more than speechwriters?

I'll say it again, just to indulge you. I said that I am sure Reagan wrote the majority of the content of a significant portion of his speeches. Do I believe he wrote all of his speeches? No. Do I believe he wrote the majority of his speeches? No. Do I believe he wrote his speeches without the help of speechwriters and/or editors? No. I believe he wrote the majority of the content of a significant number of his speeches. I've looked for evidence to prove my claim and I could not find anything. Therefore, it will remain a guess based on faith until any such related evidence is found.

Just like every other president. So what is your point?

Like I said, it's hard to find reliable data to prove either way. We're just making assertions based on pure faith. It is easy to assume that Reagan did write the majority of the content of a significant number of his speeches. I don't believe we can say the same for every president, especially if we consider G.W.

Heavens to Murgatroyd, I bet you guys would face each other and argue about whether the sun came up on your right side or your left.

I'm not arguing about anything. Just stating the facts and trying to figure out what he is getting at..

Have you seen 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader'? Those kids are pretty swift. Imagine the tough questions 6th graders would ask!;)

You know it. I was substituting an elementary class once and the the book was using a different math system in which the name escapes me at the moment. The kids at first don't learn how to solve the problems but why numbers work they way they do. Anyway I was a little stumped and one little girl spoke up and said, "Mr. ***** you don't do this very often do you? :3oops:

The real question is, who writes the majority of his speeches? If I'm not mistaken, I believe Reagan did write a very significant portion, if not the majority, of his own speeches. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Obama does a lot of his own writing. I'd be surprised if Reagan did but could be wrong.

Presidents create an outline of what they want to say. They submit sentences, slogans and talking points they want incorporated in the speech. The speechwriters put it all together, polish it and make it all sound nice. I doubt if any president has written an entire speech word for word since Lincoln.

That's true but I still read somewhere he does a lot of his own writing compared to other presidents.

Why would partisan hacks be concerned with the truth? It only gets in the way of their funny story.

Remember all those right wing bogus emails that were going around during the Iraq War? Ficticious military troop authors and the whole nine yards? It didn't seem to matter to the right as long as they made them feel warm and fuzzy.

I don't understand the big deal. This is what you guys are reduced to? Whining about a teleprompter?

Sorry ... they are actually mocking the far right. In other words ... yea past Presidents used index cards and some used other tech style notes. This is no different ... yet the fact of the matter is say what you will about his politics, but no one with any degree of honesty can claim with a straight face that President Obama isn't one of the most intelligent presidents of the last 5 or so decades.

The president's impromptu speaking style still engages and yes he actually takes responsibility for his own speeches. Agree or disagree with his politics the latest frenzy of far right hacks and bloggers concerned about the technology of reference notes is funny at best.

Obama takes an unusually hands-on approach to his speech writing, more so than most politicians. His best writing time comes late at night when he's all alone, scribbling on yellow legal pads. He then logs these thoughts into his laptop, editing as he goes along. This is how he wrote both of his two best selling books—Dreams from My Father and The Audacity of Hope—staying up after Michelle and his two young daughters had long gone to bed, reveling in the late night quiet. For this speech Obama removed himself from the distractions at home and spent many nights in a room in the Park Hyatt Hotel in Chicago. These late-night sessions produced long, meandering texts that were then circulated to a close group of advisers, including Axelrod and Obama's speechwriter Jon Favreau—a 27-year-old wunderkind wordsmith. "When you're working with Senator Obama the main player on a speech is Senator Obama," Axelrod said. "He is the best speechwriter in the group and he knows what he wants to say and he generally says it better than anybody else would."
