Rachel Maddow Falls for Fake Story About Conservatives and Sarah Palin

Hopefully there has not nor will not be another swarm of calls for the internet to clean itself up for the sanctity of the journalist's profession....whose job it is to check on the authority of said story..... *recalls whining of mainstream media that they cannot take yet another shortcut to promote a story by using the internet*

There is a lot of good information on the internet, along with a pile of manure and a lot of irony and satire. One would think that Maddow would have figured that out by now, and check her sources before reporting a story.

"Sarah Palin led invasion into Egypt?" Why would anyone even have to check out anything so absurd to know it has to be either satire or nonsense?

Sign of the times sadly. Too many are too willing to believe just about anything. However, we should nto pay too much attention to political entertainers. They don't serve us well for the msot part.

Seriously, there's being duped, and then there's this. How could anyone fall for this? It isn't even possible.

Equally as retarded was bachmann going with the 200 million dollars a day story that a single unconfirmed source in an Indian newspaper said...

Didn't see you harping then...

now now... it was only 190 million a day... lets get our non-facts straight ;)

Well, Bachmann can say whatever she likes - right or wrong, she's protected as a member of congress from prosecution and is not bound to provide only factual information... that's the press's job and when they screw up, they should be laughed at accordinly. A politician spewing out misinformation is as common as air, grass or water.

pretty sure if you bother to read the whole thread, you'll see her Twitter retraction was mentioned... as was her lack of a retraction on her actual show.

Obviously, you didn't watch her show last night.

I watch it about as often as you watch Glenn Beck.

EDIT:

Oh, you have GOT to be ****ing kidding me PB... THIS is an retraction?

As promised, Maddow addressed the issue last night. Eventually. What she really did was couch her mea culpa in a long explanation about how politicians and now media figures like to use world events to their own advantage.

No kidding.

After a series of clips of George W. Bush and John Boehner and then Glenn Beck raging about the new Caliphate, Christwire finally came in:

"Props to them for a brilliant piece of satire, shame on us for believing them. But in a world where China taking over New Zealand [cue visual of Glenn Beck] is what passes for real analysis on the situation in Egypt how do we know that's not satire too?

Translation: Glenn Beck is so crazy, and so successful, how can I, Rachel Maddow, be expected to differentiate between him and false news stories?

Show me where the press are required to tell the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help them god?

RACHEL MADDOW: How Was I Supposed To Know The Egypt Story Was Fake When There's People Like Glenn Beck Out There
Did I say it was a retraction? No. Rachel made a mistake, there is no way around that. It was a relatively minor error in the fact it didn't hurt or smear anyone. She made it clear that the story didn't involve Sarah Palin. I noted above that Glenn Beck's The Blaze lied about that, but you have to expect that from almost anything from Glenn Beck.

What she did last night, was to show how believable the 'fake' story really was. Watch the video and watch John Bolton at about the 2:00 minute mark you'll see why.

To anyone who had below average intelligence... she also blamed her ineptitude on Beck, which I see you glossed over... most likely because you bought it hook, line and sinker.

:lamo You really should go past the snarky headline to see if that it's really true. :lamo

Tell THAT to Madcow. I watched the video, what loved is how smug she was only to be slapped down. :lamo

Do you always use schoolyard names for people you don't like?

If I can get away with it (and sometimes even if I can't). There's something about Madcow that just breeds contempt.

You're right. The proper term is "gender confused".
I think most people who watch her are initially confused about that.

I don't think it's right or appropriate to subtly bash Maddow for being a lesbian. She isn't gender confused, she's a lesbian woman. Yes she did wrong by jumping on a story that attacked Palin and conservatives. I'm not going to pretend that Maddow doesn't have anti-conservative bias or seeks to make Palin and conservatives look bad, this is what 99% of political opinion shows do. However, she did admit to her mistake. However, let's not make fun of her for being a lesbian, nor should we make fun of those who support her or watch her shows. It's not good for rational debate and discussion.

Have you not seen some of the stuff written here about Rush and Glenn Beck?

Yes, yes I have. But how is that relevant. Is the partisan hatred of others a justifying force to do the same?

I think she may be gender confused. I didn't know for a fact (are you saying that's a fact?) that she's a lesbian, but that's not really relevant nor is her gender confusion. My apologies.

Well she did seem to on twitter but not on her show. She actually blamed it on Beck.

Not sure what you're refering to, but it wouldn't matter if true. Inappropriate is inappropriate regardless.

You know what, it is relevant. I see far more bashing of Beck, Rush and Palin than I do any liberal media figure.

Sorry, you're not one that has any cred to be admonishing me about this.

may I direct your limited attention span to this, previously posted, segment...
