EPA shuts down one of the largest Coal Mines in U.S.

Obama's plan to force people to quit using energy by making resources scarce is well underway.

Or was it a bone head move by Arch Coal?

Permanent and temporary stream burial could have been cut from 8.3 miles to about 3.4 miles under one alternative mining plan developed for EPA by engineer John Morgan of the Lexington, Ky.-based firm Morgan Worldwide.

The alternative mining plan would have raised production costs for Arch subsidiary Mingo Logan Coal Co. by 55 cents per ton, about 1 percent of the expected per-ton sales price, according to the report obtained under the federal Freedom of Information Act.

Spruce Mine could have reduced impacts, report says  - News - The Charleston Gazette - West Virginia News and Sports -

Environmentalism kills jobs. Leftists must choose between environmentalism or social justice.

So, the EPA shuts the mine down and puts all those people out of work? That showed'em!

Problem solved! There are too many people in this country that have jobs, anyway.

Yawn, so Arch Coal won't pony up 55 cents to prevent permanent damage
and puts people out of work. What loyal and great Americans they are huh:roll:

It's ok, I'm sure the government will be urging them with alternative green energy job incentives

True and they can just start drawing unemployment, 'til those green jobs materialize.

Notice, "could have" Maybe, might have. And the $.55 a ton, where did that figure come from? It's a rosy projection but there is a lot more to the story then you think. But if you want to stick with the "cheap ass greedy company couldn't spare $.55 they deserved it". be our guests. Real families are suffering now, think about that.

That is why I posted the story in response to the OP. Because there is more to the story.

That mountain top removal mining is pretty dog gone destructive ya know.

And other families will likely suffer due to the environmental destruction.

Why not just fix the problem? Is there another story about the possible environmental damage is being taken care of, or are we just left with nothing but a buncha people out of work?

Why do some people believe it is OK for companies to pollute the environment to save 1%? And then they blame environmentalists. Without them we would not be able to drink the water or breathe the air.

They should revoke the mining rights and transfer them to a more responsible company.

I wouldn't have shut them down, but forced them to do it. Protect the environment, protect the peoples jobs. Problems solved.

I don't think anyone said that polluting the environment is ok. My question is: how is doing nothing, other than putting people out of work, a solution?

You think the owners of that mining company are hurt by this? So, they'll only make $5 million this year, instead of $10 million. Those miners are going make zilch. That's showin'em!!!

Yeah, but we're talking about the government. The government isn't exactly into common sense solutions to problems. 'Specially, this government.

Ultimately, it's about pushing an agenda.

Sounds like the company could remedy the problem easily with minimal cost. 1 percent.

If The Messiah was all about saving jobs--as he claims--he would use government money to remedy the problem.

Government money isn't always the answer.

:lamo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was the answer when GM ran itself into the ground.

Then you people would complain about him spending money. The "Messiah"(just call the man by his damn name) can cure aids, and people would still complain.

But, that's not the case, is it? The fact is, his EPA killed jobs.
