Disgusting. Using this for political gain.

Pennsylvania Rep. Robert Brady, a Democrat from Philadelphia, told CNN that he also plans to take legislative action. He will introduce a bill that would make it a crime for anyone to use language or symbols that could be seen as threatening or violent against a federal official, including a member of Congress.

So they're not satisfied with violating one amendment to the Constitution, they're looking to violate two! What retards.

carolyn mccarthy is a psychobabbling nut case who cannot accept the fact that even NY's draconian gun laws couldnt keep colin fergunson from getting a gun and killing her unarmed husband

Loughner legally purchased his weapon – a Glock 19 with an extended magazine – from an Arizona store. The same kind of extended magazine was illegal under the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004. Read more: Carolyn McCarthy readies gun control bill - Shira Toeplitz - POLITICO.com

Assault weapons should be illegal on the Federal level. I shouldn't be able to go into a gun shop and buy a machine gun. It's absolutely ridiculous to think that private citizens should be able to possess these kinds of guns. I could go down the street right now and, with a three-day waiting period, walk away with a machine gun. Reeeeeeediculous.

No more assault weapons. No more right-to-carry. Background checks required. Three references required. No more gun show sales. I'm all for it. The time is now.

And, by the way, enforce the laws already on the books as to those who own/carry/transport illegal guns of any kind.

The blood ain't even dry, yet. Looks like she took Rahm's advice.
Sadly this is all too predictable. A tragedy happens and the anti-2nd amendment loons and now the anti-1st amendment loons come out of the wood work to try to push for unconstitutional laws. Americans do not suffer from Hoplophobia like the British or the Australians do.

You can't. There, problem solved.

The laws are enforced. Even at gun shows. When's the last time you tried to buy a gun.

Just for ****s and giggles, do to any given store that sells guns and try to buy one and see what happens.

I'll let someone who is more familiar with this explain it to you, but let me just note that the standards you think of when you say "machine gun" or "assault weapon" have nothing to do with how a gun actually works or how dangerous it is.

Do you know what a glock 19 is?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glock_19
The Glock is a series of semi-automatic pistols designed and produced by Glock Ges.m.b.H., located in Deutsch-Wagram, Austria.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Semi-automatic_pistol
A semi-automatic pistol is a type of handgun that can be fired in semi-automatic mode, firing one cartridge for each pull of the trigger.

a hysterical reaction.

You folks are also using this incident for political gain, simply by saying "Look how disgusting they are" you are attempting to make yourself look better in comparison, hence an attempt to again from the event. Of course if you did nothing than those other people on the left who are taking advantage of it as well won't be subject to as much ridicule as they should be. That's why I hate politics, there is no moral high ground and there's no way to claim since regardless of your opinion there's always a way to gain from any situation.

Certain types of checks Im all for but why do I feel like this is going to be an absolute WASTE of a bill that will prevent NOTHING in reality.

Stay tuned

I've seen machine guns hanging on the wall at my local gun store. Surely "a machine gun is a machine gun...." ? Surely a 22-automatic rifle with an extended magazine can wreak havoc...If one is defending their home, a double-barrel shotgun'll work just fine -- won't it?

My knowledge of guns is quite - very - completely limited. But I know that ordinary people like me ought'nt be able to walk into a gun shop and buy these kinds of weapons. And I sure can now.

She's hoping she can play on people's guilt. I can hear it now, "you wanted Gabby to get killed! That's why you won't vote for this bill!".

hmm thats actually an excellent point and in ways even my post is guilty of this I guess but it is the way I feel.

a hysterical reaction.

I've been described worse.

It's not a hysterical reaction. It's plain old common sense. Want to go hunting? Want to protect your home? Fine. But people just don't need to be able to shoot 18 rounds --plus -- without reloading. They just don't.

I would wager that you did not actually see machine guns at your local store. I would wager that you saw things that looked scary and that you assumed were machine guns. Accordingly, I don't think you really have the factual knowledge necessary to decide which guns should and should not be banned.

They probably weren't actual machine guns. Especially, if they were just hanging on the wall.

BTW, if they are actual machine guns, call the ATF and you can get the store owner in a ****load of trouble. Automatic weapons have to be locked up in a vault, at all times, unless the weapon is being transported from one place to another and then, it can only be possessed by a class 3 Federal Firearms License holder.

You can't shoot through walls very effectively with a shotgun.

Pulleeze. Even if I'm stupid I'm entitled to my opinion. Why I've seen that hundreds of times on DP. ;-)

The extended magazine on that Glock was illegal until 2004.

I do not think you are in a position to grant me immunity.

It's unfortunate when one doesn't know how to express an opinion without infracting...My heart goes out to you.
