The badge and a steroid-filled syringe -- it's not the typical image most have for the abuse of performance-enhancing drugs. But as more within law enforcement get nabbed in steroid investigations nationwide, observers say that usage levels among police officers could rival the seediest patches of the pro sports landscape.

Its easy to be a tough guy when you cower behind the money of the state and now these thugs are juicing, I would be laughing if this wasnt so sad.

Cops' Use of Illegal Steroids a 'Big Problem'

It has been my experience that those who hate all cops, all teachers, all military, all whatever have generally suffered embarassment at the hands of a member of the group they hate, typically brought about by their own stupidity.

I think it's unfortunate how you allow your prejudices to taint your perceptions of an entire field of professionals.

Guess you cons dont have the thick skin like you claim to have. I guess Ill have to us the PC term of Private Sector failure. Oh and I dont hate the military, I have several memebers who served in Korea and Vietnam hey but nice try Oscar.

Are you under the mistaken impression that I'm a conservative? Lulz. You're as bad as Navy Pride, my liberal friend.

I guess I'll have to add "cons" to your list of hate groups. thanks for the reminder.

in response to your article:

The pace of investigations into steroid use in the police ranks has picked up in recent months:

•A former police officer in Canby, Ore., who allegedly took delivery of some steroids while on duty pleaded guilty in February to purchasing steroids.
•An officer in South Bend, Ind., pleaded no contest in March to selling steroids.
•A Cleveland police officer was sentenced to a year in prison and five years of supervised release in April after he was found guilty of illegally purchasing steroids.
•A dealer in Paw Paw, Mich., allegedly told authorities that he supplied "several police officers" with steroids, which led one Kalamazoo officer to resign in May.

Four incidents does not a trend make. However, I have zero problems with regular drug-testing for police officers. The role is an important one, and we need to be sure that the people who are performing it are clearheaded and law-abiding.

which was my problem with the OP and the intent behind this thread. Just because a small minority of cops are douchebags doesn't make all cops douchebags.

I think that CD doesn't understand that there are hundreds of thousands of law-abiding, professional, hard-working cops in the U.S. Four incidents is not statistically significant.

apparently they are when you have an axe to grind

Reminds me of a security guard's opinion on the matter - he was our guard for the theater I worked at years ago.
"The reason why I can do it and you can't is that I've got a badge"

What does this have to do with anything being discussed on the thread? First and foremost, the OP provides several instances in which police officers have been PROSECUTED for using illegal substances. So, having a badge DOES NOT put people above the law.

Because that's the thought-process that many of them have to quantify what they do.
They think they can do ___ and ___ because they've been endowed with powers of the law.

Their badge goes to their heads.

You have zero evidence of this claim. You're simply displaying a personal bias, unsupported by facts.

4 accused cops juicing doesn't taint the police force as a whole. I feel many use this kind of stuff to justify a hatred for law enforcement. Yes it's bad, and yes those who are guilty of it should go to jail. However, this is an extremely small incident with a handful of people. The law abiding and honorable cops should not be judged like these individuals.

funny how you never see these cop haters use the same generalizations against all black people when there is an article where a handfull of black dudes commit some crime, or against all women when some psychobitch drowns her kids in the bathtub, etc

It depends on the group...

Muslims, Gays and government officials etc are safe targets. Blacks, women etc are not.

nah, you get dinged if you generalize muslims and gays too.

about the only safe targets these days are cops, teachers and politicians

Its hard to give an exact number of how many cops use these drugs. As an example, when I was in highschool. As a poll a teacher asked for students to write yes/no on a piece of paper if they had used drugs. Only four admitted to having used drugs. However, it was known by the "kids" that most of the students there had used drugs at least once in the past month. So really. Its never accurate to know the numbers. And to call cops honorable and law abiding is kind of a sad joke. Most cops act like they are the law because they wear badges and can get away with stuff most people cannot. So the badge goes to their head. Power is addicting and detrimental if you are not strong enough to handle it.

yeah...there's that "most" generalization again. Two black guys robbed the gas station down the street...I guess "most" black guys are criminals....

Yeah, you ever noticed in a thread like this. Its the same people fighting over and over time and time again. But do you want to know something. I don't care about generalizations. Because I do not do them. You just like to throw out accusations because you have as much credentials as most written articles do.

I'm sure that your hostility towards the 5-0s has nothing to do with your recent drug-related arrest.
