Opinion: Joe Scarborough tells GOP to man up and confront Sarah Palin - Joe Scarborough - POLITICO.com

Republicans have a problem. The most-talked-about figure in the GOP is a reality show star who cannot be elected. And yet the same leaders who fret that Sarah Palin could devastate their party in 2012 are too scared to say in public what they all complain about in private.

Enough. It’s time for the GOP to man up.

....
Palin was perturbed that a former president and his wife would dare to answer a question about whom they preferred for president in 2012. Perhaps her anger was understandable. After all, these disconnected “blue bloods” had nothing in their backgrounds that could ever make them understand “real America” like a former governor from Alaska who quit in the middle of her first term and then got rich.

Maybe Richards and Palin were right. Maybe poor George Herbert Walker Bush was born with a silver spoon in his mouth. Indeed, he was so pampered growing up that on his 18th birthday, the young high school graduate enlisted in the armed forces. This spoiled teenager somehow managed to be the youngest pilot in the Navy when he received his wings, flying 58 combat missions over the Pacific during World War II. On Sept. 2, 1944, “Blue Blood” Bush almost lost his life after being shot down by Japanese anti-aircraft fire.

With his engine shattered and his plane on fire, Bush still refused to turn back, completing his mission by scoring several damaging hits on enemy targets. His plane crashed in the Pacific, where he waited for four hours in enemy waters until he was finally rescued. For his bravery and service to this country, Bush was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, three air medals and the Presidential Unit Citation for bravery while in combat.

What a spoiled brat.

I suppose Palin’s harsh dismissal of this great man is more understandable after one reads her biography and realizes that, like Bush, she accomplished a great deal in her early 20s. Who wouldn’t agree that finishing third in the Miss Alaska beauty contest is every bit as treacherous as risking your life in military combat? Maybe the beauty contestant who would one day be a reality star and former governor didn’t win the Distinguished Flying Cross, but the half-termer was selected as Miss Congeniality by her fellow contestants.

Finally. Sarah Palin is a populist nitwit who couldn't even successfully complete a single term as governor. It's time for Sarah Palin to shut her freaking trap.

I don't support Sarah Palin for office in 2012 at this point but I do know that just about no one who bags one her and call her names know nothing about her record in public office.

G.H.W. Bush did serve with honor in WW-II and did a good thing with Desert Storm that was won by Generals not him, but while President began the push for a new world order and that is a Progressive idea in the style of Obama, and not in any way even moderately Conservative.

I would venture to say the Bushes know no more about Sarah Palin than the rest of those who repeat what they hear and believe what they are told because they are ignorant.

I also believe that many so-called Republicans are as afraid of any strong Conservatives, note what they said in the interview about not really knowing anything about the Tea Party movement.

I think that was to avoid pissing off millions who now associate themselves with this truly patriotic grass roots group that has Republican leadership in a quandary or what to do since they have failed the American people so miserably pretty much since President Ronald Reagan left office.

Right now I have to say, other than a few people I know of personally he was the last great American Patriot, and if we don't get another soon to replace the Anti-American Obama we are all screwed even his supporters they just don't know it yet.

Here's the interview in context. sarah was simply defending herself against barbara's snarky remarks "I think she is very beautiful, she likes Alaska, I hope she stays there"

Let's switch back to "centrist" Joe and his "no lables" new group.
I couldn't help but laugh at this ATTACK and CALLING FOR CIVILITY at the same time.
He's a jerk.
Some here have called for more attention centrists. Maybe this will help.
Personally I think centrists as politicians go are either RINOs or DINO,s. Too wishy washy for me...but that's just me.

A RINO on MSNBC who has lost his testicles is telling the GOP to man up?
"Isn't it ironic, dontcha think..."

I heard Joe RINO is first in line to be a replacement on The View when one of the lefties depart.

Sarah Palin is the unofficial figurehead of the change campaign that's arisen in the Republican wing. She's the Obama of the Republican wing, if you will. The change movement has come about because public satisfaction with the prior Republican administration was at unacceptable levels, so some form of a schism had to be created. It's also somewhat a response to the Obama administration, although it wouldn't have happened without the Republican base's desertion of Bush Jr.

There's the usual opposition that comes with this sort of thing. With Obama it was a systematic campaign to paint him as a socialist/Marxist, with Palin it's a systematic campaign against her experience/intelligence. It's the same stuff from either side who wants the status quo enforced, and who know that the change candidate will essentially continue this tradition, but need to create some opposition to maintain the public delusion that one side wants what they want and the other doesn't. Divided the public can squabble amongst themselves instead of addressing any real issues.

Palin is an interesting character; it's quite impressive how they've been able to prepare her. Some statistics are shown below: (click in each image for a link to the data, the first two are from mid November, the third is from February so take it with a grain of salt)

Essentially I believe the Republican nomination will come down to a change candidate versus a more "establishment" type candidate. Somewhat like Hillary versus Obama in 2008.

As for the ability of Palin to win, she has a fairly standard public opinion rating:

40% approval/52% disapproval isn't that far off Obama's current 47% approval/44% disapproval. With a little coaching she could certainly pull it off.

Notably, the independents approve of her about as much as the nation approves of Obama. It's largely the massive Democratic disapproval that's bringing her down, and that's pretty much irrelevant (no democrat would vote Republican anyway).

So can she do it? I think she can. Will anything actually change? Not a chance in hell.

I hope this helps, sorry for all the images! Please don't quote me, because it'll clog the page.
