U.S. Government Seizes BitTorrent Search Engine Domain and More | TorrentFreak

Yesterday we reported that the domain of hiphop site RapGodFathers had been seized and today we can reveal that they are not on their own. Two other music sites in the same field – OnSmash.com and DaJaz1.com – have fallen to the same fate. But ICE activities don’t end there.

Several other domains also appear to have been seized including 2009jerseys.com, nfljerseysupply.com, throwbackguy.com, cartoon77.com, lifetimereplicas.com, handbag9.com, handbagcom.com and dvdprostore.com.

While I have libertarian views regarding immigration, I want to respond as a conservative. So ICE would rather stop people from downloading content protected by aggressive intellectual property laws than deport people who are here illegally or enforce our borders? Now I'm going to go back into libertarian mode. So ICE would rather ditch one impossible-to-enforce expensive, life destroying, liberty removing law for another under?

I would hope anyone being stolen from would call upon all resources to prevent it. I do not see this as any form of oppression.

Destroying your liberty to duplicate the intellectual property of others? Those bastards.

As far as why ICE would be involved, that second letter might explain it. Music files are a product of sorts, and they're being "imported" illegally, I guess is the reasoning. Or perhaps because no other federal agency is particularly interested. FBI has bigger fish to fry.

Keeping **** from being copied is more of a important job to ice than to capture and deport illegals? This seems more evidence that the government is more worried about protecting business interests instead of whats right.

It sounds like they're seizing tiny **** nobody has ever heard of. Torrentz is still up, so it obviously isn't a sweeping crackdown.

Bet money that downloads are being logged from Torrentz and probably have been for a while. It's only a matter of time, but the problem is these sites that go down will just go back up under another domain by the same or possibly different owners within days.

Torrentz is just a search engine, not a download site.

At least you admit that it's a liberty being taken away and that the copier isn't guilty of some aggressive act. Your italics however implies that we shouldn't have this liberty. Glad to see that someone is honest enough to endorse the idea that it's ok for thought monopolies like patents and copyright to dictate what others can and cannot say and what others can and cannot do with their labor.

You cannot steal a thought, you can only steal the paper it's written on, unless of course you copied it. Patents and copyrights are very oppressive.

If you support retaliation against copyright infringement then I should be able to put a post it note on my face saying that the make up I applied and the face I am making is my creation and by making eye contact with me you agree to pay me $500 and if you don't I should be able to throw you in jail for doing an illegal download of my face into your memory.

"Oh that's silly. You can't possibly enforce that."

I'll have my friend take video evidence and if everyone in attendance doesn't pay me $500 dollars each to view my video I'll throw the jury, the judge, the bailiff, everyone in the gallery and my own lawyer to the gallows too.

"Your stupid point is moot is because the law--"

The law?! Ah yes, of course, "the law". I forgot. The almighty law determines ethics for everyone. Screw right or wrong. Let's just continue to elect barf bucket congressmen to misrepresent us to change the law so that we can argue constitutionality instead of ethics.

Do the opposite as before? It sounds like an interesting strategy. Before they were so focused on the big and bad, which obviously acted like a damn 30 billion headed snake.

Buahahahahahaha!

When a conservative finally figures it out, you know that the **** has hit the fan.

As soon as the corporations start undermining state rights, then I think people wil begin to figure out that this is no longer the United States of America but the United Corporations of America.

That's like saying police shouldn't try to capture bank robbers because there are also carjackers. They can do two things.

Thought monopolies. That's a new one. What others can and can't do with their labor? You're the one supporting the idea that I should just be able to take something that somebody else created.

You cannot steal a thought, you can only steal the paper it's written on, unless of course you copied it. Patents and copyrights are very oppressive.

Electronic data like a song or movie is a specific series of 1's and 0's that another human being created as a product to sell. You're supporting taking their effort for nothing.

That just doesn't even make any ****ing sense.

"Oh that's silly. You can't possibly enforce that."

It's silly for about a thousand other reasons too.

I'll have my friend take video evidence and if everyone in attendance doesn't pay me $500 dollars each to view my video I'll throw the jury, the judge, the bailiff, everyone in the gallery and my own lawyer to the gallows too.

"Your stupid point is moot is because the law--"

No, nobody was making that argument either.

Seriously, your face metaphor is downright retarded. Brains aren't computers, memories aren't products. If we're going with your ridiculous scenario I could just as easily say you are guilty of damaging my memories by having photons bounce off your face and enter my cornea, sending signals through my optic nerve into my brain, forcing the imprint of your face into MY head! Or maybe because you placed that note on your forehead, you are agreeing to the laws of physics that dictate photons will bounce off it and hit my eyes, so you've given me implied consent to use your stupid note.

Hey, since we're in stupid extrapolation of stupid situations world, here's another one:
You support being able to steal the products of other people's labors. Clearly, then, you also support my going down to the Ferrarri dealership and taking a car. After all, property laws are oppressive!

Just admit it: You want **** that other people make for free. I thought libertarians were supporters of that free market stuff, but implementing your ideal position would hinder business.

That's like saying police shouldn't try to capture bank robbers because there are also carjackers. They can do two things.
No, it's like saying that a victimless crime shouldn't have so much attention drawn on it while cars and banks are being robbed.

You're the one supporting the idea that I should just be able to take something that somebody else created.

Thoughts are not things you can make by hand or by machine and you cannot build boarders around them. You cannot take or borrow or steal an idea from someone else. The moment you can build a boarder around some stupid rap song or something is when you can break a barrier and steal an idea that somebody "created" (and was derived from other "creations" that you probably aren't paying royalties to). The only way you can enforce patents and copyright is if you spy on people and threaten to extort money from them or throw them in jail or enact other forms of violence.

Electronic data like a song or movie is a specific series of 1's and 0's that another human being created as a product to sell.

Alrighty. I'll do a lossless rip of a CD, do a micro-marginal tweak of the sound with a mixer that will totally throw off the unstructured data, burn it back to a CD, rip it again using tools to verify it's inaccuracy and I have successfully bypassed that.

That just doesn't even make any ****ing sense.

How does it not make sense? I put an intellectual effort to make artisan modifications to my face and I want to control who looks at it with intellectual property laws like we've got with other visual arts. You cannot look at my face for free! Admit it! You just want to look at my face for free!

Sounds like you understand my premise perfectly. Now you're thinking and demonstrating how ridiculous and aggressive the concept of intellectual property law is.

You support being able to steal the products of other people's labors.
I don't feel that copying is stealing especially if the credits remain entact. I do not feel that thoughts are products. Coercive thought monopolies deprive me of my labor by not allowing me the ability to use my labor to make my own and sell to others.

Clearly, then, you also support my going down to the Ferrarri dealership and taking a car. After all, property laws are oppressive!

No, but I support you buying a ferarri, taking it apart to learn the design and mechanics of it, remanufacturing your own ferarri, and call it the Deuce mobile and making another one to sell it. Stealing a car actually deprives the dealership of the car you stole, unlike copying data or manufacturing something that is patented that is not permitted to you by the company that owns the patent and the state that licenses it. Property laws cannot be oppressive by definition. Intellectual property laws wouldn't be either if all they did was protect against fraud.

Just admit it: You want **** that other people make for free. I thought libertarians were supporters of that free market stuff, but implementing your ideal position would hinder business.

Thought monopolies are anti-free market and cannot be enforced without big brother and initiating force. Enforcing copyright and patents require intervention and regulation of the market which is the antithesis of free markets. Free market =/= business interests.

Since my purposefully silly scenario to illustrate the silliness of intellectual property pissed you off so badly, I'll use another.

We're all cavemen. One day, one cave man decides to take logs and other materials to an open field to build himself shelter that provides better than a cave does. His caveman neighbors see this and wish to imitate. However, IP does not allow this cavemans neighbors to use their own logs on their own land with their own labor simply because they didn't make shelter like this first unless they are willing to pay the caveman for the right. This IP gives the cave man partial ownership over the land, materials and labor of his neighbors simply for having the idea first.

Currently, the law has it so that patents eventually expire. How do you feel about that? Is the government stealing from the inventor and letting pirates run amok?

Why the net-website mumbo jumbo? The software is a hassle, it doesn't work efficiently and it's tedious.
All one needs is a Grex Box and any ole DVD recorder.

Done.

Following on the heels of this week’s domain seizure of a large hiphop file-sharing links forum,

Although I HAAAAATE rap and the people that swim in that pool..... it is 100% WRONG for the Gov't to come in and take control over it. If it were Justin Bieber.... OK.

Should focus on changing the copy write laws instead

But the businesses create all the jobs.

What the hell does immigration have to do with enforcement of copyright law? This is nothing more than a baiting thread to pit conservatives against libertarians.

This is really pointless, one site goes down, three more go up.

Corporations trying to take away your rights is no different than the government trying to take away your rights. PLus if you think about it one of the reasons the government refuses to do its job regarding illegal immigration is to toss the salad of all the traitorous scum who hire illegals much the way they divert precious tax payer dollars to crack down of fat and skinny nerds making copies of stuff.

If its a outsourced business then I really do not give a kids in China or India earning a dollar or two a day and if its a automated factory then they can not really have that many jobs to begin with.

Having ICE go after nerds downloading music and other crap is like having the FBI crack down on jay walkers while at the same time letting those who commit federal crimes go.

This is really the point in all of this. Government crackdowns on internet sites...on travelers at airports, on marijuana smokers...look at us...we are DOING something! Yay!

OK...so we havent touched the illegal immigration problem and we focus more on our citizens than on the people that pose a threat...but at least we LOOK pro-active.

And for all the liberals that are ONCE AGAIN knee jerking dropping to their knees in defense of this admin...werent you the same ones freaking out (oddly joining your voices then with the pro 2A and ant-givernment groups) about Bush and their 'attacks on Americans freedoms and liberty'? Good lord what a bunch of laughable hypocrites...

Works for me

whats a Grex Box?

Yes sir, I won't deny that. The agency would rather oversee the copying and sharing of data over the internet which continues this copyright protection philosophy that has made debatepolitics.com less prosperous and more beuarcratic to prevent claims of copy infringements.

whats a Grex Box?

It's a signal interruption box - input is plugged into one side, output extends out the other - from your TV to DVR or whatever. In order to prevent you from recording said copy there is a programmed signal that tells your DVD or computer "don't record this" - if that signal is interrupted then it won't be received and, thus, your DVR won't know "don't record this"

The grex box filters out the signal while allowing the actual video of the feed through.
