Palin's reckless views on obesity

Smokers and overweight people should just pay higher premiums, if they don't already. That might be incentive enough to quit and lose weight if it means your premiums go down.
No, let me change that. Thin, non smokers should have reduced premiums. That sounds better. OOOps, Sarah Palin's Alaska is on! You all don't wanta miss it! :)[/QUOTE]

yes, go watch it, it will be off the air soon:2razz:

LOL, you're right. It's only an 8 part series.

I pretty much agree with everything you said. Its not going to be an easy overnight fix. People are going to HAVE to become a little more self sufficient...a little more feral. And yes...its going to sting. I think in the meantime charitable organizations and 'the people' are going to have to step up their efforts while the fed reduces theirs. Somewhere 'in the middle' there will be a solution. Or they will simply die...which...BTW...they are doing NOW and none of these current programs are touching that. We are having this discussion precisely BECAUSE the obesity problem is escalating.

I keep preaching self sufficiency in the thread too.. I expect people to be self sufficient, at least, but especially not to be lazy in any sense.. I think education is important.. teaching people to be self sufficient, manage money, food can be free, energy can be free, and that type of education is ignored in schools, especially where the individuals need those skills the most. I don't think the top priority of children in the poorest parts of this country should be to pass federal education requirements. The top priority should be for them to learn how to break out of poverty and how to be self sufficient. Communities should be in more control than anybody else in the area of education, and communities can better solve the issues of poverty and obesity than the feds.

So - they just don't have insurance and they won't pay the premiums, which is why we're in our government-health insurance pickle. If they're poor and they get horribly sick - they just become candidates for write-offs.

Thus - tax the crap they want - make them pay unavoidably.

That may become impossible with new regulations.

Congress is likely to pick up S. 510, a sweeping overhaul of food safety regulation, in the lame duck session starting in November 2010.

I agree with you (who'dathunkit, huh?). I think it is more kind to create an environment of self sufficiency. Ive known many to be dependent on others...Ive not many that were HAPPY about or with the dependency. Its settling...and surviving...but not thriving.

Well, they can pry my hoe from my cold dead fingers.

In the USSR, the government took control of private property for collective farming purposes, and expected the land workers to toil enough to feed everybody. When they gave the individual toilers a plot for their person use, those small subsects produced more food than the collective plots altogether... so even in the USSR self sufficiency won over coercive government and communism. Those with the skills ate better and were better nourished than the factory workers..

First we should buy some hot dogs and cook them over Pelosi's flaming HC bill.
Then we get congress to sit down and discuss this.

According to your first source, the GOP wants to "encourage healthier lifestyles". SO why is Palin not attacking them for wanting to do the same thing Michelle Obama is doing?

Yeah.. wasn't Huckabee on some type of anti obesity campaign in the primary, and pushing that in his health care plan? Not that I read into his hc plan or anything, but I am betting if he was doing this campaign we wouldn't hear a peep from most of the conservatives.. just being honest

Here is the thing, Republicans have no problem saying what people can and can't get with food stamps want to do this and the other thing, but I guess wanting cleaner air and don't want a bunch of fat lazy kids is a bad thing? If they are fat and lazy they will have to rely on food stamps because they get to ****in fat to get off their ass and actually work. I dunno I'm being silly. This topic is off the chain.

You know, the solution to this is simple. Have people pay for their own health care. You fat, you smoke, you drink like a fish... you pay more. Simple.

With ObiKare, who cares? Someone else is paying the freight.

Party!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As much as I can't stand Palin, she is right on this issue. I want my God damn gravy fries, and if the government wants to stop me from having them, they are going to have to pry them from my cold, dead hands.

Well there's the whole prohibition vs. education thing. I don't really know what the end goal is, if it some prohibition or rather if its centered around education. There's a difference. In one, those gravy fries are still there and you can still choose to eat them. But there is a program, aimed a kids, to tell them why perhaps they shouldn't eat gravy fries for every meal, exalt the benefits of exercise and healthy living. In those terms, I have no problem with it. Fact of the matter is that we do have an obesity problem. While people are free to make choices for themselves, we can work collectively and on an aggregated level (through government even) to ensure that those choices are educated.

The other side is that those gravy fries no longer exist. You are stripped of your ability to choose the unhealthy choice. That is not a situation I could agree with. While it's ok, particularly when we have some large national problem such as obesity, to encourage good choices and healthy living; it's not ok to remove the choice. So it would depend on which end Michelle is working towards. If it's education, then it's fine. If it's prohibition, then it's not.

You know, just because someone's paying for your healthcare doesn't mean you're healthy. You're still responsible for preventing yourself from turning into a cancerous diabetic lardass, and you're the one who has to live with yourself if you do.

This may be the jumping-of-the-shark for Palin. A 'reality' show that nobody watches.

I saw on the news the other day she was beating the hell out of some poor damn fish. Looked like a fool.

I think the media is as saturated as it can get with her. Only the true believers can bear to watch her.

I saw the actual show, your statement is idiotic. You're just revealing your true lean, and proving me correct about that. Thanks.

You're using the quoting feature wrong.

Anyway, who was it beating the crap out of those fish?

Lord, I hope they weren't planning to release those poor concussed things. They'd just swim in circles, upside down.

You know, all I could think about when I saw her doing that is how that film would be used in ads by her opponents if she runs for President.

Americas Chickens are coming hoooome to roost.

Before they're slaughtered while hanging upside down on an assembly line anyway.

Please get past the personal attacks they show a lack of ability to discuss issues intelligently.

The name calling really shows ignorance as well.

The only one reckless is M. Obama and her total hypocrisy. For Thanksgiving the Obama's had something like 9 different kinds of pies and I saw no mention of any of them being sugar free or nonfat.

barack-obama-eating-frogs-001.jpg

What is that? Oh fried chicken, sorry fried food is not healthy.

obama-michelle-icecream-oregon-xl.jpg

Every time the Obama's are shown on vacation almost every month, we see pictures of them taken eating Ice cream and it's never reported that it is sugar and fat free, because it's not.

obama_smoke.jpg

The pictures a fake but what it depicts is very real, and it his brand I understand.

Until the Obama's stop eating things like the Pizza they had for lunch when Obama spent tens of thousands of dollars to have made by a cook they flew in from Texas, eat ice cream all the time, have 9 pies for Thanksgiving dinner, and Hussein still smokes I say Michelle should keep her mouth shut.

If she wants to help the Nation she should reduce her million dollar personal staff back to what the numbers where when Mamie Eisenhower was First lady.

And yes I know she is only spending a little more the Laura Bush, and Hillary and they spent way too much as well. No one elected them and we shouldn't have to pay for their vanity needs.

LOL

And pie

Can't forget the pie - Obama loves the pie.

But he rides a bike - well - he use to.

There is an obvious difference between the Obamas and fat lazy kids and you people know it. Quit acting like you don't.

Like I said what is wrong with her telling kids not to be fat? I'm sure Palin has no qualms with "socialist/marxist/godless" programs like this thing they got in high school called "Home-Ec".

You know, just because someone's paying for your healthcare doesn't mean you're healthy. You're still responsible for preventing yourself from turning into a cancerous diabetic lardass, and you're the one who has to live with yourself if you do.

That is YOUR choice. People make all kinds of personal choices that are detrimental to health, but inserting government into the equation to try to un-fat the fatties isn't going to work. In fact THE GOVERNMENT MADE THE PROBLEM WORSE with their ****ing Food Pyramid.

The government, that cancerous growth, can go to hell with telling people how to live their lives. Let me ask you... you think weed should be legalized? My bet is you'd say yes. Decriminalize it? If so, you're a hypocrite.

And nobody touched the following with a 50-foot pole...

Obesity is trivial when compared to HIV/AIDS. So when are we going to have an education program in schools and over the public airwaves about the dangers of homosexuality? When is the government going to assemble and empower the Sex Police to ensure people are using their sex pistols in the proper manner? You see, (using your sentence above) you're responsible for ensuring you don't become a threat to society with the weapon hanging between you legs. This hasn't happened, and HIV/AIDS has severe consequences. Obesity only harm that individual; not HIV/AIDS. And fatties need only go on a diet to change. Those infected with HIV are stuck with that condition and are a potential threat to others until they croak.

I can think of a whole lot of things we can do to ensure a healthier life. Here's a few:
There were 6 million auto accidents in 1999. About 40,000+ die annually... so... I propose:
No driving from sunset to sunrise and a 30 mph speed limit.

There were 37,000 alcohol related deaths in 2007.
17.6 million are alcoholics or have alcohol related problems...so...
Ban alcohol.

Over 1 million Americans have HIV/AIDS.
No sex before 21 and then only after you've had an official certificate of clean health from the government, and then only with a condom.

Ban homosexuality for males; the anus isn't designed to take a unit, and it's 600 times more likely you'll get HIV vs. a vagina.

Enforce sodomy laws.

Nobody is allowed to open a business; the stress levels of having to deal with an overbearing government might do too much damage.

So.........................

Everyone to the potato fields. Leave the pin heads in DC (no state governments) tell us how to live our lives.

LOL

And pie

Can't forget the pie - Obama loves the pie.

But he rides a bike.
Obama still rides. He's been bare-backing the nation for about 22-months.

There IS but one answer to resolve the problem of obesity. Let em die.

OK...I KNOW that sounds harsh...but hear me out...

The more we do FOR people the less they do for THEMSELVES. History has proven that to be factual. With all the government giveaway programs we have we dont have LESS dependent people we have MORE. The honest and HELPFUL answer is to tell people to start by damn doing for themselves. YES people are going to struggle and suffer and yes there would have to be MASSIVE changes in the way we provide community services (volunteer charity with the expectation of success and progress and EFFORT by the recipient) but in the long run it will HELP not hurt or hinder.

I know...I know...its cruel. Its mean. Its heartless. Meanwhile...we continue to experience greater problems...not because we dont help ENOUGH. Because we do too much.

Slogans dont help. New government programs dont help. The "Move It" prgram is going to be as effective as the last program...its NOT. But dang it will make us all feel good about ourselves.

So encouragement... yes?

Thanksgiving is once a year. Nutritional experts will tell you the occasional splurge won't lead to obesity.

Every time the Obama's are shown on vacation almost every month, we see pictures of them taken eating Ice cream and it's never reported that it is sugar and fat free, because it's not.

Once again, those are vacations... as in periods meant for relaxation and/or a break from the routine. You can catch a quick glimpse of the Presidents diet here or you can look to what their children eat at school:

Snacks like zucchini bread or apples and cheese
French Dip with Au Jus
Chicken Fajitas
Spicy Organic Black Bean Tortillas
Yellow Rice
Roasted Veggie Melts
Steamed Broccoli
Cinnamon Orange Slices

Even if the Obama parents consume fatty foods at a pace higher than others, everyone should be expected to identify and eat based off their own capacity (by that I mean particular notice of one's metabolism). If the Obama's can eat the type of food you've highlighted (and not gain an ounce) there's nothing wrong (or hypocritical) about encouraging better eating habits for those who have body types that struggle with the consumption load. There's a lot of talk about personal responsibility in this thread, so it would be backwards to claim that the Obama's aren't taking responsibility if they have identified how often they can get away with consuming not-so-healthy products. Everyone is different, so it's silly to assume the Obama's must provide some sort of holistic diet for every body type out there.

You figure it out, then you consume accordingly (generally speaking).

I think the Obama's should list every item they shove down their gullets.
In fact, we should demand it.

We are paying for them, their health care, their food... so it is OUR concern. Living off our dime, and our paying their health care, we have the right to know every frigg'in thing they shove down their yaps.

For the good of the nation, and so we can monitor and scrutinize their habits. To me... Michelle looks a wee bit too fat. Could it be her diet? How can we know if she isn't forthcoming? We could give her some pointers. Perhaps she's consuming too many carbs and ought to ingest more meat.

It's time for them to put up or shut up. More importantly, we need to know how many fags Obama sticks in his face daily and the brand.

It's not so much what you eat, but how much; and there are some foods that keep you filled up for longer periods. It's simple math really... if you burn "X" calories daily and you consume "X" + "Y" + "Z, you're going to gain weight. If you want to lose weight, instead of eating something, have a cup of water; it's not rocket science, and it's none of Obama's business how much, or what we consume, so long as it's a legal foodstuff.

It's none of their business. That's why. None... of... their... business.
Further, they are stigmatizing fatties, and kids being kids, now have grounds to pester the fatties because Mommy Dearest says they're a problem.
