Daily Kos: It's Official Jon Stewart & Colbert will host a rally on October 30th in DC

Jon Stewart just made it official.Tonight on The Daily Show, Jon Stewart will announce that he will host the "Rally to restore Sanity" on october 30th,2010 on the National Mall in Washington DC.

Remember how Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert mocked Glenn Beck for his Rally on the day of MLK's "I have a dream" speech anniversary. Since then many of their fans have asked both Stewart and Colbert to hold a rally in response.

...

Well you have been heard because on October 30th, the "Rally to restore Sanity" will be held on the National Mall in DC. Jon Stewart said that the rally isn't for wackos only for "common sense" americans. He told his audience that Birther Signs, Truther Signs,"Obama is Hitler" signs, "Bush is Hitler" signs and other crazy aren't allowed. Only "sane" signs will be allowed LOL. He assured that he wasn't joking and the rally is real. They are set to tape The Daily Show that week in D.C !

At the end of his show he asked his viewers to visit this website:

Rally to Restore Sanity

I wish I could go. :(

"I'm mad as hell, and I'm not going to take it anymore!"

Who among us has not wanted to open their window and shout that at the top of their lungs?

Seriously, who?

Because we're looking for those people. We're looking for the people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat; who feel that the loudest voices shouldn't be the only ones that get heard; and who believe that the only time it's appropriate to draw a Hitler mustache on someone is when that person is actually Hitler. Or Charlie Chaplin in certain roles.

Are you one of those people? Excellent. Then we'd like you to join us in Washington, DC on October 30 -- a date of no significance whatsoever -- at the Daily Show's "Rally to Restore Sanity." Ours is a rally for the people who've been too busy to go to rallies, who actually have lives and families and jobs (or are looking for jobs) -- not so much the Silent Majority as the Busy Majority. If we had to sum up the political view of our participants in a single sentence... we couldn't. That's sort of the point.

Think of our event as Woodstock, but with the nudity and drugs replaced by respectful disagreement; the Million Man March, only a lot smaller, and a bit less of a sausage fest; or the Gathering of the Juggalos, but instead of throwing our feces at Tila Tequila, we'll be actively *not* throwing our feces at Tila Tequila. Join us in the shadow of the Washington Monument. And bring your indoor voice. Or don't. If you'd rather stay home, go to work, or drive your kids to soccer practice... Actually, please come anyway. Ask the sitter if she can stay a few extra hours, just this once. We'll make it worth your while.

As much as I love Jon Stewart, I really don't want to hear about another damn rally. I thought Stewart was above playing these stupid pundit games.

Oh goodie, that means another six weeks of threads on some idiotic rally.

It will be fun to see the sides switched now though.

Oh yay I just got the facebook event invite for this event.

There's one before that on the mall too. Did you forget? Oct 2 the Ed Shultz rally? By the time we're finished talking about that one, it will be time for Stewarts. :)

Don't forget about Colbert's March To Keep Fear Alive Rally on the same day!

They are really taking parody to the next level, and I really can't wait for it. I wish I could go.

It's a parody. That is what Stewart and Colbert do.

The fun will be how few people show up, and how high the CBS "professional out side group" estimates the crowd to be.

Colbert's part is absolutely a parody... that is what he does. It's called "March to Keep Fear Alive" for goodness sakes.

As for Jon Stewart, he might take on a more serious role. If you watch his show, you can tell how passionate he is about politics. A comedic touch wouldn't necessarily mean there is no serious message behind the rally. And giving the moderates/independents a voice is something this country needs right now.

Right.

Because it matters how much socio-political pull a couple of comedians have, much less what the media machine has to say about it.

Probably, seeing how people have close to a month to make plans and much fewer people watch Comedy Central compared to Fox News.

It's a pre-Halloween gag rally where fans of the comedy central shows get to dress up and make fun of teabaggers, teabrains, teatards, and the incredibly stupid masses that have been crapping on reason and thriving on fear.

Restore Sanity, Keep Fear Alive...

5,000 college students and other fans of the shows that live close to DC.

Of course, they won't have Kotch Industries footing the bill for busses, Dick Armey's groups doing logistics.

The point that Stewart made is that the fringe(left and right) too often dominates the discussion. 50% of the threads here prove that.

Stewart did mention special guests TBA, I predict some musical acts, and celebrities.

Only 50% from fringe left and right? I guess that is probably close enough. IMO, we should hear more from the radical middle...and the message to the fringe element shoud be to STFU....:2razz:

Right.

Yeah, I know, Tina Fey had no effect on the outcome of the 2008 election.

Niether did Chevy Chase on the 1976 election.

No one pays attention to political satire. It doesn't become part of the collective consciousness, the Zeitgeist. Michael Moore doesn't get under anyones skin.:2wave:

New York, Chicago, L.A. with their culture, comedians, and media, they have so little power or influence...

i think it's hilarious......and a good way to highlight the idiocy of the palin/beck rallies.

a million moderate march.........

So uhm where were they when the tards at the anti-war protests were all shouty?

Snotty leftism at it hypocritical finest.

100% of yours in fact. :prof

Stewart made that point about why we don't hear more from the radical moderates or center majority -- we got **** to do. We're busy.

Stewart says he's not looking for the seasoned rally-goer who may flock to hyper-political gatherings carrying an homemade Obama-is-Hitler--or Bush-is-Hitler-- sign. Instead, Stewart described the event as a "million moderate march" and a "clarion call for rationality"—in other words, an antidote to the overheated protests on the left and right.

"You may be asking yourself, right now, sitting at home, but am I the right type of person to go to this rally," said Stewart. "The fact that you would even stop to ask yourself that question, as opposed to just, let's say, jumping up, grabbing the nearest stack of holy books, strapping on a diaper and just pointing your car towards D.C.—that means I think you might just be right for it."

Unfortunately, our apathy may bite us in the ass this Nov. I want more moderate right of center GOPs getting into office, I think we need more balance to force fiscal responsibility--Don't spend it, unless you can pay for it. But the big ones, like Medicare and entitlements, will either party step up and make hard choices? These issues usually get used to swing voters in a two year election cycle.

However, these Teatard candidates, they're not fiscal conservatives, they're far-right wingnuts with extremists ideas that sound great to the Teabrain masses who don't have a clue about economics or public policy. We don't need more Barbara Bachmanns.

To the extent that these outsider candidates become the new face of Republicans, the GOP is going to have PR problems. Karl Rove is starting to get a taste for this.

Yeah, all the far-right 'Libertarians' around here are quite humorous.

Have they ever actually read the Libertarian platform?? It's an interesting but unrealistic 'thought exercise' in Darwinian public policy. As if removing all the barriers and boundaries would solve everything. But the far-rights love to cherry-pick from it, and change their label when the so-called Rinos let them down.

If it walks like a rightie, barks like a rightie... it's a far-rightie.

LMFAO Now THAT'S a rally I will go to. Only 2hrs away, easy peasy. I'll be there with bells on.

Yeah, but this one has the best message of them all "America, take it down a notch"

Damned straight.
