It's Official Jon Stewart & Colbert will host a rally on October 30th in DC

It's been all over, apparently just not where or when you've been looking.

I've heard multiple conservative pundits trying to demean it on their radio and TV talk shows.

Plus many other channels and news sites. Do a Google News search for "Rally to Restore Sanity" and notice how many news sources there are.

I've even caught a few articles in newspapers about it, so I'm sure many other newspapers around the country have been talking about it.
Opera gave tickets to the rally and round trip airline tickets to one of Jon Stewarts entire audiences.

This does not bode well for Democrats. Lecturing people and making fun of the turn in the political tide during a horrible economic period does not sit well with everyday, practical people.

Tuesday is going to be a bloodbath.

What the hell are you talking about? FOX News is all about lecturing people and trying to steer em:confused:

Guess I heard right. From the day of the rally.
.
So it is supposed to be non-political, but this is hilarious:

There’s the real irony: While this rally seeks to make fun of Tea Party activists who advocate for freedom, Comedy Central is looking to tightly control the event as much as possible. Lame.

Irony reaches new heights as Comedy Central is going to “strictly prohibit filming” of the Rally to Restore Sanity/March to Keep Fear Alive. PJTV’s Washington Bureau chief Richard Pollock inquired with the Comedy Central’s senior vice president of corporate communications Steve Albani about receiving credentials. Albani claimed that Pollock would not be given credentials because of limited supply, and as such there would be no room on the “press riser” for PJTV’s camera and crew. When Pollock said that he’d be fine with filming not on the press riser, Albani said that filming would be “strictly prohibited” between 3rd and 7th streets on the National Mall (ground zero for the event). The email exchange is further down.

...

You don’t need credentials to film an event open to the public on federal land that has already permitted other media outlets. Comedy Central has not leased the National Mall, nor could it...

In fact, the Tea Party movement has done a bang-up job allowing as many kooky reporters and camera-toting people into their rallies, and simply found ways to deal with it without clamping down on free press...

Glenn Beck’s “Restoring Honor” rally granted 450 such credentials to journalists, but in the brief contact NewsBusters had with Beck’s staff there was no indication that any reporter who had requested credentials had been turned down.

There were people with Cameras all over the outside borders of the Rally. I didn't even bother to try to get ONTO the mall.

From what little I could hear, and it was little...the speaker system sucked...it didn't seem like Stewart and Colbert were making it political.

However their fans did not exactly do a good job of hearing Stewarts message about the point of this event. I'd say in regards to signs there that I saw the make up would be about 50% humerous/neutral, 45% Left Leaning, and about 5% of right leaning signs. Hardly "non-partisan" on the part of the supporters of it.

As far as conspiracy nuts, I did see both 9/11 truthers and "Palin didn't really have the baby" people. As far as "hateful" rhetoric you had signs of Palin being called a "teatard" and Christine O'Donnell being called a **** (The c word) as well as one calling her a crazy bitch. Not to mention "**** Glenn Beck" and a sign depicting the Republicans as the devil.

There were some very humerous ones as well. I enjoyed one with a picture of hitler and under it said "Hitler was Hitler!". I also enjoyed "What do we want? Moderation. When do we want it? In a reasonable time frame!" Also a number of "MY SIGN IS VERY LARGE" and other variations of it. Quite a lot of them gave me a good laugh.

I'll try to get some pictures up soon.

I found it interesting that Jon Stewart seemed very reasonable when saying that we need to realize that tea party =/= racist and Williams & Sanchez =/= bigots. Yet the same people falling all over themselves about this rally are the very ones who constantly call tea partiers racist.

The event being nonpartisan does not mean the attendance would be. Most fans of Stewart and Colbert are young, and the young tend to be liberal.

The bolded one is awesome! Looking forward to the pictures, thank you for the report.

Nice generalization there. I think this rally is great, and I don't call the Tea Party racist and have said that here.

You're right. I meant to say SOME of the people gushing over Jon Stewart and Colbert are the very ones who constantly call tea partiers racist. I thought what I heard of Jon's speech was great. I haven't had time to watch it all since I just got home. Did Colbert speak too? I've only heard about Stewart's.

He was scheduled to, but I have been doing housework on and off all day so unsure.

No, after a "formidable opponent" debate between Stewart and Colbert, Peter Pan (John Oliver) and the crowd killed the fear monger, and Stewart gave the closing message.

Kinda funny, "Who among us has not wanted to open their window and just shout at the top of their lungs?...we are looking for those people...people who think shouting is annoying, counterproductive, and terrible for your throat;"

Am I missing something here?

The joke apparently. Realize you are quoting a webpage with a button labeled "Don't click this".

I think so, I watched most of the rally on Comedy Central and it was fun watching and I thought is was a huge success.

I missed the button, I was just quoting the original post.

As I said, I can't speak to the partisanship or lack there of of Stewart, I could barely hear him. I was simply saying that many of his supporters and fans didn't seem to actually buy into his message of "restoring sanity", having reasonable political discourse, and making this event non-partisan.

Some people apparently did not get the idea behind the rally...

Indeed.

The bolded one is awesome! Looking forward to the pictures, thank you for the report.

Yeah, I laughed with that one. I thanked each and every person I saw that had an actual funny sign that actually followed in the supposed spirit of the event rather than just "HUR HUR TEA BAGGERS SUCK"

I don't doubt it was a success. I just think it's funny that he says they are looking for people who want to open their window and shout at the top of their lungs, but who also think shouting is annoying and counterproductive.

I think Stewart is very funny. Colbert not so much, mostly he is just insulting and annoying. I do think it's funny that some liberals are hoping that this comedy routine will drive young voters to the polls. I guess whatever it takes at this point.

Do you agree with Jon Stewart, pb, that people need to stop calling the tea parties racist?

Personally, I think only ignorant people can seriously make the claim that TEA parties are racist without being liars. I attended the TEA party in Jacksonville, FL with Star Parker as the keynote speaker and every race and gender was very well represented. Calling the TEA party racist is a desparate ploy by the left who understands that if they lose any one of their various bamboozled voter blocks, they will never win another election. They are using fear mongering to make blacks think that conservatism means racism. It simply is not true. Meanwhile, what has the left done for minorities? Only whatever it takes to get them to the polls on election day.

The sound/TV system at the rally SUCKED. I wasn't even very far away from the stage, and it was very difficult to hear what was going on. I had no idea that Cat Stevens even performed until after I got home.

Epic planning fail, Jon Stewart.

Some primer from the rally.

I seem to remember lots of pissin'-n-moanin' over this sorta thing, comeing from...somebody. We don't seem to be seeing the outrage, today. Why is that?

This is offensive. The American flag isn't clothing. Just goes to show what kind of chumps Stewart and Colbert really are.

This wasn't anything more than another Liberal circle-jerk

.

Watched most of the rally (on TV). Really thought Stewart did an excellent job maintaining the "let's tone it down" spirit of the event. Music was great. Couple of the "entertainment" segment were a little painful to watch (Myth Busters, Tim Meadows hawking souvenirs) but those things come with the territory.

Was genuinely impressed with the closing speech Stewart gave. Came across as heartfelt and was delivered well.

Kudos to the rally/event and those who made it happen...;)
