It's Official Jon Stewart & Colbert will host a rally on October 30th in DC

I don't expect this "Rally to Restore Sanity" to be any more successful at restoring sanity to America than the "Restoring Honor" rally was at restoring honor to America.

But sometimes people need a reminder that they are not alone in their feelings about the current status and the direction of one's own country.

When it comes to certain issues, who's right and who's wrong depends on who you're talking to. We all have our own opinions... and that's the point. We can have disagreements, but in order to form a productive discourse we need remain civil.

:respekt:

These gatherings are nothing more than "The Daily Show" and "The Colbert Report".. .. ..LIVE. I find it curious how folks are assigning to it any more than that. :rock

Al Franken was just a comedian. What is Glenn Beck "just" so we can not take him seriously as well?

I'd call him a Drama Queen, myself.

The daily show and colbert report happen LIVE 5 days a week 2 miles from where I live. That usually doesn't warrant front page treatment on google news.

Cobert and stewart are no mark twain. :lamo

Different time, different medium.

I doubt you've read enough Twain or watched enough Daily Show to accurately compare their relevance to their time. So, I'm not even sure why you bother commenting on something which you couldn't possibly have a meaningful opinion.

Colbert and Stewart are certainly two of today's the most popular comedic voices. They have certainly had more success in reaching wider audiences than either Bill Maher or Dennis Miller.

News is reported to sell the newsmaker's wares, nothing more; nothing less. :2wave:

So colbert and Stewart are modern day mark twains.... :lamo :lamo

Other than your nasty personal attack which is a lie of speculation on your part. You really have some nerve reporting me ad nauseum then engaging in personal attacks.

Bill maher is a liberal.

But let's compare apples to apples..... Neither of those two are a limbaugh who markets himself too as an entertainer.

Maybe I'm missing something, but what exactly is the attraction of this thing? It's going to be a bunch of self-satisfied yuppies sniffing their own farts and congratulating themselves on being smarter than everyone else.

The point of it is humor, sarcasm, and the like. I'm hardly a yuppie, and most assuredly not a liberal. I plan on attending if I can find someone to go with. Because I think it'll be fun and ****ing hilarious. I chose not to go to Beck's sermon on the mount because I can't stomach mass religious worship.

What do you believe he's disingenuous about?

Take health care reform. he sung a very different song when he was on CNN than he does at Fox. He is clearly one who changes his views to suit the audience he's trying to appease. That is being disingenuous by definition.

How did he change his views on health care reform? And....he has a different audience?

You made a broad comparative judgement between modern political satirists and a great American author, and I questioned your qualifications to make that judgement. If you feel unfairly 'attacked' then step up, list your qualifications and articulate your opinion with something more than icons.

You can't really compare mediums, but you can compare audiences and their influence on American society and culture. But to do that you have to not only know Twain's work, but how people perceived his work throughout his career.

Bill maher is a liberal.

And, your point?

But let's compare apples to apples..... Neither of those two are a limbaugh who markets himself too as an entertainer.

And, your point? Limbaugh has a substantial audience and he influences the opinions of those listening to them. Will future media-historians look back and see his influence as a positive benefit to society? Will people be quoting him in the next century and remember him as a great thinker, or will he become a modern Father Coughlin?

To further illustrate, Joseph McCarthy had a huge influence on his society as did Edward R. Murrow during the same time -- how do we see them today?

Do you realize how much you sound like Glenn Beck? The bolded part is exactly the reason for the creation of the 9/12 Movement. It's interesting how many similarities people have even though they're on opposite sides of the political stream.

With respect to the context of my full comment, I was referring to people's feelings about the current status and direction of the conversations and rhetoric going on in politics and in the media right now.

Claiming racism, claiming Communism, claiming Muslim "victory mosques", claiming this person or that person is intentionally seeking to destroy America, etc... do these things sound like civil and productive conversations to you?

Like Jon Stewart said, let's take it down a notch -- for America.

Colbert's actions on The Hill served to illustrate and underscore how far gone the left is... and it probably doesn't register much with most leftists in the nation... but is sure does with the right.

This was epic... for all the wrong reasons.

Their little get together two days before the election... just became more of an irritant, only adds fuel to the fire of those fed up with how this country is being degraded by the leftists.

Bring... it... on... Colbert and Liebowitz (aka Stewart)... and thank you very much for the get out the vote rally for those sick of the elites in DC.

.

Oh? Is there a reason the name matters to you?

It's his real name.

I see no reason why we can't use it, just as i see no reason we cannot call the President by the name he himself used... Barack Hussein Obama.

Can you tell me why we can't use it? In either instance?

Interesting... the name bothers you... how about their assisting with the Dems defeat? ROTFLOL?
Nice to see Dems accepting their demise thanks to the Obama, Pelosi, Reid... and folks like Liebowitz and Colbert.

That's what I was thinking while watching it. Satire is fun at the appropriate times. Otherwise, it's disrespectful and might have a negative effect. Of course Pelosi said Colbert's stunt was "appropriate".

Ah, good ol' Antisemitism...

We read your bigotry loud and clear.

:bravo:

Hmmm, but isn't Colbert a right wing pundit conservative? He dresses like one.

Jealous?

That doesn't say he legally changed his name though. Unless you could find it for me in the fine print.

Who is saying he changed it legally or didn't change it legally? The point was....that's his real name.
