It's Official Jon Stewart & Colbert will host a rally on October 30th in DC

They are probably smarter then anyone at any of the 24/7 News Channels. Scratch that, not probably, definitly.

Whatever. Only a fanboy would think of this. It will simply be a fun rally. I would watch it, it seems like a blast, but you can't fall into that trap of somehow thinking tahat that crowd is automatically smarter. There are plenty of idiots out there.

In justifying the need for this rally Stewart put a heavy emphasis on Code Pink and similar groups/rallies. This isn't an anti-teaparty rally, this is an anti-over the top statements rally.

By making over-the-top, sarcasm-filled statements? :lamo

It's CLEARLY an anti-tea party, anti-Beck rally. They look pretty foolish attempting to counter Beck's rally when it was nothing but good music, inspirational speakers and honoring those who do good things for our country.

I think it's a bad idea to allow signs, Stewart and Colbert........

It never ceases to amaze me how seemingly smart people use the Comedy Channel as their news source.

Or television in general, for that matter.

Agree. Personally like both Stewart and Colbert. They are funny and genuinely do generate some thought provoking points. But they need to be viewed for what they are. Comedians....

Most people do see them as Comedians. Although sometimes they get too much credit, but they are two of the smarter comedians on TV.

Damn that event. Every few hours it will reappear on my news feed. X and 60 other friends are attending....
I think if you RSVP to it the event will stop showing up.

I wish. I first hit accept to try that. Still always show up.
Hmm. I think there used to be a way to remove it from your events entirely.

I think there will be a few problems with this event....

1. They announced it only one month before the event. That's not enough time for some people to get off work, change plans, save up money to get a plane or bus ticket, etc.

2. They're having it on October 30? College kids (that's a large chunk of their audience, I assume) are back in school, younger kids are all back to school so their parents probably won't be able to come...

3. People are going to bring signs. And at any event with signs, the craziest ones are what gets reported on.

Does anyone know if alcohol is allowed?

It's really sad how people attack comedians like Stewart, Colbert and Beck for making rallies.

I think it's great that they're having their own rally. More power to them.

I am stoked these guys are having a rally... it will be a good reminder to the right and Reagan Democrats the ideology we are out to defeat.

Absolutely Perfect timing!

So I gather you will be attending the fear rally and not the reasonableness rally, correct?

Oh yes! Just do it.

Bring out the Stars of Sanity too... ROTFLMFAO... Pelosi, Reid, Gore, Durbin, Rangel, Waters, Kucinich, Conyers, Frank, Harkin, Waxman... Team Wrecking Ball...

Rally to Restore Sanity... ROTFLOL...

.

OK, but only if they can debate real policy (not just sound bites) with all the other right wingers.... Beck, O'Reilly, Sarah, Hannity, Krauthammer, etc.

ricksfolly

The fun will be how few people show up, and how high the CBS "professional out side group" estimates the crowd to be.

The real fun will be seeing Fox News "entertainers" focusing on how fewer people showed up to this event than the Beck rally, even though people only have a month to make plans and there are a good deal of people who want to go but can't afford it... such as myself.

I'm also waiting to see if Fox News will hypocritically show only the nutty attendees at this rally, as they have criticized the media for using that tactic with the Tea Party.

I'm also going to guess they will focus on how this event will mainly be college aged people.

We'll see :)

70,000 people confirmed attending and counting. And in only 3 days. Dang, I wonder how many people will end up showing up.

This comment makes me think you don't know what the Daily Show and the Colbert Report are all about. Jon Stewart spends a good amount of time pointing out the ridiculous things that happen in the world and in the media, and Colbert uses sarcasm to make fun of the same types of things. These two are perfect for this kind of rally. And they wont pick speakers just because they are liberals or Democrats. They will pick people who are level headed and intelligent.

I would really, really like to go to this. Unfortunately, it's about 10 hours away.

Yeah, those damned reasonable-ers. They must be stopped.

edit: Also, do people not understand that Stewart and Colbert poke fun of the Obama administration, democrats in general, and MSNBC/CNN all the time?

(CNN especially gets smacked around all the time, and they sure deserve it)

Unfortunately, our apathy may bite us in the ass this Nov. I want more moderate right of center GOPs getting into office, I think we need more balance to force fiscal responsibility--Don't spend it, unless you can pay for it.

Agreed 100%. The extremists are a minority, but they are actively getting out the vote such as in O'Donnells election in Delaware. If the majority of voters, especially moderate voters, continue to sit on the sidelines, then our elections will be determined by a radical minority.

BTW, I plan on going. http://www.rallytorestoresanity.com/
