It's Official Jon Stewart & Colbert will host a rally on October 30th in DC

Yeah, but this one has the best message of them all "America, take it down a notch"

Damned straight.

the one to attend is
Keep Fear Alive

be afraid, be very afraid. America, home of the scared

I agree it is a good message, but it feel like we just got over the Beck rally and now we have to deal with this one.

Pffft I'm going to the Fear rally and you damn well better be scared, scared ****less.

Musical Act Suggestions for both rallies:

"Restore Sanity" - Green Day, Ozzy

"Keep Fear Alive" - blow the dust off Alice Cooper or Snoop-Dog

Special Appearances:

"Restore Sanity" - Robin Williams, Lewis Black

"Keep Fear Alive" - I miss George Carlin... Who's the guy on SNL who does Beck? Show a video narrated by John Malkovich.

I will be in attendance; like HELL YEA!!! I'm taking the train up on Friday and returning on Sunday. If you want to get together you can contact me by PM and I'll give you my email address.

If it wasn't on the 30th I would think about going down, but given this will be my last Halloween in college hell no.

If you're close to DC, then half your college is going to be there anyway, why not?

ROAD TRIP!!

Boston is a pretty good distance from DC. And the road trip sucks. I did it when BU played for the National Championship for Hockey in DC.

Somehow I doubt they are going to draw much of a crowd and you can count on anyone who would actually has got to have a screw loose, both of these guys are stone idiots.

The point that Stewart made is that the fringe(left and right) too often dominates the discussion. 50% of the threads here prove that.

I think his point was more about rhetoric than policy positions. "Fringe" is often an arbitrary definition for many with short memories with no idea where to consider "moderate", or relatively strong positions versus those absolutists.

I wish pundits would stop using the national hall for their media hype stupidity. I think of all the civil rights movements and real protests that have taken place there and it's just dishonouring them all. I get what Stewart is doing but it's so tit for tat that I can't take it seriously.

You aren't exactly supposed to take it seriously, which is odd. We are supposed to elevate our political discussions beyond childish rhetoric and oversimplification, but that message is being delivered by those who use childish rhetoric and oversimplification to make people laugh at the same time they do not want us to take them seriously because it ruins their message.

I'll take them much more seriously than Beck and Palin. Stewart and Colbert actually speak with rational ideas. Hell, Beck and Palin are more entertainment than Stewart and Colbert! They arent people to be taken seriously unless youre a lazy arm chair politician that doesnt think for yourlself politically.

Well, you have to take Beck more seriously than Stewart and Colbert because of the level of self-awareness of being a circus clown is not there for him. Palin by virtue of her political credentials gives her much more of a serious tone than Beck. I do not consider myself in the populist wing to really like Palin or Beck, but they are serious contributors, Palin much more so.

Only if you GIVE them those credentials, which I do not. I give the Mayor of Chicago a billion times more respect than Palin. The woman is a joke to me. Beck is a shock-jock and nothing more.

She was close to being the Vice President, and she was a former Governor. I do not really enjoy the woman, but I give credit where credit is due. With Beck, I agree he is a shock-jock, but he's a self-assured and powerful shock-jock.

You know - when these rallies are held - do people travel to go to them or are they just a lot of locals from within a driving-distance radius?

I can't imagine how people can afford to drive cross-country to attend such things in these bad economic times. . . it's always been a source of curiosity for me.

think of it as a nascar event - without the race
a reason to party
for much of the eastern seaboard, this could be a one-day activity (a long single day)

For the 8/28 rally, people came from all over the country and even out of the country. I don't really feel the effects of the economic times at all, so I'm sure there are others out there like me.

Will they come to this one? Not sure. It's just a gathering to make fun of Glenn Beck and tea parties, right? I suppose some people would drive across the country to see that.....

They are probably smarter then anyone at any of the 24/7 News Channels. Scratch that, not probably, definitly.

So uhm where were they when the tards at the anti-war protests were all shouty?

Snotty leftism at it hypocritical finest.

In justifying the need for this rally Stewart put a heavy emphasis on Code Pink and similar groups/rallies. This isn't an anti-teaparty rally, this is an anti-over the top statements rally.

The fun will be how few people show up, and how high the CBS "professional out side group" estimates the crowd to be.

I already know lots of people going (me being near the DC area).

.

At least to this point, it seems like a lot of effort is being made just to ridicule the people at the earlier Beck rally. (agree with them or not, believe those folks at the 8/28 event were genuine in their passion)

Will be interesting to see what content Stewart and Colbert present at their scheduled march/rally.....:thinking
