Reid adds controversial immigration measure to defense bill

Im not.

Wonderful, as I said, generally.

Generally blacks vote democrat. Does that mean every black votes democrat?

Generally southerners are considered more Republican. Does that mean everyone in the south is Republican?

i agree with you, but the measure seems like a good one.

Actually, it's not.

What the DREAM Act appears to advocate is that if, as an illegal resident alien, you can remain in the U.S. for upwards of 6 yrs as long as you complete high school and subsequently go on to graduate college. This effectively would give illegal resident aliens direct access to what could eventually become a "free" education or one at a significant reduced cost. Why? For someone who may or may not remain here?

There's already a provision in Immigration and Nationalization (INA) law that provides a path whereby illegal aliens can become nationalized by virtue of serving in our nation's military (setion 1439 applies). I don't see a need to allow them access to our education system as another "path" to citizenship, at least not this way. They can apply for student VISAs like everyone else. If as a legislator you've identified a problem with this portion of INA law, you address that problem when immigration reform comes before the House or the Senate, but you don't try to tack a provision that deals with the issue of immigration reform onto a defense bill. That's just wrong!!

Reid is so hard up for votes in November that he must insert a measure like this into an unrelated bill in order to try to garner hispanic support in Nevada. Like any self serving scumbag, he fails to see that he is only empowering those who oppose illegal immigration in Nevada, many of whom are also of hispanic descent. Just count down the number of days before this scoundrel is voted out of office. 50-49-48...

Then again, we have a President who told the Hispanic Caucus last night that he "faught hard to get children of illegal immigrants health care" so I mean, really, why not continue to pander to people violating our laws to assure themselves votes

Weird its like they REPRESENT THEM or something.

Ridiculous.

Now I hope the defense bill fails and then the Dem's stop playing politics by putting large, highly controversial bills attached to it.

Hmmmm....I just read the entire speech....doesn't say anything like that. You can read it for yourself here.
