Glenn Beck Rally Sparks Debate Over Crowd Size

Who the **** cares how many people were there?

I don't. I care about the message.

It wasn't particularly memorable or historical.

Return to God.

Support the Troops.

Whoopdee****ing doo never heard that one before.

Not a bad message don't get me wrong. Just not particularly new.

Yep Glenn, in every way you "reclaimed the civil rights movement"

Agreed. I feel terrible for all those people who drove through the night to be there. Maybe they won't say it out loud, but I bet a lot of them were wishing they stayed home. I feel worse for the kids that were dragged through 2 states.

Worst of all, the regular end of the summer tourists who just wanted to see DC. Must have been hell trying to ride the metro. Good luck getting in the Smithsonian later in the day after the crowd broke up. You dump 87,000 people into the center of the city, good luck trying to get around.

Wasn't Beck complaining earlier in the summer about not getting his permit for the event? I would call him an appropriate name, but then I'd be accused of being hateful or intolerant. Someone who misleads his audience into believing an event was going to be important and meaningful, gets them to spend their time and money to be there... Then only comes up with a vague, somewhat bland message -- one that is very contrary to his stance on the Islamic Cultural Center. I see people being taken advantage of, being mislead by a TV personality... It's disturbing.

Well I wouldn't say that.

My problem is this: I don't think Mr. King spent weeks before that Rally claiming, Oh this will be historic this, and historic that. If I'm correct in my knowledge of history, I'm not sure if he even planned to make the I have a dream speech that day, he had done it at functions before.

It really was a powerful, powerful speech. One that has been burned into the worlds memory forever... because people were truly in trouble, folks were being lynched and beaten and discriminated against.

And for Beck to, in the remotest terms compare his rally to that, is kind of retarded.

But he didn't really say anything inflammatory, there was no taking a shot at others that I saw.

But I feel alot of it is disengenious that's all.

Agreed.

And I can only hope that his fans who made the trip across several states only to hear a simpleminded 'feel-good' message -- hopefully they're starting to see through him.

Still sticking to that 87,000 lie... How pathetic.

No -- I'm actually waiting for you to refute the CBS expert estimate with something more than: "I looked at these photos and..."

If you got something, let's hear it.
:waiting:

Considering that the size of the crowd does not make his words any more or less true, I think this is something stupid to fight over.

If you're going to play numbers games, you should guess how many people weren't there, but wanted to be.
You also have to factor in all the people who would have come but for the fact that they were dead or in gestation. Also, don't forget to add in the number of people who wanted to come but didn't know it. You could probably include people from other countries in that total, because if they were Gawd-fearin' Americuns they would have been at the rally.

The seating area of Michigan Stadium is approximately the same, though slightly bigger, than the grassy area in the circle around the Lincoln Memorial.

From where are you hearing these moving stories? Was it from MSNBC, NBC or CNN radio? How were these people moved? Weren't they already religious before they arrived?

No, it wasn't a Tea Party rally and it wasn't advertised as so. It was advertised as recognizing the troops, not a religious revival meeting from a man who claimed to have a vision. There are elements of religious belief in some members of the Tea Party, but definitely not all. I only know what I saw. Admittedly it was hot and not a great day to listen to speeches, particuliarly rambling ones and that may have effected the reaction. But I heard most of the speech and I did not find it all that simulating.

I didn't catch all of the event, but I saw bits and pieces of Becks rally and Sharpton's on C-SPAN and CNN off and on throughout the day, and frankly I didn't see what all the hoopla was all about. I mean, what about America needed to be restored? How has this country changed that much in 2 years other than we're in an economic funk right now? What honor has been lost during this Presidency because clearly if people have been paying attention to media coverage outside our coastal boarders they'd notice that many world leaders have more respect for this country now than they had 3-4 years ago. (See linked article, "America's Image in the World", on how other countries view the U.S. before 2008. See linked article, "World Warming to America Since Obama's Election, Poll Shows," since 2008.)

So, I'm wondering what has changed? What about our American way of life needed to be "restored" not only in the mind of Glen Beck but in those who honestly believe our values or rights have been lost?

If anything, I'd say alot of people have lost their freakin' minds, i.e., the natural-born citizen debate, the President's religious preference, arguing over the prudence of the bailouts, the outlandish claims made against healthcare reform, the issues surrounding the handling of the BP oil spill (i.e., the gov't's response time and/or holding BP's feet to the fire), etc., etc., etc., but I really don't see where the rights of American citizens or American's honor has been any more diminished now than they were prior to January 20, 2008. Domestically, people are clearly hurting due to the economic downturn, and as to be expected many people disagree with President Obama's policies, but internationally our image has improved around the world.

Dan Rather had experts too, hows his career doing again?

There was a BUNCH of people there!

you never disappoint.

What? We're talking CBS news here. The same folks that were behind the death of Rather's career because they are so blatantly biased. And since they are the only ones pushing 5 digit appraisals of how many are there... well.

Gee, ya think maybe you should question it? Oh no, wait, you're a liberal... you don't question what you are TOLD to repeat.

I don't think CBS is pussing anything.

When you got some new numbers from another source, pls let us know.
