Actually the NRA commended the EPA on its decision to not entertain the petition.

Alternatives to Lead Bullets
Where's your right to cheap toxic ammo?
Let's see. steal bullet fired from .357 mag. Completely penetrates chest of home invader and kills 3 adults and one child after penetrating completely through 5 houses, home invader suffers major wound and kills home owner before he dies.
Lead bullet fired from .357 Mag. Stops in chest of home invader and knocks him on his ass 10 ft from where he was standing, dead at impact.
Which bullet do you think is better?
And I was waiting for some left wing jerk to pop on and poo-poo the fact that backdoor regulation can potentially impair the ability to exercise an important right.... I wasn't disappointed.
What the hell..why?
Maybe I'm being too much of a conspiracy theorist, but it seems like this could be used as a method to deliberately make ammunition more cost prohibitive. Can't control guns so just jack up the price of bullets based on "safety'.

As already stated, waterfowl ingest the spent shot and get lead poisoning. Millions dies before lead shot was banned in areas that waterfowl congregate in. I wrote a paper on the problem in 1971.
I hope you have proof.
Lead shot sinks to the bottom in water.
Uhh, that's the whole point. It sinks to the bottom where the ducks get their food.
I need to see how "millions died" from lead poisoning.
That sounds like a huge stretch
Total Breeding Duck Population Estimates
Just by looking at this chart is shows that the population varies and that there hasn't been a significant depletion of ducks, to require such a ban.

To compare fragmentation between a premium bonded bullet and a non-lead alternative, bullets were fired into ballistic gelatin at 50 yards.
The ballistic gelatin was radiographed. Penetration depth was then measured, and bullets were retrieved and weighed.
The non-lead bullets showed very little to no fragmentation and deeper penetration, while the lead bullets left trails of fragments throughout the gel and didn't travel as far.
