Birthers Move Over and Make Way for Thirteenthers

This is about as fringy as it gets, but I'm sure there are those who will claim it represents the Republicans as a whole, and no doubt the whole Tea Party movement.

This is little different from the morons who want to remove the term limit set for the President so that Obama can be in office for good.

Indeed.

Oh god, don't tell my uncle that their's people out there wanting Obama to become a perpetual president. He warned me for months before and after the election that if he one we'd never get him out of office, lol.

The funny thing is, I haven't heard any one argue that, but I really don't need to research it to know that there's people out there that are stupid enough that they would want to end presidential term limits.

Right. Now I get it. You are trying to blame liberals for pointing out the lunacy of the right. Here's a newsflash for you: If they weren't so ****ing looney, there wouldn't be any reason to point it out. Now, quit being a net nanny. If you don't like my thread, then don't post in it. Problem solved.

Now, I'm sure if I were to peruse all the threads started by those on the right, they would all meet your high standard for what constitutes political discourse, correct?

And BTW, look at the ****ing forum I posted this in.

Do you ever look for articles about crazies on the left? I fail to see the difference between this article and a rant taken from a mad man in an insane assylum. Both sides have their crazy, idiotic ideas; surely, you must see that.

I mean, just think of all the liberals who said Bush bombed the WTC--not bloody likely.

So, does that mean this is an "off limits" topic simply because Code Pink exists?

You're free to post a thread about that. This one is about people who want Obama stripped of his Presidency and/or his citizenship.

Then post a thread about it.

I had never heard of this before today, but the thirteenthers are an amazing new addition to anti-Obama crazies, following in the footsteps of the birthers. Iowa Republicans are trying to ratify the original 13th Amendment:

The idea being that, since Obama received the Nobel Peace Prize, he would be ineligible to be President of the United States if this amendment ever passed. (Ronald Reagan was knighted, but that came after the presidency. And even if he was still in office, it would probably be okay with Iowa Republicans because, you know, Ronald Reagan.) How come Democrats didn't get this creative from 2000 to 2008? We just went to Michael Moore movies all the time.

I think the GOP should make this part of their national platform.

Where is this Iowa you speak of?

I fail to see the difference between this article and a rant taken from a mad man in an insane assylum.

The difference is that this is an official party platform of the Iowa Republican Party, not just some guy in a padded room.
Iowa GOP jumps on the ‘Thirteenther’ bandwagon « Iowa Independent

Imagine that some crazy guy in an insane asylum claimed that underwear gnomes were stealing his underwear out of the dryer. I don't think that's really important, right? There probably wouldn't be a thread about it here, right? Now imagine that Barack Obama said the same thing. I think it would probably be frontline news on every media outlet that the president is crazy.

You don't think that part of a major political party putting something on it's platform that you would say yourself sounds like it's coming from an insane asylum is news?

Wait, let me get this straight, they want to remove the president from office on the basis of a law that was never passed? :lamo

Not only that but for receiving a prize designed for peaceful means or for conducting extraordinary acts science and humantarianism that help move the global society forward that doesn't carry a "title of nobility" with it. We're not talking about being knighted or declared a Duke or Prince heir to some throne here. We're talking about someone who has received the Nobel Peace prize (after the fact, mind you)...BIG difference. :doh

Birthers...Truthers...Tea Partiers...now 13ners...(Although I contend that the Tea Party has a far better chance of being legitimized than the remaining three. Still...)

Give me a freakin' break!

I shall respond in a correct and appropriate manner.

These people are whacked. They should instead focus on the 10+ percent unemployment...4 trillion dollars the adminsitration ahs added to the deficit...democrats raisng the debt ceiling to 15 trillion, major cities like Detroit in utter ruin, a complete lack of leadership on everythign from spending, to the war to illegal immigration enforcement. Adoption of the Bush policies on ant-terrorism...denying terrorists their constitutional rights...opening a GITMO in Afghanistan. Their ridiculous platform takes away from the OBVIOUS MASSIVE FAILINGS of the current adminstration and lends nothing to correct political discourse.

Thanks for pointing that out!

You know, I thought this was a joke, but I checked the Republican Platform of Iowa, and sure enough:

7.19 We call for the reintroduction and ratification of the original 13th Amendment, not the 13th Amendment in today’s Constitution.

Interesting. I didn't realize that it was 'official'. I was just thinking it was a small group of nutjob-nobodies, hence my reaction to this thread earlier.

I think the GOP should make this part of their national platform.

They would also have to amend Article I, section 9, clause 3.

No Bill of Attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.

The Constitution is your friend..... read it.

I think the GOP should make this part of their national platform.

It would be an ex post fact law, so it wouldn't apply anyway.

Not so clear with a Constitutional amendment.

Like I said.... they would have to change 1,9,3 before they could apply it to Barry's peace prize.

I think it would still apply, that and the Nobel prize isn't a title of nobility.

Like birthers and truthers and "dualers", these guys are not what you would call bright.

I agree that it's not a title of nobility, but when you amend the Constitution, you're not restricted by the Constitution. Anything previous which conflicts with it is considered amended.

Do you mean they are confusing, "Noble" and "Nobel?"

Absolutely!

I'm sure someone else has already posted the definition of "noble", but for the record:

noble
- adj.: 1. Of or pertaining to an aristocracy; of lofty lineage.
- n.: 3. Imposing in appearance; grand. A person having hereditary title, rank and privileges.

I ask the question, "How does accepting the Nobel Peace Prize impose a hereditary or aristocratic title upon an individual?" It's a prize awarded to individuals for their personal achievements toward the greater good for society and DOES NOT bestow upon the receiptant a position of authority, i.e., Lord, Duke, Dutchess, Prince, Princess, King, or Queen.

I did a search to try and find out how the original 13th Amendment read and this is what I found:

From Syracuse.com

Part of the original 13th amendment of the Constitution reads, “If any citizen of the United States shall accept, claim, receive or retain any title of nobility or honor, or shall, without the consent of Congress accept and retain any present, pension, office or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor, king, prince or foreign power, such person shall cease to be a citizen of the United States and shall be incapable of holding any office of trust or profit under them, or either of them."

The interesting thing here is the Nobel Peace Prize isn't awarded by a specific nation. It is awarded by the Norwegian Nobel Committee under the auspices of the Nobel Foundation in Stockholm, Sweden. So, it's not as if the Swedish or Norwegian Parliament are administering the award. To put it another way, it's not as if Queen Elizabeth has Knighted President Obama. If that were the case, he couldn't accept said knighthood under the original 13th Amendement w/o obtaining Congressional approval first. In the case of the Nobel Peace Prize, it's a non-issue because the award isn't awarded by any country's government persa.
