The other day a poster assure me that these rigs weren't going anywhere and I was frettin' for nothing. I can't remember who it was, but I wonder what that Liberal poster has to say now? The Libbo Democrats can't get voted out soon enough for my liking.

WASHINGTON — Diamond Offshore announced Friday that its Ocean Endeavor drilling rig will leave the Gulf of Mexico and move to Egyptian waters immediately — making it the first to abandon the United States in the wake of the BP oil spill and a ban on deep-water drilling.

zomg this will lead to the end of America!!!!

Epic fail

The drilling ban does not exist anymore

The more the merrier.

With all due respect sir the oil industry provides about 50,000 jobs in my state alone. So keep your canadian comments to yourself. It's not your state or country or even problem. We'll deal with it, thanks.

The legal battle exists and that causes too much uncertainty for oil companies to drop millions of dollars on a well that they might have to abandon, before iut produces any profit.

The failure is on your part, sir.

It'll be the end of Obama's career and that's a good thing. It'll be the end of a ****load of American jobs. Are you glad about that?

Are you incapable of seeing any options in between "end of America" and "glad about people being jobless?"

Yeah, really.

When you find yourself in the bottom of a deep hole the first thing you need to do is stop digging.

Obama can't see the forest from the trees, that's for sure.

Thank God for dumbass Libbos like Bill Maher. He says the stupid **** that Obama is too politically impeded to say. Maher will only destroy the Liberal movement. It will be a great day for America when that happens.

I was playing on your sarcasm. Aren't you an Obama supporting, job creating for the betterment of the country kinda guy? Were you this sarcastic when Obama was talking about spending billions of tax payer dollars to create 5 jobs, because...uh...it's going to keep the country strong? I bet you weren't such a smartass when all those UAW jobs were on the line.

The video is so true though. We need to stop using fossil fuels while we still can.

You do realize that more jobs means more tax revenue, which means that Obama has more money to piss away on entitelment programs?

And, stop using fossil fuels? That don't make no sense.

Tell ya what, look around your house and count up all the things that are made out of plastic.

Oh - so we're losing our 'chance' to stop using fossil fuels?
The development and growth in use of solar, wind and water sources is only getting bigger and more prevalent - it's slow but expanding.

If we just chop off our fossil-fuel use we'll be belly up. Any change such as a fuel-source takes time to actually root properly without upending everything. You can't just hack it off like a dead branch.

This oil spill, by the way, is Obama's Overton Window - he's using it as his golden opportunity to get done what he wanted. Without the spill going on and without people being stirred and demanding action he wouldn't have such an easy job of gathering support.

Get different jobs. Jobs that don't impact the environment the way oil drilling does.

And yes it does make sense. The damage to the environment will continue to mount, and we will run out of fossil fuels within this generations lifespan or the next. We need to be focusing on inventing, and refining renewable, environmentally friendly ways to provide the energy, and products produced by fossil fuels. I don't expect us to not have to rely on fossil fuels anytime soon. But in the next 10-15 years we better have a plan in place for implementing a better way to provide us with our energy needs.

I'm not suggesting stopping the use of fossil fuels cold turkey. But I'm saying that this incident should raise awareness that there are better ways to provide for our energy needs, and we need to push for more research, and refinement on those technologies, and resources.

What jobs - where!!!
*looks for a job*
Where on EARTH have you been for the last - oh - THREE YEARS.

THERE ARE NO JOBS.

Obama hasn't fixed that MAJOR problem yet - we're still skyhigh with unemployment. They're debating a bill about extending unemployment benefits, for pete's sake, because there ARE NO JOBS!

Like what? Shrimping? Oystering? Crabbing? :rofl!!!

Perhaps I can get a job choppin' cotton, like my ancestors on the plantation. Yes?? :rofl

With an unemployment rate at 10%, you make it sound as if there are employers just standing in line to give all those unemployed oilfield hands a new job. Where are all those super-duper green jobs? Are they ready for people to start monday morning?

When you say:
We need to stop using fossil fuels while we still can.
That does not imply "slowly over time so we can properly shift our resources and slowly control the change"

You support killing a couple hundred thousand oilfield jobs in less than a year. That sounds like cold turkey, to me.

Yeah, holy crap.
In an argument about getting non-oil industry jobs we're actually discussing an area of the country that's just been **** on and ravaged of all other resources of food and employment.

There are no jobs, I know. But you know who can create jobs, the government. Have a government job program doing things that would benefit the country.

And what will people do?
What jobs will they create?

I've yet to hear a real solution to this problem . . . there obviously isn't one. I'm sure that if Obama could snap his fingers and create a lot of jobs for people to work he would have done it already.

And besides - I thought the states received millions in bailouts for "shovel ready jobs" - I guess that didn't come to fruition, but the money was sure gobbled up.
