Maher: Obama Not Acting Like A "Real Black" President

Yep - some people really take him as seriously as a news reporter, etc.

Well, when you get right down to it, "serious" reporters have (for the most part) made such a joke out of their profession that some of us take them about as seriously as we do Jon Stewart -- rather than the other way around.

I don't know anyone who believes The Daily Show is "the news". Not even on this board.

He's a comedian making his money from hoisting politicians, newsmakers and anyone else who garner's his attention, on their own petards, including liberals.

*facepalm* Now you're not getting it.

My point was that Maher is a comedian.
My point is that Jon Stewart is a comedian.
I don't take anything that they ever say or do *seriously* - because they're just comedians.

I was poking fun at (and making a truthful observation about) people who *do* take political comedians seriously, such as those people who love Jon Stewart's political satire and take it like it's serious fact. . . These other people *take* Jon Stewart seriously . . . and I noticed that some of those *same* people are trying to tell people who've been offended by Maher to *not* take Maher's comments seriously - as if there's a difference.

They both do the SAME thing in comedy - but we're not suppose to take one seriously while the other is a heavy-reve?

SEE the hypocrisy coming from some people?
It ain't coming from me, that's for damn sure.

.... you... you just don't get it. You really don't. You don't understand Stewart's show. Or Maher's, apparently. Maybe you should watch their shows for a few episodes. You might be able to pick out which parts are serious and which parts are not. Here's a hint: Try not to think in absolutes. Just because a man tells jokes doesn't mean nothing he says is valuable or accurate. Conservatives seem to make this mistake a lot, seeing the world in black and white.

I agree with this. Though I do think Jon Stewart's show is more of a comedy show than Maher's. If you watch Real Time while the monologue, and New Rules are very comedic. The main part of the show with the panel is actually quite serious, and some good discussions are held.

After several years of viewing the program I have a hard time believing that "some good discussions" were held. They are very adolescent at best.

Seeing as how that's most of his routine...

Yeah, which is why he gets the "trusted" label. His team is incredibly good at combing through a politician's past and finding them saying EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of what they are saying now. Or DOING exactly what they are attacking. The Daily Show isn't really a "news show." It's more of a "show about the news."

right, so. nappy headed hos and all that, right?

Hey, what is this I see posted here ??? Obama not Acting like a Black President ???
Well , it is kind of normal after all is said and done he is of mixed race.... Is he not ???

Is there a special code of honor and a way to act when you are a Black Person ???

it was a joke!

Did you see the light gray part of your link that has this blurb:

Note: Poll results are not scientific and reflect the opinions of only the users who chose to participate

About all we can gather from this poll reliably is that someone at Time magazine decided to include John Stewart in the poll options.

what happens to a poll once it hits the internet is notoriously inaccurate and easily skewed, a few tweets, text messages, or posts in forums is all it takes to get the ball rolling.. I would have voted John Stewart myself, knowing full well that he is absolutely NOT a newscaster, merely because his name was on the list.

Yes, but their "opinion" (of those involved) seems to be that John Stewart is a reliable newscaster.

I think what we can gather is that:

A) Respondents cannot read
B) Respondents think John Stewart is a reliable newscaster
C) Respondents have nothing better to do with their time than vote in polls without caring about the question

The only colored Presiedent? Who uses that term? :(

I think some have comedian confused with political satirist. Can you be both? Sure. Which is why people like Jon, Colbert and Bill are so popular.

Yes, but their "opinion" (of those involved) seems to be that John Stewart is a reliable newscaster

I would have opined the same thing, KNOWING he is NOT a newscaster.. it means nothing, and I would imagine many others would have and have done likewise (see conclusion D)

A) Respondents cannot read
B) Respondents think John Stewart is a reliable newscaster
C) Respondents have nothing better to do with their time than vote in polls without caring about the question

A - we cannot conclude this, obviously they can read enough to find their way around the internets.,

B - nope. there is no way to make this conclusion, the likelihood the results were stacked or the poll was fixed makes it impossible, this is where "non-scientific" comes in,

People will/would vote for him knowing for a certainty that he is not a newscaster (again see conclusion D)

C - this is reasonable but we really cannot conclude that for sure.. but this is likely, and it is indicative of the unreliability of the poll - (see conclusion D)

The assumption that people who watch the Daily Show confuse him for being a newscaster is completely absurd.

The only colored Presiedent? Who uses that term? :(

During the election in 2007 I heard that term all the time from reporters and the like - it's use is quite common though I was taught that it was offensive and I've never used it.

I always found it bizarre because white is a color too!

Would this change Maher's mind?

A couple of thoughts...

1-Bill Maher is a comedian with "**** you" money...which is to say he is well enough set that if you dont like it he has no problem saying "**** you"
2-There IS of course a tremendous double standard. If a conservative of any nature (politician, actor, comedian, or any other public figure) said "Obabma should act more black by ________" that person would be labelled a racist.
3-We have a tendency to take **** like this too seriously. He could have just as easily said "he needs to act more like a Guido..."hey...don do what I say and Ima trow you offa do roof...fuggedaboutit" and it wouldnt have rankled most of the people that are actually upset about the joke.
