Attorney General Tom Corbett Subpoenaes Twitter To Identify Anonymous Critics

Tom Corbett, current Attorney General of the state of Pennsylvania and Gubernatorial Candidate, has subpoenaed Twitter to appear as a Grand Jury witness to “testify and give evidence regarding alleged violations of the laws of Pennsylvania”.

The subpoena orders Twitter to provide “any and all subscriber information” of the person(s) behind two accounts – @bfbarbie and @CasaBlancaPA – who have been anonymously criticizing the man on the popular micro-sharing service.

Big Brother is watching you.

I don't know the circumstances of what these "anonymous critics" said about him, but it's petty and intimidating for an attorney general to subpoena his critics this way. Even if it was something libelous, political figures enjoy very little protection from libel...which I would hope that he knows since he's the attorney general.

Wow, just when you think you have heard about the stupidest thing a politician can do, some one tops it...

The AG is out of line and his subpoenas... and his career need to be quashed. I am offended that the AG would use his office to attack critics in this blatantley illegal fashion.

Good to know that my state has such great choices for governor this November.

There used to be a science fiction show that came on TV back in the 50's called Tom Corbett, Space Cadet. What a fitting name for the Attorney General.

Would you happen to have a copy of these so-called Pennsylvania laws these Twitter bloggers have supposedly violated, or would they be the made up variety by the Pa Attorney General's office? He must be trying to get a job in the Obama administration because this kind of talk normally comes out of the Oval Office.

Sorry, you'd have to ask my good friend Tom, because I have no idea where he got them either. Something tells me it's the same place most of his campaign promises come from.

What a galactically stupid abuse of power! I'd be interested in seeing why the judge granted such a BS subpoena.

If Twitter fights this this could get very interesting to see how far this "judge" pushes this.
