Don’t shoot: NRA bans guns from its annual meeting

The way I see this going down is if I walk in, tell the kids to grab their shoes, and go. If it's something like visitation then the kids sometimes, rarely, need help getting their coat and bag.

From walking up to the door to driving away is typically around 5 minutes or less. I hate the people my X hangs around. The totally wrong crowd. A bunch of 1%ers. I call her and let her know when I'm pulling up so that she can tell the kids I'm here. At that point it's all they can do to keep from falling over themselves to leave.

If I'm told not to enter, and then I enter anyway, that's my bad. If I invent delays, try to start fights, start braking ****, that's all on me. You have a right to defend your home. If it were my home and some armed asshole came in and started smashing the place up, I'd go for my weapon and 911. Lord help us all if that armed asshole hid a hand and started threatening to use a gun. I know what I would do, but bullets have a funny way of bouncing off of things, even bones. Not good in any situation, especially when children are present.

Dude, you should try to get primary custody. Sounds like you might have grounds; talk to a lawyer.

If every gun owner had that attitude we'd have no gun rights. If every gun owner joined the NRA and GOA or the second amendment foundation, Nancy Pelosi would be pushing for funds to build public shooting ranges and giving the public surplus ammo from LE agencies or the military

Not every gun owner agrees with all of the NRA's positions. You're just assuming that, say, owning a rifle for skeet-shooting means that someone shares the view that background checks, gun registries, mandatory trigger locks, and 30-day wait periods are a bad thing. There are plenty of gun owners like my father who don't view any of those things as infringements on their rights, and would never *want* to join an organization like the NRA.

yes there are deluded gun owners who think by allowing the scum in the brady bunch and the Dem party to ban "assault weapons" will somehow appease those turds and their skeet gun will be safe. There are also gun owners who don't want the poor, or blacks or Jews, or hispanics etc owning guns

anyone in favor of a thirty day waiting period is probably too stupid to own a gun.

The fact is almost all the laws the dems promote and the NRA opposes have no use in making anyone safer but are designed to incrementally eliminate gun ownership

A rifle for skeet shooting?

A rifle for skeet shooting?

I saw Olympic Gold Medalist (84) and world champion Matt Dryke -USAMU-shoot skeet with a 22 rifle at one of the olympic trials but he was shooting low seven and most of us who were Master class could hit that target with a 22.

He hit more than he missed on a full round--that guy had more talent than anyone I ever shot against--(I retired before 08 Gold Medalist Vince Hancock showed up)

What can I say, I don't shoot guns very often here in DC.

too bad-that is what one would consider a target rich environment. :rofl

A rifle for skeet shooting?

When I was a kid, I saw an episode of the Beverly Hillbillies in which Jed Clampett was 100% accurate with a rifle in shooting skeet. Maybe he should have been spokesman for the NRA instead of Charlton Heston?

Yeah and John Wayne killed half the Souix nation with two six shooters--he only reloaded twice and missed three times.

I've got no guns and I've only shot a rifle a few times. I live in a low-crime area, have little interest in hunting, and I'm not too worried about an imminent need for a citizen uprising, but if anyone else wants a gun, none of my business.

Although if the zombies finally come, I'm screwed.

Am I the only pro-gun guy here that just has a basic self defense pistol?

Nothing wrong with that, but I'm not sure what it has to do with anything?

I have a couple of pistols, a couple of rifles, a couple of shotguns, a couple of collector guns... if it's worth having, it usually worth having two of.

I don't have an arsenal. I know people who have arsenals, and I don't qual.

1. I live in New York, getting this pistol was a pain in the ass. They ask what race you are on the application for christ sake!

2. Cost

3. I also have three dogs.

If the place where their meeting is being held has banned guns from the premise. And the NRA - a strong pro-gun group - has specifically chosen that location to hold their meeting at. Isn't the NRA agreeing to ban guns from their meeting? I mean why hold it there if they want people who carry guns to go there?

Ah. I live in South Carolina.

1. When you move here, if you don't have a gun, they give you a shotgun and a deer rifle. You have to buy your own pistols, sorry.

2. Paperwork consists of "sign here" and costs nothing.

3. I have two dogs.

maybe they didn't know when they booked the place

You're being far too naive for character.
Actually as already noted in thread, the NRA knew what they were doing when they booked the event and their law abiding members had no problem with obeying the stipulations. All of them are already familiar with adherence to the law and only in internetz land does their choice to hold their convention at a public facility that does not allow guns on premises, rate on the scandal meter. In fact, I suspect that the desire to be able to have open bars and adult beverages on hand for a "convention" had more to do with the matter than anything else.

BTW- This is hardly the first time a NRA convention was held at a convention facility where firearms were prohibited; most of those types of facilities in the United States have the same limitations. Must have been a really slow news day.............
