While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "Work-

Re: While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "W

Partisan thinking, not seem to be lacking apparently.

It's not partisan at all --- it's common sense as I already stated. Let me make it simpler to understand: If your house is being flooded with water because your pipes burst, you don't still take the day long ride in the country because it was "planned". Get it yet?

Re: While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "W

I'm starting to question if Obama really does want to help the gulf states. Him and his administration are handling this (and the Nashville floods) in a horrible manner. Can Nashvillians say Obama hates white people? (Nashville still has a high black population btw). I don't see Obama visiting my city or the gulf states. He isn't doing much about anything, and now we see his underlings in charge of this are on vacation. What a moronic administration :doh

Re: While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "W

Yeah, government officials do things that normal Americans do.

God, that's so wrong ...

Would you go on vacation when your house is on fire?

I got a better one. Say you paid for non-refundible tickets for a vacation, and you notice a leaky pipe in your basement just before you leave. You call your neighbour, explain the situation, and ask them to check it every so often and empty the bucket. You then give them your cell number, and tell them to call you should it get worse.

Get it yet or do I have to draw pictures?

I think we found Obama's Michael “Heckuva job, Brownie” Brown.. :ssst:

I think he needs to be held accountable, Just as Brown was. No excuse for crap like this. Who the **** does he think he is? Our master? NO. He is our servant. Think of America as a mansion owned by a millionaire called "We the People". When the servants refuse to know their place, it is time to fire them.

BTW, I think some Liberal outrage here would be appropriate too.

NO, I wouldn't. I would repair it BEFORE I left or I wouldn't go.

What's even more shocking is that this guy was also an assistant secretary at U.S. Fish & Wildlife. First of all, how does one guy do two jobs... and second, did he not think that fish and wildlife were in danger from this oil spill???

I'd take the hit. Most times airlines will charge a fee to take another flight and ven if not plumbing problems can cost a heck of a lot more

This isn't even close to the Brownie incident. In Katrina it was obvious what was needed and not done.

But in this incident , does anyone really have a clue what to do? The current plan to drop a steel and conrete box over the top of the leak reminds something the coyote would try to capture the Roadrunner with. Hopefully it will but the damage is already done that will takes decades of cleaning.
Perhaps the government needs to force the oil companies to put money in developing equipment that could be used to suck up the oil from water that could be employed by numerous boats. This won't be the last accident from offshore oil wells or ruptured tankers.
As to where is the Liberal outrage, where are the right wingers who were claiming this was a minor incident and those excited about it were your typical global warming nuts.

Are you serious??? Contingency plans, laws, and cleanup funds were planned right after the Exxon Valdez spill and that was almost 20 years ago.

The U.S. Coast Guard is responsible for coordinating all spill clean-ups in American waters. Where were they?? Where was the needed equipment ??

The requirements of this emergency should have been immediately apparent to all concerned, the Coast Guard, BP, EPA, USFWS, Interior Dept., and Homeland Security.

Not even close... draw the picture. Try to keep the BS off it, though I know it'll be difficult.

Exactly --- apparently the non-refundable ticket is a helluva lot more important than tens of thousands of people's lives being impacted, an entire ecology being killed off and millions of dollars of damage being done every day.

Let's keep that refundable ticket going dear... we can't lose a thousands dollars just because my job with the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT is being impacted and it's MY RESPONSIBILITY. Rafting is FUN. :rofl

I don't know if my hip-waders are high enough for this apologist BS story.

Re: While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "W

I haven't posted here in quite a long time, but this one is so absurd I have to say something:

The chief of staff of the Interior Department isn't like the Chief of Staff of the Army. The heads of the Interior Department are the Secretary of the Interior and their undersecretaries. The Interior Department is run by a secretariat (as are the other departments of government).

The Chief of Staff of the Interior is roughly akin to the HR manager in a corporation. He has no operational weight; this is a person whose job is to serve as a liason between individual employees and the company on matters such as pay, benefits, work hours, and so on, as well as to vet potential hires in important positions. The Chief of Staff of the Interior Department doesn't relay orders or serve in the chain of command. Ken Salazaar is the lead guy, and he relays orders through the undersecretaries of (for instance) the Bureau of Indian affairs, the Bureau of Land Reclamation, and other such.

No doubt, during the oil spill, plenty of people were taking a vacation or doing something non-oil-spill related.

During Katrina, the National Security Advisor and future Secretary of State was buying shoes on Madison Avenue. The President was playing guitar and having birthday cake. The Vice President was apparently in his lair of evil plotting the murder of foreign dignitaries. The head of FEMA was betting on horse races. And so on.

The best you guys can come up with is an HR guy on a rafting trip. HUGE difference--even if he is the head HR guy.

Well, that's because you care. If you really didn't give a **** one way or the other you might still go. And I think that's exactly what happened here... he and his Dept. and the WH didn't give a **** until they saw it was going to be big time PR... which is why the WH put out the "we were there from day 1" propaganda that Salazar and Napolitano spun over a dozen times in one day which was and is a lie.

I believe you would fix it or not go. That's not how our Government operates no matter how much some in this thread try to polish that turd.

I'm going to kill the water at the meter, open the garden hose to relieve the pressure from the system and haul ass on vacation and deal with it when I get home....:rofl

Re: While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "W

Personally, I think it is best that the pols just stay out of the way and let the Coast Guard do its job. If they need help they'll ask. Until then the political appointees just get in the way including and especially the President, although I understand that it does state support for the people if he shows up.

I have to say this one more time...did anyone notice what a professional briefing the CG Admiral's give and how unprofessional and uninformed the administration appointees look in comparison.

Re: While Oil Slick Spread, Interior Department Chief of Staff Rafted with Wife on "W

My 2-cents worth...

Yeah, it was stupid for Tom Strickland to still go to the Grand Canyon even if this was a planned visit while the BP Gulf Coast Oil Spill was in it's early stages and not much was really known about it, i.e., how bad bad could/would get and what was really taking place deep below the surface, but ultimatel despite how this trip comes off as slightly embarrasing for the Obama Administration, I'd say that initial reports were all guesses and both BP and the fed were doing all they could do based on the information they had at the time.

Those who are upset about the expedience of getting "the proper" resource on-scene are basically being partician...looking for any and every excuse to make the President look bad. Yet, in the very next breath they talk about corporate responsibility and completely ignore who ultimate is responsible for this disaster in the first place. The way I see it, if the law says that an oil drilling company is responsible for cleaning up the oil spill they cause then I place 100% of the blame on that oil company, not the fed! The gov't has a responsibility to render assistance, when asked, in the cleanup effort. To that, based on all the reports I've read, the fed has done their part and have even gone above the call. Unfortunately, no matter what the President does -whether Democrac or a Republican because both sides do it - the reaction to the crisis will never be quick enough nor will there ever be enough resources thrown at the situation by the fed - this dispite their best estimates or best efforts.

Sidenote: Everything disaster whether natural or man-made is compared to Katrina now and that's unfortunate. The oil spill isn't on the same scale as Katrina. I'd say a closer comparison would be the Nashville flood, but even it had fewer similarities other than both floods occured in major cities and will cost billions to clean up.

Hardly. When the propoganda from the White House comes out saying the Government was there from day one, at least twelve times in one day... it's not partisan calling a bald faced lie what it is - a bald faced lie.

Perhaps you're not upset because of you and middleground and those who share your opinion on this issue, are to partisan FOR the White House and this President and would, if this were reversed and Bush were in the White House, would be all over this but since it's Obama, free passes abound.

See an unpartisan view would see Katrina as a consummate failure AND they would see this oil spill disaster and the Dept. of Interiors exemption of safety protocols as well as this badly scheduled trip for what it is... a consummate failure...

You're weak claim and middlegrounds weak claim of partisanship is simple in it's purpose... denial, deferral and misdirection. Simple political hack measures to put those critics on the defensive my levying unfounded claims and BS to muddy the water. I call BS... call it what it is. If you were a critic of the government handling of Katrina you should be a critic of the handling of the Gulf oil spill AND the Tennesee flooding.

When folks aren't being honest with themselves or others --- it's so obvious.
