I'm really starting to gain a stronger understanding of the conservative mind and it's primary driving force:
Fear.
You might have a good point if you care to explain it more in depth.
Fear of what?
There are a lot of things I fear, indeed - I'm not a rounded conservative, I'm just fiscally conservative - but fear does play a role:
Fear of our country going bankrupt due to our government's bi-partisan spending and taxation policies (as is currently happening in Greece).
Fear of the government leaning on taxes SO much to fund it's bloated budget and excessive spending that they won't be able to get it under control.
Fear that as we continually borrow more and more from other countries (like China) that we'll become TOO dependent on them and will no longer be able to continue the practice and will fall into their debt beyond the money tree's roots (as is already happening).
Fear that my children will enter into a world that's so riddled with international financial debt and crisis that even a solid, strong education and career in a expansive field of work won't even be able to secure them for life.
Fear that the basic requirements of living ordained by the government will topple more and more individuals and couples over - forcing them to be
more dependent on the government for support because the basics of living would be unaffordable . . . (Already happening - how many things are requirement by the government that people *must* pay for? Insurance: auto and health - at the least - taxes on all things you buy and own.)
Property taxes are a yearly gutting for me, right now I'm capping off at over $300.00/year - which is 4x's more than what we paid just 3 years ago)
Yeah - I'm driven by fear - fear that our government's irresponsibility and lack of respect for our own people will drive us back and hold us down in our own lives.
Soon the government will crack - instead of favoring reprieve for the middle man it will favor heavier taxation and draw money from people who have none like poison from a wound with the guise of "it's ok, if you can't afford to live we'll take care of you"
Just how many people does the government WANT to support? How long can that type of support last?
All the while - our country is becoming unbelievably fat and ignorant, we're falling off the world scale of importance like a stone from a cliff.
