Nationally, 60% Favor Letting Local Police Stop and Verify Immigration Status

Even Jeb Bush has come out and said how stupid this Arizona law is.....

Not to mention Tancredo and several other ultra-conservative, hard line anti-immigrant types.

Wow even Tancredo now that is prof this law is bougs. :rofl

In my experience, the people looking for a "handout" in this country are not the undocumented immigrants....it is American citizens.

Usually the undocumented immigrant is the one looking for work outside Home Depot or pushing a vending cart. Rarely do you see an undocumented immigrant panhandling or applying for welfare.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but a lot of states and municipalities look at enforcing Federal laws as a sort of unfunded mandate.

I think AZ is getting tired of paying the bills for the expenses that these people bring to the taxpayers in the forms of public services. The States get stuck paying expenses because the Feds won't enforce the law.

What public services are undocumented immigrants getting?

You can't get any state public services, if you are an not a legel cizten. Those sevices are only for legel ciztens of the United states of America.

Please forgive me for any errors I am typing on a diffrent computer that doesn't have grammer check, nor Spelling check.

Medical services, public education, police protection, etc. I do believe there are expenses.

We do have a right, as a nation, to national sovereignty. As much as I respect the Mexican people I know, I do feel that, as a community, they laugh in the face of our immigration laws and really feel like they are totally entitled to be here, legal or not. I also know that their communities are often riddled with gangs, which is closely tied to drug smuggling. This is causing problems here and we have every right to be concerned without accusations of racism.

Seriously DD. The Bush's are married into hispanic culture. I would expect no less from them.

Just sayin'.

I would love it if they would enforce the laws already on the books. I think that's what Arizona intends on doing. They just had to find a way to do it. No matter. Enforcing the law, regardless how it's done, is going to raise the ire of the hispanics.

Myself, I prefer American law over Mexican law. That's why I live here instead of there I suppose. If those who support letting the illegals run around free and unchecked, prefer to ignore our laws, perhaps they should move to Mexico where ignoring law is common place.

I agree with you on one level. But disagree on another.

I think the biggest impact is really on the public education system. As far as medical services, I would doubt it. Most undocumented immigrants are reluctant to seek medical services in an emergency room for fear of INS. Many travel back to Mexico to get medical/dental care when needed.
As far as gangs and drug smuggling...those are not unique to undocumented immigrants or their neighborhoods.

I agree that we have a right and even an obligation to seek immigration reform. Going about it by targeting people based on skin color and laws that harass people, disproportionately the poor is not the proper way to go about it.
Arizona should be ashamed of themselves.

Personally, I think Tancredo is just mad because he didn't think of it himself ...

This law is unnecessary to enforce the laws that are already on the books.

In actuality, those laws are better targeted to addressing the problems than this ill-advised drabble.

It isn't about "rasing the ire of hispanics"...its about respecting the principles that this country has stood for for years. Laws that treat people differently because of skin color are simply wrong. This law was not thought out well and Arizona is going to pay a large price for their knee-jerk reactionism rather than focusing on real reform and addressing the real problems.

No...I actually think that Tancredo understands that he himself could be stopped and detained simply for being a darker shade of brown than the caucasians in Arizona.

Its rather telling that Arizona was the last state in the nation to recognize Martin Luther King day....and now they pass this racist legislation.

The medical sevices is provided basic things, and public education is only for legels now. Police have to protect every one that is is their job

It is wrong...

It's intelligent. Most illegals are Mexican or Latin American. A defining characteristic is their skin color. We should be checking everyone of them we can find for documentation and deport those that cannot prove legal status. It is not racism.

And those that are US Citizens should have to undergo the harassment just because of their skin color?

Not to mention all the other non-brown immigrants that get a free pass because they are "lucky" enough not to have the skin pigmentation.:doh

The problem is, illegal aliens from Mexico look like, well, Mexicans. I am still trying to figure out why that's whitey's fault.

Maybe it is because you are not an American citizen that happens to look like......Mexican.

It is not harassment to prove your legal status.

When someone commits a crime, they should also be checked for immigration status, whatever their color. If Boston has a bad Irish immigration problem, then check people that look Irish.

The VAST majority of illegal aliens are Mexican and we ought to focus our resources on that problem.
