Seoul - North Korea on Saturday warned it was prepared to use nuclear weapons if it was invaded by the US and South Korea.

The official Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) carried the remarks by the North's Joint Chief, General Ri Yong-Ho, during a national meeting on the eve of the birthday of the communist country's armed forces.

"The revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK (North Korea) are fully ready to frustrate any provocation of the aggressors at a single blow," Ri said.

"They will mobilise all means including the nuclear deterrent... should the US imperialists and the South Korean puppet warmongers dare intrude into the inviolable sky, land and seas of the DPRK even 0.001mm," he said.

He added that "a grave situation is now prevailing on the Korean Peninsula" because of the neighbouring South and its ally the US, who he said wanted to start a war.

The harsh rhetoric comes as tensions between the two Koreas are high over the sinking of a South Korean warship in March near the disputed sea border in the Yellow Sea with a loss of 46 lives.

Seoul has been careful not to point the finger directly at the North over the incident in the Yellow Sea, which has stoked already tense ties, and Pyongyang has denied it was to blame.

The tensions prompted US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to say she hoped there would be "no miscalculation" that could spark a new war between the Koreas.

Oh boy. Looks like Kim Jong Il is having a temper tantrum. WILL SOMEBODY GET HIM THAT SPIDERMAN TOY HE WANTED!

Oh man North Korea has never said exactly this a thousand times before!

Oh wait.

As long as NK is supported by China, no such invasion will happen.

You think that's what's stopping us? The US has nothing to gain by invading North Korea. They don't have anything we want.

Sorry, I should have said, "no such invasion can happen".

You're right, there is nothing there that the U.S. wants.

Well good for them I guess.

So, North Korea is going to truck a bomb to the border, assemble it, then blow themselves up?

Works for me.

Would we not nuke North Korea if they tried to invade us?

Nonsense. They don't have any or a missile to launch them. It's just macho political bluster to impress his people, like what the Iran leader keeps saying to Israel.

We didn't have anything to gain in Iraq (no oil) and Afghanistan (no OBL) and we invaded them.

But I believe the people that think the illegal mexican invasion is about race as opposed to law & tax money put invitation cards (No RSVP) and $100 bills in them.

Amazing. No matter how many times I read this post it simply refuses to make any sense to me.
