Army Secretary: Soldiers Can Still Be Discharged for Admitting They Are Gay


Reversing course, Army Secretary John McHugh warned soldiers Thursday that they still can be discharged for admitting they are gay, saying he misspoke earlier this week when he suggested the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy had been temporarily suspended.
 
Yes, the rule has not been officially repealed. This isn't a surprise to anyone.

By the way, when was the last time you changed your signature? You're like those guys in 2008 who still had Bush/Cheney bumper stickers on their cars. :mrgreen:
 
That's not even what that article you posted is about. Did you read past the headline.

The point of the article is that the army secretary had told gays that he wanted to hear from them about ways they would suggest that could help facilitate the lifting of the ban.
He later realized that asking for input would violate the DADT policy and so he retracted his statement to ensure that people wouldn't rely on his mistake.

Talk about dishonesty in trying to spin this into something it isn't even about.

Its obvious that that is all you read. You posted a link that is completely unrelated to what you are trying to argue.

He is telling gays that if they come out of the closet they will be discharged.....

LOL....yes....but the context of the article was that he was apologizing for his mistake by not realizing that asking gays in the military how to help eliminate DADT would violate the law.
He wasn't saying "The Fight goes on" ....come out and you will be discharged.

I can understand how someone (like yourself) that hadn't read the article, might be mislead by the headline....but it usually helps if you read the article before you link it and post a thread. It helps keep Pie off your face. :3oops:

McHugh's mea culpa goes on to announce changes.

"The working group is likely to utilize a third party from outside of the department to solicit these views so soldiers can speak candidly and without fear of separation. I urge every soldier to share his or her views and suggestions on this important issue through this channel. This is the appropriate way to do so."

If this does not highlight how stupid the rule is, I don't know what is. The military cannot talk to gay soldiers about the policy, because they would then have to discharge them, so they have to get a third party group to do it.
