In Slipup, Anti-Gay Okla. Lawmakers Vote to Strip Race, Religion Protections

Oh no I guess if you are not a racial/ethnic minority, gay, religious minority or what ever else I guess you can't speak out against racist laws and other similar laws.

Of course you can speak out james. It just seemed like (in an earlier post) you were crying that straight white folks get left out of the hate crimes laws.

Here it is:

Being a member of a particular group should not get you any extra benefits, punishments or extra justice under the law.

Why the hell not? If your particular group gets pummeled on a regular basis for no more than being who they are, they should be afforded extra protection.

To protect and to serve. Police motto no?

In Slipup, Anti-Gay Okla. Lawmakers Vote to Strip Race, Religion Protections :: EDGE Dallas

Oklahoma accidentally voted to strip some protections based on race and religion because they cited the wrong statute.

They were trying to remove those protections based on sexuality - Oklahoma doesn't want to abide by the recent federal change that adds sexuality-based hate crimes to the list. They cited the wrong statute and accidentally stripped some protections based on race or religion.

The bill in question prevents local law enforcement from sharing any information with the feds about a hate crime if Oklahoma does not recognize the crime as a hate crime. So, if someone commits a religious hate crime in Oklahoma right now, they are legally barred from sharing information with the feds.

Why they would want to remove this protection from homosexuals is beyond my powers of imagination.

It seems like some of these backwards States are not even in American any more.

These states and local municipalities elect far-right retards to positions of power and anything and everything we stand for as a country get flushed down the toilet.

Well done OK!!:bravo:

Ah, it makes sense. I'm universally loved because I'm a straight white male. I guess terms like "cracker ass" are terms of endearment.

Seems like in your world, racism is only a majority having prejudiced thought about a minority. The little guy is always right, regardless of words or actions.

If I beat up a black guy, I committed a hate crime. If a black guy beat me up, I probably just deserved it. Thanks for clearing all that up, buddy. Apparently I'm living in the wrong century to be a white male.

Pointing out the hypocrisy of a law does not mean you were complaining or whining why it that same law does not apply to you. Besides what earlier post was I crying about being left out of hate crime laws?

Why the hell not?

AS pointed out earlier by riverat

"A crime should not be more heinous just because it happened to someone who is a member of a certain group. All that should matter is that it happen to a PERSON. "

No they shouldn't. If you get assaulted its an assault against you regardless of the reason someone assaulted you, no one else was assaulted but you. Hate crime laws are an excessive fine or punishment.

There is no "and extra protection for religious,ethnic/racial minorities and homosexuals" at the end of that protect and serve. Besides I do not see what a police motto has to do with handing someone an extra punishment just because of the victim happens to be a in a protected class. Police can arrest you but they can not hand out punishments.
