55% Favor Repeal of Health Care Bill

yeah. except that the uninsured use the emergency room about as much as the insured do. the cost of the uninsured getting medical care and then not paying for it costs the average family something like $200 a year. and instead we're going to replace this 200 bucks a year with a multi-thousand dollar subsidy.

only a democrat could honestly argue that we will reduce costs by increasing spending.

Actually, the cost is more like $370 per person or $1,000 per family per year.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2009/05/28/health/main5045280.shtml

As to the multi-thousand subsidy: Well there are 134M US taxpayers, of which 100M actually paid tax. The outlay on the health care plan is $100B per year, so that is $1,000 per family... almost a wash.

As to spending money to make money, that is an axiom of business. The basic premise of health care savings is the current burden of the uninsured on the system is greater because we are fixing problems in the high cost emergency room rather than averting problems with the preventative doctor visit. Arguing this premise is legitimate, but that is the real debate. Yes, we are spending money to front-end this. But the total ticket on the system is about the same over 10 years as prosecuting the Iraq war cost us in 7 years. There should be a better ROI on this one.

I wish we had half the discussion of the cost of Iraq war before we engaged in that. I would then better respect the intellectual honesty of those that argue this on cost.

Yet that happens all the time. You spend more upfront and reduce costs later. Buy a new furnace that is more efficient, for example, and you'll reduce the cost of energy. Not a hard concept.

I think the uninsured use it more, but the insured pay nothing. That's key. They pay nothing. And each family doesn't pay multi-thousands dollars. The key will be if they pay less. In the long run, when all is said and done, we likely won't be increasing spending. The hope is to increase coverage while reducing the actual cost. More needs to be done before that is so, but resistance to do anything is what is delaying the effort.

What is to stop and uninsured person who when he gets sick going to the emergency room and applying for health insurance then?

Well, first of all, no insurance is going to cover you for something you suffered in the past. And the new law only bans pre-existing condition exclusions for children. The part for adults with pre-existing conditions will involve funds like many states have now, but they have rules to protect against things like that.

And does it really matter in this case? Isn't it better to get insurance and start paying premiums on it than it is to just get treatment and walk away paying nothing?

That is not true, your boy Barry brags that a person can sigh up with pre condition conditions.........

The law says what I described. Either Barry is lying, or you are, or you're highly confused. You pick.

Typical Liberal response, I rest my case..........The problem with your scenario is Pelosi said the congress would use paygo as a guide in spending and then they pass a trillion dollar health bill that is not paid for..........

True'Dat.. BUT if your system needs a new air filter you don't snatch it out, throw it away and replace it with something that costs as much as the house you're putting it in! There has to be good math which supports such a change and with Obama care that math does NOT exist... mater of FACT they are still figuring out how much it will cost and it sure as hell won't be even close to what they are tellin' us! If you believe their numbers then you haven't even given the matter any consideration.. Our federal government can NOT do ANYTHING within budget.. even the things they are SUPPOSED to be doing!

It's about common sense.. and they have none, and if they do... then it's worse than I thought and we are headed to a very dark place.

If they are still figuring it out, how do you know it wont' be close to what they're telling us?

Yes, I have given it consideration.

It's about common sense

Common sense is often wrong.

The Associated Press: GOP wary of health law repeal push in fall races

It sounds like the GOP is already stepping away from repealing the bill. I love how the GOP inflames their conservative base to influence the public opinion in their favor and then stabs them in back so they can turn their focus to getting re-elected.

They GOP will stop talking about repealing the bill and will make some argument about how the legislation threatens jobs and businesses. It's the classic Republican strategy and it might work. The bill will likely never be repealed but more Republicans will be elected and that is all the GOP really cares about.
