Scott Brown Votes with Democrats (Again) on Cloture

Or Lieberman or Miller.

Go figure.

I find it amusing when a party politician breaks ranks, he is applauded by the opposing team for doing what is right. When their own break ranks, they are worthless traitors.

Both sides do it.

Muy ha ha.

Both parties need more in the middle of the road, where the real work gets done. The bifurcation of American politics that we have seen develop over the past two decades is unhealthy. There are too many important things to get done for us to have one party propose and another party just oppose.

:rofl:lamo:monkey:laughat::2rofll:

That's because statistically no one cares about libertarians. The sooner you accept that the happier you'll be
And how does that negate what I said?

Oh right, it doesn't. It was just a chance for you to be a smartass.

Carry on.

Scott Brown ran on changing Washington (then again, don't they all)... but part of the change is to actually get something done.

scott brown, jersey #41, delivered his party's radio address this morning

he was elected by a partisan coalition, he says, to send a message to washington that americans' top priority is jobs and a healthy economy

instead, #41 continues, the president is laser focused on this "bitter, destructive and endless" health care debate

at a time when one in ten americans is out of work the president insists on making his "takeover of health care his first priority"

ramming it thru, whatever it takes, whatever the cost

the prez promised, the rhino from new england laid out, in his state of the union address to finally focus on jobs and the economy for the remainder of the year

i applauded him for that

but it's spring already, and what's the prez talking about?

this 2000 page, multi trillion dollar takeover of health care

the president has not gotten the message, forty-one concludes

RealClearPolitics - Video - Senator Scott Brown: Do Not Pass Bill Public Has Rejected

Actually, I think more people are Libertarian than Republican (at this time). There is just a strange dynamic which has arisen where
  • The majority of Libertarians are more concerned with fiscal conservatism than with social liberalism
  • Fiscal conservative (Libertarian) Republicans can't get elected on that stance alone, so they have to kowtow to social conservatives. When a candidate isn't socially conservative, too many right wingnuts stay home and don't vote.
  • When Libertarian Republicans manage to kowtow enough to the Right wingnuts to get them out there to vote, the social liberal Libertarians exit, and either vote Democrat or stay home.
These things conspire to keep Libertarians out of office. If we had instant runoff voting, I believe Libertarians would quickly (within 8 years) become the majority movement in the U.S., with Democrats as the second largest, and Republicans the third. I believe the split in votes for Congress would begin to average somewhere around 35% Libertarian, 32% Democrat, 30% Republican and 3% "Other". I could envision the Green Party possibly taking a slice off almost strictly from the Democrats to make the Republicans the second largest.

Once the electorate started to see the true consequences of fiscal conservatism, I believe there would then follow a deep shift back toward fiscal moderation, perhaps with the Republicans adopting a definite fiscal moderate, social conservative platform.

Of course, this is all speculation, but I just don't think that Libertarianism is as irrelevant as you do. I do think that if people knew better, they would stop being Libertarian, but I think it is actually a large movement right now.

I do think that if people knew better, they would stop being Libertarian [...]
Too bad we're not all as smart as you, huh?

I love it when bigots just come right out and state it.

This is why I think it was foolish for people to make a big deal out of Brown's victory in Massachusetts. A republican in that part of the US is not the same as a republican in many other parts of the US.

And that's a good thing for the GOP.

Finally, a Senator who came to D.C. actually do some work and not function as an obstructionist until the next election.
