Rep. Eric Massa (D-N.Y.) says the House ethics committee is investigating him for inappropriate comments he made to a male staffer on New Year's Eve — and that he's the victim of a power play by Democratic leaders who want him out of Congress because he's a "no" vote on health care reform.
"Mine is now the deciding vote on the health care bill," Massa, who on Friday announced his intention to resign, said during a long monologue on radio station WKPQ. "And this administration and this House leadership have said, quote-unquote, they will stop at nothing to pass this health care bill. And now they've gotten rid of me and it will pass. You connect the dots."
Massa insisted that he did not know the basis of a House ethics committee investigation into his conduct until after he announced his retirement last Wednesday, and he took House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) to task for going public with information related to the probe before it is completed.
Democrats are eating their own now in order to get this healthcare bill jammed through the House.

Massa sounds like a loser. You're a Congressman acting like that at a wedding? Do you have any self respect?

Maybe so, but the coincidence is suspicious.

the selective interest of the demos - recognizing there are about 30 in congress who are under investigation over serious matters, makes me inclined to side with that sleazy massa fellow

damn, now i need to shower

The House Committee on Standards of Official Conduct is a bipartisan committee. No way would the committee stand for Democrats using this as a way to get rid of people they don't like.

If it were a bunch of Republicans being investigated, everyone would be screaming this was intentional, as opposed to this being about the lack of ethics in Congress.

i would WANT to believe this
but look at the rascals who are still in office and compare what they are accused to have done compared to this sleazebag's missteps
that is what causes me to continue to believe that this is an instance of selective prosecution

I'd be careful in the shower if I were you.....

Rep. Massa describes a confrontation with Emanuel in a shower: "I am showering, naked as a jaybird, and here comes Rahm Emanuel, not even with a towel wrapped around his tush, poking his finger in my chest, yelling at me."

I am going to nip this simple-minded view of Eric Massa's resignation in the bud right now, and I'm doing it as someone who:
  1. Was, at least in theory, represented by Eric Massa
  2. Doesn't give two hoots about Eric Massa
  3. Isn't an Obama worshiper
Let's review the facts. First, we have the three versions Massa told us this past week about why he was quitting:
  1. His cancer is back and he needs to quit to deal with it and with family stuff
  2. He is about to be the subject of an ethics probe and he doesn't want to drag his family through it
  3. He's being forced out of the House
So to begin with, we're talking about a guy who can't keep his story straight.

Next, consider the timing. An ethics probe would take months, weeks at the very least, and the vote on the health care bill is (last I checked) scheduled for next week. Massa could easily hang in, vote, and then quit and escape the ethics probe -- since he'd be outside its reach and completely irrelevant in any case once he resigned.

There is something else going on here that we don't know about, and that is the real story -- not who is eating who.

I assure you of this. If he was voting for the healthcare plan, there would be no ethics probe. Guaranteed.

It took a mountain range of evidence to get the Dems to finally turn on Rangel. C'mon.

Guaranteed? GIve me a break, Erod. MY HUSBAND WORKS FOR THIS COMMITTEE. I don't know anything about what Massa is accused of, but I sure as hell know how the ethics process works. So stop talking out of your butt, will you?

I disagree, for the very same reason I stated above -- it would take far too long, and by that time the health care vote would've been and gone.

If I was in his shoes and my own party came after me for not voting as they demanded, I'd stick it out just to thumb my nose at them.

As I said, there's something else going on here.

We knew of Rangel's issues WAY before he was finally asked to step down. This is relatively new, and they rushing Massa out the door as quickly as possible.

There are no scruples with your party whatsoever. If it doesn't bother with how reconciation works, why would this be any different.

Okay, Mr. Omniscient. Glad you know so much about the inner workings of the committee. Bye.

rahm was just displaying the skills he learned while a soldier of the IDF

This is Chicago Politics at its worst and exactly what was predicted before Obama took office. Chicago politics is about as bad as it gets and now we have that style in the WH

It is definitely too convinient. Massa did some poor things, but compared to countless others? I want to believe that the Senate Ethics Committee ****s gold and wipes their ass with silk. But, because I'm not in kindergarten, I realize that they are human beings. They are human beings and subject to pressure, even the kind that makes for great "politics."

There is nothing wrong with Eric Massa that a daily dose of Haldol for the rest of his life wouldn't cure.

Rahm should resign on sexual harrassment charges for that shower incident. He ought to frogmarched out of the Congressional showers with his towel wrap straight down Pennsylvania Ave.

That would be a mighty temptation for Barney Frank. Are you sure we, morally, want to put that sort of temptation in Rep. Frank's path?

Were this to be true, you wouldn't be posting on public political forums... if you were smart that is.

How long has Rangle been avoiding it with much worse charges?

Again, someone who doesn't know what he's talking about. Jesus Christ. You all are so gullible. And it's the HOUSE, not the senate.

Really? Why? You don't know who he is.
