VIDEO: Obama Mispronounces "Corpsman" At Prayer Breakfast

I can see how this would have been easily glossed over in any briefing, since you are right it is such a small thing.

I am not making excuses for anyone as much as pointing out the difference between Obama's mistake and Quayle's, which is something you brought up. The simple fact is that potato is a much more commonly used word than corpsemen (which sounds like a great alternative word for zombies ) so the issue is not as straight forward as you want it to be.

Really, I think Winnb is right. There are people who hate the current president and want to make an issue out of anything they can (and it happens on both sides).

are you really arguing this that seriously?

:doh

If you're talking about the President, then yes that's a whole other matter. It's one thing to disagree with policy (great!), it's another to just rip into the guy because he mispronounces a word or misspells potato. That stuff doesn't "raise the bar".

I think it's worthwhile to point out the hypocrisy of the Democratic hype machine. It's not a big deal if Obama mispronounces a word, and everyone who goes to Harvard is smart. Really?

RealClearPolitics - Video - Obama Mispronounces "Corpsman" At Prayer Breakfast

So this is our brilliant Harvard educated man whose education and sophistication is such a breath of fresh air compared to the

Obama pronouced corpsman as "corpseman" twice within the same speech. That's not a slip; that's your president not knowing how to pronounce an everyday word, albeit a military word, which might just explain it right there.

No big deal, you say? Well, harken back to the endless rants about Bush and his "nuc-u-lar" and "tourist attack" mispronunciations - which I dogpiled on, too, because it was funny - and ask yourself, why so little is made by the left of Obama's absolute dependence on teleprompters and his obvious lack of basic high school knowledge of history and economics.

I'm just sayin'.

I wonder if we will see one of these for Obama?

How to Mispronounce Words Like George Bush | eHow.com

#
p 1

Add a syllable to words. One of George W. Bush's most common ways to mispronounce a word is to insert an unnecessary syllable into the word. This is also one of the most common ways people make fun of the president. Famous examples of President Bush adding extra syllables to words include "misunderestimate," "hispanically" and "subliminable."
#
Step 2

Remove a syllable. This method of mispronouncing words is a less common mistake by George W. Bush. However, there are examples of him doing it and you can still use it to make people laugh. An example from a President Bush quote is saying "unceptable" instead of "unacceptable."
#
Step 3

Make words plural which should not be plural. Another of George W. Bush's most famous mispronunciations is using the word "Internets" in a debate. Simply saying "Internets" will cause many people to think of President Bush.
#
Step 4

Give words a southern pronunciation. President Bush is from the South and occasionally pronounces some words differently because of this. For example, he might say "Comin' " instead of "coming," "fella" instead of "fellow" or " 'mericans" instead of "Americans."
#
Step 5

Mispronounce words dealing with foreign policy. One of the topics George W. Bush discusses most frequently is foreign policy, so several of his most famous mispronunciations are in this area. Examples include pronouncing the word nuclear "new-cue-ler," the word terror like the word "tear" and the word terrorist like "tearist."

The emperor's unclothed remarks more election cannon fodder.

I'm sorry, but would you mind connecting these two dots.

1) "Obama pronouced corpsman as "corpseman" twice within the same speech"

2) "[Obama's] obvious lack of basic high school knowledge of history and economics"

Because you made quite a leap in your OP -- I'm just wondering if you can back it up with real life examples or logic...

Anytime you're ready...
:waiting:

There are many examples, and you can just hear his general lack of historical knowledge when he speaks. That's why he's always in campaign mode; it requires almost no facts or basis to say "We need a change in Washington!"

One that comes to mind is when he was discussing Iraq and pointed out how "FDR and Truman met with our enemy leaders." I don't require the meetings between Hitler and FDR, nor the meetings with Japan. Do you? I must have missed that. Perhaps he thought WWII was a war with Russia; someone needs to tell Barack that Stalin was our ally at the time.

He declared himself America's "first Pacific president" when in Asia, apparently unaware that Taft was the governor-general of the Phillipines. And apparently he missed that whole Nixon-China thing.

Remember when he referred to all 57 states?

I've always preferred candidates that know their history and both sides are sketchy at this. That's why I like people like Newt Gingrich, who is a history nut, and even a guy like Clinton, who I detested but felt in the end he had enough grasp of the ways it is and the paths we've travelled before to not do something too stupid.

You can't govern on ideology and ideas alone. You MUST understand what has been tried before - usually dozens of times - before you repeat those mistakes again. If you don't know the history of what you're doing, you're almost destined to make those mistakes again.

how bout the time the great orator SAID HIMSELF that the reason his SIGNATURE ISSUE was so unpopular is cuz he FAILED to explain it properly to the electorate?

was that a small thing?

Sure, point it out, but that just continues the "pointing" the Dem supporters are gonna do later when we have a Republican President.

The cycle continues... And both sides whine about it, but neither side does anything to stop it. Both sides want to attack the other, but then both sides play the victim card when they get attacked.

It's childish.

Then you're part of the problem. Congratulations.
You're still part of the problem, so what are you clapping about?

Ah, now we are trying to excuse being an asshole because it's only doing the same thing as some vague group of people that does not really exist did it. That's fine, but don't be surprised when some of us point out that past actions do not excuse being a dick.

Some of us will continue to point out over the top rhetoric and stupidity like this thread, no matter the party. I have on these very boards defended both Bushes, Reagan, Ford, McCain, Cheney and FOX news from stupid attacks like this, just because they where stupid attacks. Stupidity like this thread is nonpartisan, it's not a democratic thing, it's not a republican thing, it's a stupidity thing. Defending stupid behavior with any excuse(and especially the incredibly lame "well they did it too") shows a willingness to put partisanship ahead of other considerations.

You who voted for Obama.....

....:Oopsie

Dan Quayle probably couldn't have screwed that up and Obama said it three times.

A :joke: sits in our Oval Office.:(

No I'm not part of the problem. You've never seen me participate in that silly name calling of Presidents or any other politicians, and you never will.

No, it's accountability, which is the opposite of childishness. The idiot left wing hype machine needs to be exposed for what it is. Just like women's groups that defend Democratic Senators' sexist remarks, or racial equality groups that stick up for Harry Reid. The shills who said Bush was stupid need to be exposed as the hypocrites they are.

Ever heard of Whistlestopper?:Oopsie

Oops Obama is without a doubt the most ignorant Bastard to ever hold office.

For Christ sake, did this idiot ever see an old war movie, or watch an episode of M.A.S.H.?

Talk about inept and out of touch. He thinks there are 57 States, he is an idiot and proves that an education doesn't make you smart. IIn Obam's case it just means you faked your way through school.

And the stupid people of this country make this fool the new decider.

If it wasn't so pathetic it would be funny.

But see that's exactly what the people on the left say. Example:

The idiot right wing hype machine needs to be exposed for what it is. People like O'Reilly and Limbaugh. The shills who said Obama was Kenyan and Obama was a secret communist need to be exposed as the hypocrites they are.

See? It's easy.

There's a difference. They dislike right wing commentators simply because they're right wing, not because they're hypocrites. I'm pointing out actual hypocritical statements.

How-ston is a street in NYC

Houston is a city in Texas.

Who is that? Because I haven't heard of any commentator, or Journalist continue that meme, other than those on the left that need that for a distraction to serious policy disagreements.

Another perfect example. It's ALWAYS the other guy's fault. The other side is just a bunch of old meanies.

Thanks for providing an example of my point.

Well, I hate living in a humid area, but that what you get for living near the coast.:2razz:

Back on topic, hell at least he is not Bush who mispronounced Nuclear. I think he new he mispronounced the word, but I think it was his southern dialect in him. I have the same dialect, and it never bothered me Most presidents have mispronounced words throughout their term. The pronation of the word is all in the dialect of the person in question.

But this is a stupid thing, to bit*h about.
