I doubt many people will leave the service over the repeal of don't ask don't tell. It didn't happen in the UK when they repealed the ban in the 1990s and unlike then the economy wasn't in a sorry state. I doubt most reasonable people will look at their career in the military and decide its better to go into a workforce already suffering 10% unemployment.

This officer in your link says we need to look at other countries, then he ignores that the other countries that repealed bans on gays serving in the military saw no negative effect on their fighting strength.

I have no compassion for my fellow servicemen? How do you come up with that?

Actually, I give our service men and women much more credit than you do. I know, from personal experience and you probably do too, that people can do their jobs well and be comfortable working with and living with people who might be different than themselves. They've been doing it for years already. People got over their prejudices and learned they could accept blacks and then women and already homosexuals. I'm sure you served with some... whether you knew it or not.

I don't want our service men/women's lives to be put at more risk when one of their trained team mates is suddenly taken away from them, by the sex police, leaving them more vulnerable. You know those taken away are not immediately replaced thus exposing all to a much higher chance of being ijured and killed. Think about it.

Well, there may be some of that. If they leave, good riddance! The service will be better for it. Some may just be shooting their mouths off. To throw away their pension would be fool hardy for such an emotional reason. We shall see what we shall see. I predict there will be hardly any taking that path.

I don't believe you were in the Navy, you might feel different.....I don't think any guy aboard ship would want a gay guy sleeping inches away from him.....

Cut it out with the black example, it is old, stale and been disproven beause blacks are a race of people and gays ae a class of people defined by their sexual preference...........

What do you think they're going to do? Rape me, or others? Good luck. Do you think homosexuals can't control their sexual drive, like pedophilias? They're no different than you or me. Over 14,000 have been discharged mostly because of outdated, caveman-like and fear based attitudes.

That's exactly it. Navy has already said that he can't control himself and that he would rape every woman who walked in front of him if placed on a ship in close quarters with them. He thinks that every other male would do the same. :shock:

I saw this guy on the tube the other night. 9 Air Medals. Lt Colonel. Tell me how discharging men like this makes us, or his unit, safer.

Obama should stop this asap! Politics, as usual, has gotten in the way.

I am impressed that Navy posted this. It certainly doesn't support his position.
 
Maybe some old school military men might jump ship because they fear the queer. But maybe it's time for those dinosaurs to retire anyway and live off their government checks for the rest of their lives. They did their time. They deserve it.

It appears that today's soldiors, sailors, marines, are a lot more secure in their own sexuality than the old farts were. Maybe some of you guys are afraid that sleeping in the same BEQ with a gay person might turn you queer, but today's youth know better.

Having been the "old school" sailor myself, actually serving back in the days of such homophobia, my rightwing friend Navy, is absolutely correct. Back then, being gay in the military, a gay fellow put his sanity, and sometimes his own life, into his own hands. Not a very wise thing to do.

But I think our sailors today are much smarter than we were back in the day. I know because I instructed them. LOL! (They were MUCH brighter than the guys I went through boot camp with.) I would imagine, 25 years later, today's recruits are even smarter now than they were then.

Obviously, the fear card is not working anymore. Reasonable people know better. It won't be long before the gays will have their own bars on base. Mark my word.

If ANYTHING causes voluntary enlistment numbers to drop it will be the thought that the US has become a war-mongering nation determined to be at war somewhere, just about all the time. It won't be the queers that cause a possible draft situation. It will be the neo-cons.
