Alright, figure can have a live thread concerning the speech.

The first thing that made me grit my teeth was his comments about partisanship. If the American people are sick of partisanship, why is he engaging in it. If he's president, why doesn't he take the first step and stop. Stop attacking fox news. Stop attacking Rush Limbaugh. Stop saying we need to "work together" and then in the back room make it clear "work together" is "Shut up and do it my way".

It seems to me that people engaging in partisanship are the only people accusing Obama of partisanship.

I'm listening to the speech now, and he still wants his healthcare bill passed and he's still blaming bush.

Well, I'm doubtful of the spending freeze for reasons outlined by others on the forum, especially for how impactful it will really be.

That said, every little bit helps, so I commend him on seeing the light and changing his stance he had during the campaign when he criticized McCain for the notion

They should restore the PayGo law? You mean the one that the Democratic Congress repealed to pass their bills last year? Hm.

edit: I'm sorry, but wow, he is coming across as a douche.

Projectile Vomiting Alert!

This guy is amazing.

He casts aspersions at others while he is the major perpetrator.

Do you know anything about Obama?

I think he's pissing a lot of people off.

It's just another hollow campaign stop.

"We will have all our combat troops out by this office...on the exact schedule that President Bush set."

On Iraq... He is dangerous.

...

Still watching it, and as usual, I am very impressed with his oration. But the question is this - Is he really going to be able to pull off all that BS that he is talking? His track record says no.

Suddenly jobs is the focus after how many months of health care? I am not confident in his priorities.

He's not dangerous, he's disingenuous. His foreign policy is essentially identical to Bush's, but he's claiming credit for all the good parts and blaming Bush for all the bad.

Jesus Christ Tom Brokaw is a ****head.

"I was startled by the amount of sarcasm and muttering tonight, that really struck me."

wtf?

The other chick is basically telling him "not really"

One point I did like was Obama stating Congress needs to change the tax rules so the companies that create jobs in the US get the break and not those that ship jobs oversees.

I also am a bit tired of blaming the past administration as to why things are still bad.

I hope for America that Congress, the Senate and the President can find a way to work togeather and pass meaniful spending bills.

But for the most part, sounded much like a political bs speach.

That was one of the things that aggravated me the most, because it's one that is most obviously never going to happen.

And who will pay for that break for other companies moving jobs here? Other companies. Net benefit? Nothing.

I LOVE the tax breaks for college kids!

arguably one of his dumber ideas. you don't fix a bubble by inflating it further.

personally, i can't wait for the factcheck of his bogus deficit claims.

McDonnell looks like a Hummel figurine

Three things were really telling for me:

1. The first - Obama called for the large banks that used bailout money to give bonuses to executives to pay back the money before giving handouts to their CEO's.

The Democrats applauded.....the party of no...the party that never saw a corporate executive that it didn't want to give a payout to....sat on their ass.

2. Immigration - Obama called for the strengthening of our borders.

The party of no....the party that LOVES the cheap labor that supports big business for low cost.....sat on their ass.

3. Obama called for more prosecution of civil rights violators, equal pay for women and the end of Don't ask/Don't tell.

The party of no....the party that fights against equal rights for minorities....that fights against protection of rights for women and the party that seeks to keep gays as second class citizens.....sat on their ass.

Americans saw the clear and obvious difference between the two parties tonight.
