Scientists praise Obama as Doomsday clock reset

That "Doomsday Clock" is about the most ridiculous thing ever. Seriously, why is that even news??

That "Doomsday Clock" is about the most ridiculous thing ever. Seriously, why is that even news??

Because it has something to do with Obama.

For example, blogs have been on and on about Obama writing the lead story for Newsweek. Right wing blogs are saying he'll automatically be given the Pulitzer and joking about the Pulitzer being decided on before the article even came out. Democrat and Liberal blogs have been strangely silent.

The bully pulpit has it's benefits no matter who holds it.

So, Obama gets another honor for his chief qualification for anything: yapping.

Meanwhile, the nuclear threat to the world actually increased over the last year.

As long as the liberal leaning members of the media and the majority political party of the Federal Government is Democratic, yes. They have to support their leader in the face of overwhelming criticism by the citizens of this country. Rally 'round the leader - circle the wagons, whatever you want to call it.

This is particularly annoying (though unsurprising) because it underscores how deeply science is pervaded with politics.

They lost all credibility with their Global Warming scam so this cannot make any difference in that department. ;)

If the doomsday clock ever goes off, then will it have ever existed in the first place?

This is a worthy footnote to your statement:

London Times said:
A WARNING that climate change will melt most of the Himalayan glaciers by 2035 is likely to be retracted after a series of scientific blunders by the United Nations body that issued it.
...
It has also emerged that the New Scientist report was itself based on a short telephone interview with Syed Hasnain, a little-known Indian scientist then based at Jawaharlal Nehru University in Delhi.

Hasnain has since admitted that the claim was "speculation" and was not supported by any formal research. If confirmed it would be one of the most serious failures yet seen in climate research. The IPCC was set up precisely to ensure that world leaders had the best possible scientific advice on climate change.

Professor Murari Lal, who oversaw the chapter on glaciers in the IPCC report, said he would recommend that the claim about glaciers be dropped: "If Hasnain says officially that he never asserted this, or that it is a wrong presumption, than I will recommend that the assertion about Himalayan glaciers be removed from future IPCC assessments."

Seems like some of the overwhelming scientific information isn't scientific at all.

haha good point. :p

The doomsday clock exists to remind you that it exists, and only such a purpose.

Did Obama stop the attack in Kabul? No, so the doomsday clockers are full of ****. More problems in the region don't help the nuke situation, plus he hasn't done a damn thing about Iran.

The bully pulpit has it's benefits no matter who holds it.

We've had what? Two terror attacks in the homeland. We have more troops in Afghanistan and Iran combined. Iranians are being challenged? Ill Kim Jong fired test rockets right after an Obama speech in Europe. What has changed?

We have a weak president that fits their ideological mindset.
.......................................
It reminds me a little of...

...early in the Bush administration, driving through a certain section of Europe I frequent regularly, the news blared incessantly that Judicial Watch was investigating something the Bush administration had done.

Fair enough...

But in all the previous years Judicial Watch had been chasing The Clintons for their misdeeds, I hadn't heard a peep from the Euro press about them. In fact, I was astonished to hear they knew who the group was. Well... they didn't... until it served their purposes of the day to fill the air with some Bush bashing.

This is the same... in reverse. Except it's meaningless drivel used to prop up the Hollow One. Players in the Hope-a-Dope crusade.
