Dems not worried about post-vote backlash at home

There are real, concrete bits of reform tucked in this package

bits of reform

LOL!

the libs keep HOPING this bill will not be an election issue

what's that tell you?

Not true, many liberals are very disappointed with how the bill turned out (including Howard Dean and Keith Olbermann). Plus, the conservative base is about twice as large as the liberal base.

The bill was big enough, important enough, and unpopular enough that it will almost certainly have a huge impact.

Conservative base is twice as big? Where are you getting this from, sparky?

if president obama were really interested in pre existing conditions he coulda won it as a stand-alone with near unanimous bipartisan support

had he simply desired to expand coverage, there were many, many ways he could have accomplished this with 70 votes in the senate

but, no, he had to do it all

well, he got it, congrats

(except for the public option, which he didn't get, did he?)

trouble is this bill will kill the economy, and in their guts, at least, everyone knows it

it burdens states with 200B, unbacked

it forces individuals to go out and spend on aetna, not cheap

it taxes businesses and industries

it taxes PAYROLL

it massively cuts medicare and medicaid, already severely strained

most of its benefits don't begin til 2014

etc

live it, love it

it's YOURS!

do you know what this bill is gonna do to MEDICAID, specifically?

expand MEDICAID by 10 mil with no federal backing?

say goodbye, CA

and that aint spin

if you think THIRTY ONE POINTS in nebraska don't express the american gut, you haven't seen as much united states politics as i, i fear

happy new year, all

***** Quite possibly Obama is not worried. California barring something really out of Left Field will always go Democratic and that's 55 Right There - DC & Vermont 3 more. He got 98% of the Black Vote in 2008 so how far can it drop - even if things go really bad - maybe 93% :(

***** Even Texas will tilt away eventually and NO. Carolina & Georgia due to an influx there might be gone. Throw in NY, Massachusetts for sure just about - Hawaii,Washington pretty solid.

**** If he loses it won't be by much and in 2016 he will be only 55.

Fair enough, though I'd question how these numbers translate into actual beliefs, since the name "liberal" has suffered a bad smear campaign for the last few decades.

No, Liberal Ideas smear themselves in real life implementation.

Reform is important to us.

IF Healthcare reform WAS important to you then you would address it from a constitutional perspective..

IT is NOT..

The Socialists in DC are merely grabbing power... and raping the Constitution while they keep the constitutionally illiterate spewing their rhetoric.

IF you REALLY wanted to change healthcare you would simply do it within the Constitution.. PERIOD!

YOU do NOT stand above the Constitution.. no matter how illiterate you are! :2wave:

Whether this is constitutional or not will be decided in the courts. Constitutional scholars are divided, but from what I can see, a larger portion think the bill will pass constitutional muster. It will got to court, and we will find out. Until then, the hysteria on your part is amusing.

Care to point out the socialist in Washington that you are referring to?

How about Bernie Sanders. Doesn't he call himself a socialist?

Bernie hardly meets this criteria does it?note the bolded parts.

Even Bernie is against this healthcare bill,as by this statement.
“While I voted to proceed to the health care legislation tonight, I have made it clear to the administration and Democratic leadership that my vote for the final bill is by no means guaranteed.

The Supreme Court will most likely affirm the constitutionality of the reform passed by Congress.

Again, what specific parts of the constitution are being violated?

16th amendment.

9th amendment.

10th amendment.

Article I, section 8.

The question is whether congress can require people to buy insurance or pay a fine. Brief article on the topic: Health Care and the Founding Fathers | FactCheck.org

Interesting spin on the constitution...

Section 8 - Powers of Congress

The Congress shall have Power To lay and collect Taxes, Duties, Imposts and Excises, to pay the Debts and provide for the common Defence and general Welfare of the United States; but all Duties, Imposts and Excises shall be uniform throughout the United States;

To borrow money on the credit of the United States;

To regulate Commerce with foreign Nations, and among the several States, and with the Indian Tribes;

Do you want to tear it apart, or do you insist that I do?

The fact of the matter is that he did vote for the bill so he is just another phony politician trying to have it both ways.
