Nullification for Texas? Will it work?

If you don't like Socialism, you're in the wrong country, my friend. Americans love Socialism. That's why we have Social Security.

Americans do not embrace socialism. They never have and never will. Social Security is viewed as a pay as you go insurance program for the aged. If FDR had promoted this as a socialist ponsi scheme it never would have passed Congress nor been embraced by the American people.

I used to say during the time I was in the employment rolls that given the chance I would have gladly taken the money I had paid into SSA and invested it myself. I would have expected a reasonable rate of return for the money that I had already paid into it because it would have been justifiably mine had I invested it myself.

Now that I am retired I hope to live to 150 and I intend to suck dry the Social Security system so all the socialists who think this is such a neat idea like having to pay about 80% of their income in taxes to support my lazy butt. Sorry, but I won the bet. I didn't die on schedule.

If you think Americans like socialism I have some swampland in Louisiana I want to discuss with you.

More they don't like the word. That's why disingenuous politicians use it (as well as some ill informed partisan political discussion board posters ).

However, they like medicare, medicaid, welfare, services, and such. Sorry.

I do hope you live to 150 Boogiedog. You old fart.

Good post.

But, without socialism we wouldn't have cops, library's, schools, fire depts, etc.

There's good socialism (damn my fingers burned typing that) and there's bad socialism I suppose.

All these ism's are tearing this country apart.

Median Income, by state, Three year average 2006-2008

2nd New Jersey $67,508
4th Connecticut $65,618
15th Massachusetts $60,038
21st California $57,988

38th Texas $46,853

Texas's median income is 20% less than California's, 31% less than New Jersey's.

Income - State Median Income

That $46,853 is worth about $167,508 in New Jersey. I exaggerate only slightly. What can be bought here is a pittance for what people pay for homes on the east and west coasts.

We also pay no state income tax. And now as a senior citizen my property taxes are frozen until I croak.

I already covered that MM. It's all good.

It's all relative. I would venture to say that a 150,000.00 home in Texas would cost over 340,000.00 in NJ and upwards towards a million in CA. So really, what does it all mean?

But I'm just guessing and pulling figures out of the air. I know that if I sold my modest home here in Wisconsin, even now, I would have enough money to buy one twice as good and twice as big with 40 acres of land, in Texas.

You'd be right. It's still cheap. Ridiculously cheap.

I've been spying a parcel just north of Broom City, just southeast of P-town. 20 acres, 4 br, 2 1/2 bath, double garage and a barn, 148,000.00 House looks like it could use some paint and a new roof. Also, the landscaping needs work. Mostly weeds and sassafrass trees.

I've known this guy all my life. Check out the deals. W.A.Brown Realtors

Know it well. Do you have a link to the photo of the home itself. The contractor that remodeled my home also built a new home near there back abut 2001.

I will see if I can get my brother to email some photos he took on his camera phone. He's shipping out to Iraq on Christmas day.

We were down that way, sadly, burying my mother last September, when we happened upon it.

Good grief!! My condolences. I wish we could have gotten together. Perhaps another time. I'll certainly keep your brother in mind. Tell him to watch his back. It's always dangerous in any war zone.

Thank you for your thoughts B-dog. Appreciate it.

Yeah, my brother has been war-hoppin' since Bosnia. Makes big bucks doin' it. Don't know why all of my father's sons have to make their living on the edge like we do. My perils pale in comparison to his.

Fine. The federal government is supposed to protect American's liberties from the state governments. I stand corrected.
What are you talking about?

Americans are repulsed at Socialism.
Nope. They love it. That's why we have Social Security, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, Child Labor Restrictions, Bank Deposit Insurance, Food Stamps, the Minimum Wage and all of the many reforms advocated by the Socialist which make this such a great Secular Socialist Nation.

If I moved out of Texas, the median income here would be cut by half.

Perhaps they're just lazy Socialists, like me. Except, I'm rich.
This should tell everyone about the average quality of WCD's posts.

There is nothing to see here, and never has been. Move alone.

I never really met any rich people that actually went around bragging about it.

Just sayin'.
