ABC's Karen Travers reports from Washington:
President Obama told ABC News’ Charles Gibson in an interview that if Congress does not pass health care legislation that will bring down costs, the federal government “will go bankrupt.”
The president laid out a dire scenario of what will happen if his health care reform effort fails.
“If we don't pass it, here's the guarantee….your premiums will go up, your employers are going to load up more costs on you,” he said. “Potentially they're going to drop your coverage, because they just can't afford an increase of 25 percent, 30 percent in terms of the costs of providing health care to employees each and every year. “
The president said that the costs of Medicare and Medicaid are on an “unsustainable” trajectory and if there is no action taken to bring them down, “the federal government will go bankrupt.”
“This actually provides us the best chance of starting to bend the cost curve on the government expenditures in Medicare and Medicaid,” Obama said.

Congress is not working on any form of any bill that will reduce health care costs for anyone. I mean, their main goal is to provide gratis to poor people what they already get for free now.

Actually, my comment was relative to the OP. Your comment on the other hand... was trollish.

As the debt burden increases (via cost increases of an aging population), so will the propensity of the federal government to tax. Up to a specific point, the tax increases will inevitably put a negative association with potential revenues, of which the laffer curve becomes relevant once again.

Since you have neither useful information, or an argument from your fellow partisans, there really is no reason for you to respond to anything.

Every dollar - and that is EVERY dollar - the government spends, it -chooses- to spend. The government can absolutely, unquestionably and irrefutably avoid bankruptcy by simply not spending the money.

That's pretty much what I was inferring. The government will eventually be bankrupt at the rate we are going. We have increasing numbers of government program dependents, a growing aged population due to medical technology, more and more people wanting government control of their lives (along with the freebies), and more politicians who use this in order to get votes.
Politicians who can get elected on the basis of social programs and spending will continue to make promises that they eventually will be unable to fulfill. Democrats have used this tactic for many years, and it works. Republicans have realized this is the way to increase their support. The American people, as a whole, are stupid, greedy, and self-absorbed, and cannot be trusted to vote for the good of the country rather than for their own wants and needs.

Projections on medicare/aid are pretty grim to the point where they are virtually encompassing the budget and many of these were done back in the end days of Clinton. I haven't seen projections for private, but I suspect they are just as bad, if they weren't, firms would still as a norm, offer medical.

Wrong. The Laffer curve is based on the marginal propensity to work, not tax cuts. At certain, theoretical locations on the curve, more people will work then at higher points. Assuming that the income is taxable, moving from a higher position to a substantially lower position will result in theory, in more tax revenue. While reduction in tax rates are a vital part of the curve, it is not the basis of it.
