For once, I agree with what I think Glenn Beck is saying here, that America (politicians) needs a long-term economic/commerce plan. However, what Glenn Beck forgets is that America does NOT retain its elected officials in government "indefinitely". There are term-limits in this country and with each individual elected to office - be it the Presidency or to Congress regardless of political party - each brings a separate agenda. In fact, it is the President who sets that agenda. The only way a 100-year plan would work in this country is if a law went into effect that spanned a century of active management or was amended based on the changes over time, but remained in force. It could happen....I mean, here it is 200 years later and we still rely on the Constitution. But I digress...
The only constants this nation truly have are: the right to vote in the election process and capitalism. And the Constitution. But asking a successive Congress and/or consecutive Presidents to adhere to a 100-year plan...sorry, but somehow I don't see that as practical except by law.
Good idea, but I really don't see how that will ever be executed in this country. Now, the people do need to get back to financial basics by saving more and living within their means. I think that more than anything else will put this nation on better economic footing in the future...well, that and buy Government bonds.
