How low will he go? Obama gives Japan's Emperor Akihito a wow bow

But.... but, it was our fault for.... for.... it was our fault.

Yeah!! It was our fault!! How dare we help bring Japan up to speed with the rest of the world!

Now that I think about it, we should have blasted their asses when we first had the chance...saved us some Marine lives.

Funny how well that worked in the case of Japan and Germany.

I can also say as a fact (my wife is a German Citizen) that the Germans (citizens, not Government) hate us for that and protecting them from Russia for all of those years.... weird.

Yes, of course.... we can all see for ourselves just how conscientious Barry is...

Not at all like those other non-conscientious people standing around him.

If the president refused to respond to whatever they are saluting, I suspect that would make news. Obama himself would be aware he was making a statement, and the rightwing ditto machine would be all over it. Whatever your pictures show, it is not disrespect, and I suspect you don't even know what's going on there.

Of course I know what is going on there.... everybody except Barry is saluting while the National Anthem is played. (just a suggestion.... get your eyes check, it seems you are blind.)

Because Saluting or putting your hand over your heart aren't signs of respect in this country. They're just doing it to do it? and Obama was just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Right.

If they hadn't attacked us, Hiroshima and Nagasaki would never have gotten bombed. They brought that upon themselves. Personally, I'm glad didn't have to land a million American troops on mainland Japan to fight a war that would have lasted another 10 years.

I agree with you to a point. The fact of the matter was that Japan was running out of fuel, literally. They wouldn't have had any gasoline to fuel any vehicles. They also would have run short of food. The same thing was happening in Germany. The main reason for the Eastern Front was to secure petroleum resources for the Third Reich.

No, you only see what is in the photograph, and you don't even know if it's been Photoshopped. Don't you think that if the president of the United States stood with his hands over his crotch during the pledge of allegiance, you would have heard about it by now?

I think that's on his list of 'things not to talk about regarding me'. Like his wife, his kids, his past, and his connections.

I can tell it's a shoop from the pixels and having seen quite a few shoops in my time.

If that really happened, you don't think it would be all over Fox?

You don't understand the Japanese culture.

Are you serious?? This has nothing to do with Japan - do you see them bowing at the waist? He also bowed at the waist to the Saudi king, who did not reciprocate either.

Open your eyes, man and the others too.

It's friggin' weird and everyone knows it.:bringit:bringit

Do you watch Faux News?? Probably not...They how do you know they didn't cover it?

Amazing what you'll find in 2 seconds on the damn internet.

Ah, but in Barry's defense there is this. Take it with a grain of salt as I haven't researched the credibility of the site.

Oh and this one appears to be the National Anthem. Everyone knows you put your hand over your heart for the National Anthem. (or you salute if you so desire) This clip is from ABC though, does that make a difference?

No, it's only you who didn't get the word, and you look pretty stupid right now. The American President doesn't need to swing his dick when he meets a foreign leader. He shows respect, and that makes them look smaller. I wouldn't expect you to understand.

What he's saying is that his "showing of respect" looks like he either 1) doesn't understand the cultures or customs he is entering in to or 2) is a kiss ass or trying to seem...I dunno...almost as if he's for his nation...

Someone should probably whisper to him that it will all be over in a couple of minutes and to put his hand on his heart so as to reduce the problems for his administration.

Tell that to the men who are still alive tha survived the Bataan Death March. They live with those memories everyday.

Another winger non-issue. Kind of getting predictable. :nails

The only ones defending Obama on this would never dream of criticizing him for anything, and will defend every action no matter how despicable.

See, I can be a partisan hack too.

Like me....
Who called his stimulus a failed act?
Who bashed him on the same reckless spending as Bush?
Who calls him repetitively a Bush Clone?

Does Obama deserve criticism? You betcha. Is this one of the things worth talking about? No.

If you think that what Obama did was unacceptable, then you should have no problem voting that Reagan's bowing to the Queen of England was unacceptable.

Interesting how the "Bash Obama on the Pettiest of things" crowed has 100% entirely refused to vote.

If it was really about the bowing, then people like Mr.V would be upset at past presidents including two Republican bowing to foreign heads of state. But clearly, it's not about the bowing. It's just a pathetic attempt to mask hate. We get you don't like Obama. Just act like an adult and find something not exceptionally petty to rant about.

Just more fake outrage from the right over nothing.
The person who posted this thread has to be at least 95 years old. I didn't know people cared about stuff like this since the Victorian age.

OK, I understand a president bowing to someone in a country where it's like a handshake. But I cannot excuse the VP for bowing to Jon Stewart. In New York! Hello! It's not like bowing is a normal custom in New York. Nor is Jon Stewart Japanese. Totally unacceptable. The VP is showing his inferiority to a comedy TV show host! This is inconceivable!

Thank you for the explanation.....THE NATIONAL ANTHEM.
As we all know, from standing for the Star Spangled Banner during ball games, no one but the military salutes the national anthem. It is not customary. We take our hats off and stand in respect, we do not put our hands over our heart. Excuse me for not noticing this sooner.
Modern custom does not require a hand over the heart, said Anne Garside, director of communication for the Maryland Historical Society, home of the original manuscript of The Star-Spangled Banner.

"I think the bottom line is that you show respect with your demeanor," she said. "Whether you put your hand over your heart, hold your hat at shoulder level or waist level, is really in this day and age irrelevant."

He should have pissed on Hirohito's casket, instead.

The problem I have with PBO bowing to the Japanese emporer, is that the emporer should have gotten on his knees and begged forgiveness for the war crmes Japanese soldiers committed against American during WW2.

To date, no member of the Japanese Emperial Army, nor the Emperial Navy has admitted any wrong doing, during WW2.

The members of the Army and Navy weren't doing wrong, they were following orders.
