Incredible: Senate Democrats Vote Unanimously To Destroy American Farmers, America’s Food Supply, And Our National Security!

Thanks to Barack Obama, unemployment in parts of the Valley is at 41 percent. Hard working American Farmers, Patriots, who have spent a lifetime growing our food, are now standing in lines for six and eight hours at a time to get canned goods from China just to survive!

This is a crime against humanity.

If you don’t know the story, here’s the deal. The Obama regime is using the excuse of a fish, a two inch bait fish, the Delta Smelt, which they claim is an “endangered species” to shut down all of the water to the San Joaquin Valley. They have created a modern day dust bowl out of some of the most beautiful farm land on earth. Some 400,000 acres have been destroyed with one million total acres in jeopardy.

Incredible: Senate Democrats Vote Unanimously To Destroy American Farmers, America?s Food Supply, And Our National Security! A Time For Choosing

The democrats have created food lines in this country and they voted for a mino over American farmers in the heart of Americas bread basket this would be funny if it wasn't so god damn sick. This is akin to what Stalin did to the Ukrainians and the Kulaks. It's time for a mother ****ing revolution watch your ****ing backs.

Re: Senate Democrats Vote Unanimously To Destroy American Farmers, America’s Foodsupp

My parents went driving down this area the other day and just saw everything dying down there. It's a shame. However, I heard that the reason was California's water supply and not some fish.

It's the fish.

The Democrats stand on this issue, demonstrates why we should never allow them in power again.

Wow, ridiculously partisan source and article. Half the article is just comparing the current administration to Communism and Marxism. There may be a little true content, but it's so ridiculously drowned in partisan hackery that one can't even concentrate on the what the article is supposed to be about.

Thank you, that video was actually much more respectful than that article and more articulate. While I don't like Hannity, it did at least give a little time to the NRDC to give their side. Without researching more, I can't say which would cause more damage to California, though I do feel for the people in this region and wish them luck.

That having been said, this is not unlike things that have been done across party lines. It's foolish to say that Democrats should never be allowed in power because of this, when republicans (and democrats) screw up all the time too.

for environmental reasons (smelt fish), the feds have restricted the water supply to the greatest growing region on earth, stretching from bakersfield to redding, 150 miles north of sacto

unemployment in the region is in some places approaching 40%

many of the most victimized are hispanics

difi voted this week against a measure introduced by jim demint to turn the water back on

What's the benefit of restricting water use to save these fish?

Re: Senate Democrats Vote Unanimously To Destroy American Farmers, America’s Foodsupp

Nevermind the rediculously biased source.

Nevermind that this is the third consecutive year of drought there.

Nevermind the restrictions were put in place in 2007.

Nevermind this was before Obama was in office

Nevermind that it was by court order, and not legislated by the current congressional scapegoats, nor Obama.

On August 31, 2007, California Federal Judge Oliver Wanger of Federal District Court protected the rare declining fish delta smelt by severely curtailing human use water deliveries at San Joaquin-Sacramento River delta from December to June.[2] These are the pumps at the Banks Pumping Plant that send water to Central and Southern California for agricultural and residential use.

[ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_smelt]Delta smelt - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame]

nevermind a few salient tidbits from the unemployment data:

• For Mendota, the town portrayed as the worst and where the Governor has visited twice to rail against the Endangered Species Act and his claim of regulation caused unemployment, it shows 38.8% unemployment for May 2009.

• For Mendota, the 9 year previous average is 28.1%. Mendota has led Fresno County in unemployment for the past 10 years.

• Six of the seven counties with greater unemployment than Fresno are not heavily affected by the Central Valley Project water cutbacks - and many are able to compensate via groundwater and use cutbacks.

nevermind that Lester Snow - appointed as director of the California Department of Water Resources by Arnie back in 2004 - testified before congress:

essentially saying if there was no court order to protect fish, there would only be a 5% increase in CVP water to the San Joaquin Valley.

http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2009/06/24/18603781.php

nevermind that

the Bureau of Reclamation is preparing now to ship 40,000 acre-feet of Central Valley Project water to Southern California – swimming pools and golf courses

nevermind this is but one of multiple sources of water that the valley relies on

nevermind that is but a tidbit of information out there on the subject, and instead of taking what is spoon-fed to you at face value (especially when as clearly biased as that) that if something is troubling you should dig a bit more into the story.

nevermind that this issue goes way beyond one little fishy.

nevermind any of that- we need a scapegoat - its all congress and Obamas fault.. all three consecutive years of drought.

nevermind any of that.. the solution if we want to go the idiocracy route is Brawndo!! its got electrolytes!!!

What's the benefit of restricting water use to save these fish?
Water Shortage Wilts Calif.'s San Joaquin Valley | Newsweek National News | Newsweek.com

But Barry Nelson, the Natural Resources Defense Council advocate behind the fish lawsuits, says the fish vs. people argument is nonsense. Even after three years of drought, the Central Valley Project (CVP) is still making half of its water deliveries to farms in the valley. Westlands just isn't getting that water. "There's a myth in the valley about the delta smelt, and it's really a tragedy," he says. "I don't mean for a moment to suggest that those small communities on the west side aren't seeing impacts; they are. They're seeing the impact of drought, and those impacts are real and they're hard." Nelson contends that the fish aren't the problem; it's the way the system is set up. Just adjacent to Westlands, he says, four other contractors are getting a full 100 percent of their water allocation this year, despite the drought. And while Westlands has adopted some of the most water-efficient irrigation methods in the business, other farmers in the valley with senior water rights are under no pressure to conserve. The result is a patchwork valley, where a Westlands farmer like Mark Borba is forced to fallow land while his neighbor has excess water that he can sell at a hefty profit. Buying that excess and pumping water from underground is sustainable to a point, says Borba. But the expenses—and the poor quality of the underground water—would drive the business into the ground in the long term.

Very good article, actually shows both sides of the story quite well and show that there is more than is shown in the news report and the OP. It shows that there is and has been quite a struggle in resource management between northern and southern California, and is being exacerbated by a three year long drought. On top of that, shows that it's not "all about the fish" as the OP and video state. It's a bad situation, but it's not as simple as "let's cut off the farmers to save the fish" In fact, it's more about keeping an ecosystem in place that is trying to balance both agriculture and marine life (mainly salmon).

Again, this is a really tricky situation as it would involve and effect a lot of people on both sides of the issue, but I don't think it's as heartless as it is being made to seem.

You are welcome. I try and post the facts, no matter who the messenger is.

As for my comment about democrats not being allowed to come to power again, I base that on much, much, more than this issue. This issue simply demonstrates one of the biggest problems I have with the democrats and the liberal agenda.

They all too often will support or implement "feel good", "compassionate" or "we care about the (fill in the blank)", type of policies that cater to small interest groups, that cause financial hardship for the American people. This issue is a prime example of this. An agenda that puts a piece of bait ahead of thousands of farmers and their families (not to mention the cost to everyone at the market), is just plain wrong. The American people should never be made to suffer over something like this.

The Democrats voted against turning the water back on in America's breadbasket

America's breadbasket is not California. Do you need a geography lesson?

which is experiencing a dust bowl, because of the Delta Smelt.

Here's a real simple Government lesson. There's the legislative branch, the executive branch and the judicial branch.

Can you name which branch issues "court orders" for 500 points?

Those are the facts and that was the first article I found which is actually discussing the issue. Gee, I wonder why that is?

Some world you live in if you consider those "facts."

That is what Hannity and your article say, yes...but do me a favor and read in entirety the article that I posted, from a credible news source. I have no problem if, after you have read it, hold a different opinion than me, but try to get a grasp on the fact that the situation isn't as simple as man vs fish. It's about allocation of resources and is far more complicated than an endangered fish.

Re: Senate Democrats Vote Unanimously To Destroy American Farmers, America’s Foodsupp

Anyone else see the lack of wisdom of growing populations in exceptionally arid regions?

I'd still like to see how this is the Obama/Senate democrat's fault when the court issued the order.

Or maybe Ferris doesn't understand the branches of government? Wouldn't be the first person to screw that up.

Re: Senate Democrats Vote Unanimously To Destroy American Farmers, America’s Foodsupp

America's breadbasket is not California. Do you need a geography lesson?

The Central Valley is America's bread basket.

Agriculture

The Central Valley is one of the world's most productive agricultural regions. On less than 1 percent of the total farmland in the United States, the Central Valley produces 8 percent of the nation’s agricultural output by value: 17 billion USD in 2002. Its agricultural productivity relies on irrigation from both surface water diversions and groundwater pumping from wells. About one-sixth of the irrigated land in the U.S. is in the Central Valley.[15]

Virtually all non-tropical crops are grown in the Central Valley, which is the primary source for a number of food products throughout the United States, including tomatoes, almonds,[16][17] grapes, cotton, apricots, and asparagus.

Four of the top five counties in agricultural sales in the U.S. are in the Central Valley (2002 Data). They are Fresno County (#1 with $2.759 billion in sales), Tulare County (#2 with $2.338 billion), Kern County (#4 with $2.058), and Merced County (#5 with $2.058 billion).[1] 2002 Data Sets

Early farming was concentrated close to the Sacramento-San Joaquin Delta, where the water table was high year round and water transport more readily available, but subsequent irrigation projects have brought many more parts of the valley into productive use. For example, the Central Valley Project was formed in 1935 to redistribute and store water for agricultural and municipal purposes with dams and canals. The even larger California State Water Project was formed in the 1950s and construction continued throughout the following decade.

Here's a real simple Government lesson. There's the legislative branch, the executive branch and the judicial branch.

Can you name which branch issues "court orders" for 500 points?

Can you name the branch which voted against the legislation to turn the water back on?

Some world you live in if you consider those "facts."

The water was turned off because of the delta smelt. The democrats voted against the legislation to turn the water back on. Which of those two statements are false?

And nevermind that this is a liberal/democratic policy, as demonstrated by who sides with the bait fish, and who side with the 1000's of people suffering as a result of this policy.

Re: Senate Democrats Vote Unanimously To Destroy American Farmers, America’s Foodsupp

I can't just be about the fish, partially because California does not have enough water for it to be just about the fish. There are all sorts of regulations over the amounts and quantities you can use.

Who voted unanimously not to turn the water on?

Well at this point what mention of the congressional hearings on this issue I have found, the guy in charge of the water supply in Ca. testified that the restriction only resulted in a 5% decrease in water to the valley.. will this magically fix the drought condition?

I am fairly sure there were many other salient tidbits of info they had as well.

I am also sure they did not vote to

create.. food lines in this country...akin to what Stalin did to the Ukrainians and the Kulaks

It doesn't matter. That the vegetation has to be maintained artificially is pretty indicative of its not being economically viable, whatever its capability for output.

lol um since when did any farmlands rely on the rain to produce crops? It's called irrigation.
