Communisum in our Schools.

this has been reported by Neal Boortz for years. I started listening to him in 2003 and every september he highlights schools that pull this crap. It happens in alot of places. It may not be 'the standard' or commonplace, yet, but in these dark economic times I see it spreading.

And how does one determine who is in need, and who is too lazy to go to Target, SUC?

Than again you have the added wrinkle of Teachers having to buy supplies for their underfunded classes

this is where reform is needed. And it is more important than HC. Write off the existing adults and spend the money on the Countries Future to make them better prepared to lead the country and the world for many decades to come
really? what schools? my kids' school always requested tissues, pencils, and a few other items for the classroom, not for individual students.

That's a far cry from your story talking about forced confiscation and the parents having no choice. Asking parents to chip in voluntarily for less fortunate kids is nowhere near what your article stated.

Whatever actually occurred in these schools, this nonsense about "communisum" (presumably communism) was a poor terminology choice and one of many abuses of political economy frequently committed by Internet rightists.

Re: Communism in our Schools.

I've NO use for any "variant" of Socialized Theft. Nor, any "Teacher" Stealing from Children.:(

To a very limited extent, I agree.
How do the children feel about this ?
They are the ones most affected
How effective is the teaching ?
And, after, the class, were the items returned ?

Its possible that after man is completely civilized - thousands of years from now - if then, communism will be man's choice..

First off, the story probably is nothing more than a rumor. However, assuming it is true, the problem is that speaking on behalf of middle class parents across this nation, we are tapped out.

I pay property taxes on our home every year for our kids school. However, we also paid 280 dollars a month for our kids to have all day kindergarten instead of a half a day kindergarten. If you are poor, and thus qualified for free or reduced lunches, that was free.

We pay 95 dollars a kid to register them every year. If you are poor, and thus qualify for free or reduced lunches, that is free to you.

We pay hundreds a month for after school care. Its a reduced rate for poor kids that qualify for free or reduced lunches.

We send our kids every day with lunch money or a packed lunch, of course poor kids get their lunch for free.

This in what is literally one of the wealthiest counties in the nation. We are already heavily subsidizing people that have kids that they obviously can't afford in the first place. So I am drawing a line in the sand. We are not buying their school supplies. I am sorry, but if parents cannot afford their kids school supplies when they already get free registration, free all day kindergarten, reduced rates on after school care, and free lunches, then you know, tough, a condom would have been a hell of a lot cheaper than those school supplies.

I hate to be that way, but we are tapped out and I am kind of sick of hearing these same people who have their kids on free lunches and get all this other free stuff spew out all kinds of big ideas they have at every school board or pta meeting. There are lots of great ideas out there when you are spending other peoples money to implement them. Personally, I have a great idea myself, instead of giving the kids from third grade on a tablet PC to take tests with, how about we put that money toward all day kindergarten where middle class families are not stuck shelling out $280 a month on top of their taxes. Esentially an expensive but good quality baby-sitting service - but must it be so costly??? Twenty days times 4 hours....so its not so expensive ??

Sorry for the rant, but as you can see, I am sick of it.

So you wish for the cycle of poverty to continue for more generations ?
But I agree that there must be better more fair ways of doing these things.
Also, try the most difficult thing - place your self in the shoes of the poor kid..

I'm a communist, and I've always harbored a fair share of antipathy toward the perspective that communism requires a "perfected man" to function because that relies on assumptions of communism's utopianism, themselves reliant on the misapprehension that there is no role in communism for remuneration based on individual labor contributions. It's high time that we rectified this inaccuracy and noted that communism is in fact a meritocratic economic system in that it considers individual needs and individual labor contributions, while capitalism considers individual economic contribution based on a combination of labor and capital, which permits relative apathy by upper classes.

Comrade Ag. Member of the prolateriat.

Well it explains the fondness for rigid constructs.

I would agree with you (even though you are a communist) though that what many people in the U.S. have a tendency to call anything communism as a buzz word reference for any activity that involves government regulation.

I have been told we Canadians are commies because we all agree on gun control and medicare regardless of our political affiliation.

I personally am not a communist. I find communism a defective concept.

I think it was created by middle class people in contemplation of a middle class society and its originators never imagined it would be used as a pretense to create states like the Soviety Union or China.

The closest I have lived in a communal society was on a kibbutz in Israel. However for that communal system to continue it could not become too large and always be able to replace those leaving with an equal amount coming.

It did work to a limited degree. I think in today's world all it does is enable the state to become a rigid, totalitarian and dictatorial regime and simply replaces the elite class with communist polibrito members not to mention it promotes poor fashion sense, and the use of police as a political tool to control dissension.

Thanks, I pass. You however should feel free to move to China or North Korea. I would suggest Venezuela but you probably will find Baby Hugo is anything but communist.

Communism In Our Schools | NewsBusters.org

Tonight I had chance to listen to Bruce DuMont's radio show and heard the story of how teachers in one school confiscate all the children's school supplies (and in this case even lunch boxes), put them in a pile, and everyone takes turns coming up and taking what they want, whether the parents like it or not. A guest on the show, Erika Brees, Heartland Regional Director for College Democrats of America, defended this action saying that "it's an important lesson that people learn to do with less so others can have what they need too, and if the parents aren't willing to teach that, I think it's good that the school does." [I paraphrase]

This is nothing more than an introduction to communism. I was shocked. I thought there's no way that this redistribution of personal property really goes on in American school rooms. After a few searches and several calls to teacher friends, I've found this to be more common than I ever would have thought, and of course there is not one media story on the subject to be found.

It's one thing to buy extra supplies so the classroom has the tools it needs to conduct class. It's quite another to steal property from one person... and give it to another.
Still no evidence that this has actually happened. Shocking, I know ...

I noticed the Site has been either blocked, or removed. With NO Reason given.

Should I start screaming about a "Vast Left-Wing Conspiracy" obviously has it's hands in this? Like Liberals do? Or,,, Wait until I learned what happened.

I'm going to wait.:2wave:

Lol your powers of deduction are lacking. Maybe the site didn't feel it was a credible story and so they took it down? Why don't you write them a letter?

communist thro them in the sewers, sorry Admin, thats what i say, free Enterprise is the name of the game, thats how we will play, and always will.

thanks to America.

So, who else agrees that the "communism" title was pretty ****ing retarded, even if it had been spelled right? :)
If it was spelled correctly it wouldn't have been nearly as funny.

So, it's complete BS, but something not appreciably different goes on at your wife's school?

Dude, all the supplies are put into a pile, yes. The parents know it ahead of time. But their lunches? No..... God you people just want something to complain about don't you? The teacher doesn't say "go up to the pile and grab what you want." DUMB!

Can you name a single industrialized nation where all schools are privatized? Japan maybe? No? What about Sweden? No? Oh you can't? Because this 'modern society' you speak of isn't realistic? Thanks for playing.
Always falling back on what other people do. Let me clue you in, those OTHER industrialized nations didn't embrace democratic principles of government until we kicked their asses and showed them how. So we're not followers, we are leaders and do what we think is right. So stop bringing in Japan with their asian culture or any other socialist thinkers from Europe to try and browbeat us into being like THEM. Do you even have children?

I would feel better about that if the U.S. didn't score consistently lower than other nations on the performance of our education system. Is this one of those leading by providing a bad example sort of things?
