HR 3200 just keeps getting better and better. Health care threads aren't really about health care, anymore. They're more about how many Dems aren't going to see the halls of Congress, ever again.

Section 431(a) of the bill says that the IRS must divulge taxpayer identity information, including the filing status, the modified adjusted gross income, the number of dependents, and "other information as is prescribed by" regulation. That information will be provided to the new Health Choices Commissioner and state health programs and used to determine who qualifies for "affordability credits."

Why would they be about that? Many Democrats don't support the health care bill, which is why the bill cannot pass in the current Democrat controlled Congress.

But, there are Dems that do support it. Those are the ones I'm referring to.

What a pointless thread.

A non-story if there ever was one.

No, I will post.

I will post about how meaningless this story is.

Let me explain to you how that will work. The information will come in standardized from the tax system, read by a scanner and then all of the data will be assigned either numbers or letters and then automatically compared to a check list by a computer. Those who meet certain requirements will automatically be sorted into acceptance with the rest rejected. The only time a federal employee will see the information is when they check the approved list and even then they won't actually see the raw data, merely numbers or letters that have been assigned to represent criteria.

The notion that federal employees will be checking each person's information is insane. You'd need thousands to do that. Furthermore, it's not that hard to get anyone's tax return anyways or at least figure out their basic information from peeking into their public facts.

And this way, it will reduce the number of people who can afford but are abusing the system. If we're going to get this system, let's at least reduce the fraud and abuse in it.

And, you can provide docs to support everything you just said, yes?

Was this the same argument you made FOR the NSA monitoring of phone calls?

Not at all. And it wouldn't work anyways. Why would any decent terrorist talk in plain language over an easily traceable phone? That's stupid. Besides, it's far easier to simple register new e-mails, write a draft, save it and have your friend log in and read the draft and communicate that way and do it via internet cafe or free wi-fi. The ID thieves who tried this got caught because they were using their static IPs and were already being monitored. Nothing gets sent over traceable lines and it's hidden in the millions of accounts out there. And if you're super paranoid, you just register with the e-mail accounts that disappear within 30 minutes and prearrange the times to write and read the drafts. If you expect to win a war against terrorism, you'll never win if you can't think like them.

In other words: "no I can't; just as I couldn't provide any rational proof that Americans were being spied on and losing their Constitutional rights under Bush."

Aside from the fact there were laws on the books at the time barring non-warranted backed surveillance of US to US calls...which happened.

Ashcroft did not agree the program was Constitutional. Seriously. ASHCROFT.

"affordability credits"? Is that what I can afford, or what the government can afford for my treatment?

No, I will post.

You mean you will troll the thread rather than actually speak to the topic? Got it.

As to the OP, I don't see what difference it makes...one section of the government versus another having the same information. The education departments already get tax info to determine grant eligibility, HUD gets it for housing info, etc.

It's nothing new. Or am I missing something here?
