The whole time that the unions were acting like Brownshirts, strong arming people at the townhall meetings, I was thinking to myself, I said, "Self, what's their motivation for this". And, now we know.

WASHINGTON -- Antilabor forces say it's welfare for the UAW and Democrats' union allies. Labor supporters say it falls short of what's needed as tens of thousands of union members are pushed into early retirement as employers cut back health care coverage.

They're both talking about a $10-billion provision tucked deep inside thousands of pages of health care overhaul bills that could help the UAW's retiree health-care plan and other union-backed plans.

good.....those employees were screwed.

Good for American workers!

No, it's good for the union workers, but dicks everyone else. believe it, or not, but the government is supposed to take care of the whole country.

If this were a $10 billion giveaway to American employees of Exxon, Halliburton, Fox News, and UnitedHealth, would you feel the same way?

Didn't we have that earlier this year?

If I'd said Goldman/Citi/JP Morgan, you might have had a point (although the car companies got generic bailouts as well). I'm unaware of any bailout targeted at any of those four companies.

You kinda caught what I meant by it, though even in that case, it would be a pretty significant exaggeration.

How is it that whenever a union or an industry is given taxpayer money it is declared by some to be good for 'American workers'?

As if the forfeiture of money from a man or woman working at CVS to a man or woman who used to work for GM benefits both people.

Absurd.
